Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 35

It’s Friday afternoon and time to reassess our Sky teams once more. With only five Gameweeks to go, the pressure is on at the top of our mini-leagues – it’s a good idea, then, to take a look at our stats including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends. As always, we also scan ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 35.

Gameweek 34 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man City vs SouthamptonDavid Silva
Aston Villa vs FulhamLewis Holtby
Cardiff vs Crystal PalaceJason Puncheon
Hull vs SwanseaCurtis Davies
Newcastle vs Man UnitedJuan Mata
Norwich vs West BromYoussouf Mulumbu
Chelsea vs StokeWillian
Everton vs ArsenalSteven Naismith
West Ham vs LiverpoolSteven Gerrard
Tottenham vs SunderlandChristian Eriksen

Midfielders dominate again this week, with only Steven Naismith, who is listed as a forward, and Hull defender Curtis Davies breaking the trend. A number of differential options are making a claim for our XI and could be useful for the run in if you’re chasing a mini-league rival. David Silva (5%), Juan Mata (7.4%), Willian (0.5%) and Christian Eriksen’s 2.6% ownership look the pick of the bunch and fit the mould for players most likely to receive MoTM – playmaking midfielders.

Gameweek 34 Bonus Points

Eight goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week with Adrian and Vito Mannone the top performers with six apiece. Mannone continues to rake in the bonus and is top of the pile with 28 additional points.

In defence, only six players gathered bonus, three for tackles and three for passes completed – full-back Cesar Azpilicueta came closest to achieving both, missing out by 13 completed passes. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 26 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – three for tackling and ten for passes. Stoke’s central midfielder Glenn Whelan was the closet to achieving both, missing out by just one completed pass. Cheik Tiote, Morgan Schneiderlin and Yaya Toure are the games top bonus earners with 40 extra points.

One forward managed bonus this week, as Emmanuel Adebayor, who featured in a slightly withdrawn role, racked up 62 completed passes to go with his two-goal haul, vindicating our choice for captain last week.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RodriguezSouthampton7.98.29%
HazardChelsea8.85.35%
ToureMan City8.64.71%
RooneyMan United9.63.97%
NegredoMan City8.63.10%

A massive shake up considering the amount of active players that still have transfers remaining, with a host of big hitting options finding themselves shipped out. Jay Rodriguez is set to miss the rest of the season. Eden Hazard looks likely to miss a couple of games and, whilst Wayne Rooney has a blank Gameweek, Yaya Toure has recovered from a minor knock. Toure’s team-mate Alvaro Negredo continues to be shifted after a lack of first team opportunities.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AdebayorTottenham7.66.76%
LukakuEverton8.66.10%
GerrardLiverpool8.15.82%
SturridgeLiverpool9.24.90%
FlanaganLiverpool4.24.09%

Some tactical captain swaps seem to have shaped the market trends with Emmanuel Adebayor and Romelu Lukaku drafted in – probably due to these two being the most obvious routes to maximizing armband options over last/this week. As usual, Liverpool assets make up the rest of the top five due to their pre-season pricing and surprise title-challenge, with Jon Flanagan looking great value at just 4.2m.

Gameweek 35 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 35 there is a multitude of options due to the additional fixtures.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (West Brom Away) → Sergio Aguero (Liverpool Away) → Sergio Aguero (Sunderland at Home)

For Saturday April 12’s fixtures there are a few options to consider, with Romelu Lukaku and Adam Lallana making strong claims also as they play Sunderland and Cardiff respectively. However, with Emmanuel Adebayor coming up trumps last week, we’re sticking by our man as he travels to The Hawthorns.

For Sunday 13, a switch to a Man City player looks the best option as although they travel to Anfield for a tough game against Liverpool, they then play again on Wednesday 16 at home to Sunderland – a potential massacre.

Interestingly if you transfer out your Saturday captain for a Man City player you will have ‘banked’ your captain change and can use it after the Gameweek has finished in order to prepare for Gameweek 36.

I would have liked Baines but if I went for him it meant I would have 3 players I had to transfer out next week as I don't want any Everton players next week.

In the end I went for Barkley as my 3rd choice Everton and will keep him as my 5th mid until end of season.

So with Hazard being injured and any replacement being a lot cheaper now is my oportunity to bring in Baines for the first time and double up with Coleman.

    Is it worth it?

He doesnt seem to have a threat outside of set pieces and is pricy.

Or should i go for Zabaleta?

If you don't have 3 City then this is priority as they have 2 DGW. Just make sure you pick the 3 you want to keep for the remainder of the season.

Almost identical to my team. I personally feel like Aguero is a gamble in a DGW this early especially as a replacement for the proven Sturridge. I'm struggling with Boruc myself since there's no real answer on his status (and my backup is injured!)

Of those two Boruc would be safer.

I think we all have to sit back and realize that in these big game matches where points are so important, that managers tend to play on the conservative side most of the time. The City Vs. Liverpool could very well and most likely end in a low scoring 1-0, 1-1 game. We shouldn't put all our eggs in the City basket.

That said, I too have 3 city and 3 liverpool players for gw34.

-just a thought as we know how these big games go most of the time.

        Dzeko, Yaya, Zabaleta

I still have one free transfer and 5.0 in the bank along with Hazard on my team. Debating on moving Hazard for Eriksen ... Or Dzeko to Aguero. Thing is, I moved Rooney at beginning of this week to Dzeko, so I wouldn't lose coin. So, I likely should just move Hazard as I like Eriksen and Spurs fixtures rest of season. I'm in 1st place by 90 pts so it would be dumb to take any hits.

Zabaleta > Dann, Hazard > Silva, Gerrard > Nasri for -4 gives:

    Speroni

    Dann Cahill Coleman

    Silva Nasri Barkley Yaya

    Lukaku Sturridge Suárez

Leaves 3.9 in bank enough for later moves to Agüero & Rooney if they show any form.

40 odd points behind to, it's deff differential time. Take the gambles. Personally transferring out dzeko to augerro as he has dzeko and getting abe rather than lukaku for same reasons.

Kompany and Sturridge -> Stone and Aguero with 2 FTs?

If I do this, do I keep Hazard or take a -4 for Lallana?

It seems that Eriksen will find his way into my team for the 3rd time this season.
The first 2 times ended up with tears, hope this will be different.

How does this look for a -4
Sturridge, Hazard & Dummett --> Aguero, Eriksen & Baines

I only like the last two. Aguero for WBA if his leg doesn't fall off again.

    Hi lads,

I am on bachelor tonight and probably will be silver again in Sunday j). I won.t read tonight or tomorrow. I need all the help I can have from u. The decision is:

A: Hazard to Nasri and play Sturridge
B: hazard to Silva and play Studge
C: Studge to Kun and play Eriksen.

It is for free. My City players are Yoyo and Demi. Scouting for the third one. I think Sturridge will have good game this week against his native club.

If possible reasons. Thanks a lot

You will need Aguero later so C better than taking a hit to remove a City player for Aguero later

Situation: I am 24 points or so behind in my ML.

    Do I risk a Aguero (c)

    or

    Lukaku(c)?

At 24 points I wouldn't be top worried, hel more than likely capt lukaku with the lead. So play it safe with same and gain ur points elsewer

The Aguero factor has me swaying towards B - thoughts?

    A) Hazard -> Lallana

    B) Hazard, Gerrard & Dzeko -> Lallana, Eriksen & Aguero (8 points)

    MANNONE
    BAINES, DISTIN, Terry
    YAYA, SILVA, Hazard, Gerrard
    LUKAKU, DZEKO, Suarez

    Gazzaniga, Williamson, Chester, Gnabry
