Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 35

It’s Friday afternoon and time to reassess our Sky teams once more. With only five Gameweeks to go, the pressure is on at the top of our mini-leagues – it’s a good idea, then, to take a look at our stats including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends. As always, we also scan ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 35.

Gameweek 34 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man City vs SouthamptonDavid Silva
Aston Villa vs FulhamLewis Holtby
Cardiff vs Crystal PalaceJason Puncheon
Hull vs SwanseaCurtis Davies
Newcastle vs Man UnitedJuan Mata
Norwich vs West BromYoussouf Mulumbu
Chelsea vs StokeWillian
Everton vs ArsenalSteven Naismith
West Ham vs LiverpoolSteven Gerrard
Tottenham vs SunderlandChristian Eriksen

Midfielders dominate again this week, with only Steven Naismith, who is listed as a forward, and Hull defender Curtis Davies breaking the trend. A number of differential options are making a claim for our XI and could be useful for the run in if you’re chasing a mini-league rival. David Silva (5%), Juan Mata (7.4%), Willian (0.5%) and Christian Eriksen’s 2.6% ownership look the pick of the bunch and fit the mould for players most likely to receive MoTM – playmaking midfielders.

Gameweek 34 Bonus Points

Eight goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week with Adrian and Vito Mannone the top performers with six apiece. Mannone continues to rake in the bonus and is top of the pile with 28 additional points.

In defence, only six players gathered bonus, three for tackles and three for passes completed – full-back Cesar Azpilicueta came closest to achieving both, missing out by 13 completed passes. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 26 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – three for tackling and ten for passes. Stoke’s central midfielder Glenn Whelan was the closet to achieving both, missing out by just one completed pass. Cheik Tiote, Morgan Schneiderlin and Yaya Toure are the games top bonus earners with 40 extra points.

One forward managed bonus this week, as Emmanuel Adebayor, who featured in a slightly withdrawn role, racked up 62 completed passes to go with his two-goal haul, vindicating our choice for captain last week.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RodriguezSouthampton7.98.29%
HazardChelsea8.85.35%
ToureMan City8.64.71%
RooneyMan United9.63.97%
NegredoMan City8.63.10%

A massive shake up considering the amount of active players that still have transfers remaining, with a host of big hitting options finding themselves shipped out. Jay Rodriguez is set to miss the rest of the season. Eden Hazard looks likely to miss a couple of games and, whilst Wayne Rooney has a blank Gameweek, Yaya Toure has recovered from a minor knock. Toure’s team-mate Alvaro Negredo continues to be shifted after a lack of first team opportunities.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AdebayorTottenham7.66.76%
LukakuEverton8.66.10%
GerrardLiverpool8.15.82%
SturridgeLiverpool9.24.90%
FlanaganLiverpool4.24.09%

Some tactical captain swaps seem to have shaped the market trends with Emmanuel Adebayor and Romelu Lukaku drafted in – probably due to these two being the most obvious routes to maximizing armband options over last/this week. As usual, Liverpool assets make up the rest of the top five due to their pre-season pricing and surprise title-challenge, with Jon Flanagan looking great value at just 4.2m.

Gameweek 35 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 35 there is a multitude of options due to the additional fixtures.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (West Brom Away) → Sergio Aguero (Liverpool Away) → Sergio Aguero (Sunderland at Home)

For Saturday April 12’s fixtures there are a few options to consider, with Romelu Lukaku and Adam Lallana making strong claims also as they play Sunderland and Cardiff respectively. However, with Emmanuel Adebayor coming up trumps last week, we’re sticking by our man as he travels to The Hawthorns.

For Sunday 13, a switch to a Man City player looks the best option as although they travel to Anfield for a tough game against Liverpool, they then play again on Wednesday 16 at home to Sunderland – a potential massacre.

Interestingly if you transfer out your Saturday captain for a Man City player you will have ‘banked’ your captain change and can use it after the Gameweek has finished in order to prepare for Gameweek 36.

    So, what are the DGW plans now that Altidore picked a knock and is unavailable for the first clash. Sure we ain't risking him for max one match. Naismith, anyone?

      I'd cross off Ramsey this week because of no certainty of a start.
      I'd cross off Puncheon because he has three "top 4" fixtures coming up.
      Mirallas could net you some DGW points, but has challenging fixtures. (Short term option)
      Lallana is proven, has "easier" fixtures but they're further off so you have time to plan. (Long term option)

        Puncheon is a 1-2 GW punt and Mirallas a 1 GW punt. Lallana is your option if you wanna stick someone in for the season. It's too early for Ramsey IMO

      Hi lads,

      I am on bachelor tonight and probably will be silver again in Sunday j). I won.t read tonight or tomorrow. I need all the help I can have from u. The decision is:

      A: Hazard to Nasri and play Sturridge
      B: hazard to Silva and play Studge
      C: Studge to Kun and play Eriksen.

      It is for free. My City players are Yoyo and Demi. Scouting for the third one. I think Sturridge will have good game this week against his native club.

      If possible reasons. Thanks a lot

    Evening folks, found some time again to access the Internet. Any views on this lot? * indicates players to be transferred out. I'm keen on Aguero, Eriksen and a DGW top club defender. By the way, what's with the sudden interest on Baines anyway? Saw peeps took out Coleman for Baines?! That's insane!

    Boruc - Adrian
    Coleman - Evra* - Azpilicueta - Ward - Chester
    Hazard - Yaya Toure - Gerrard - Snodgrass - Mutch
    Suarez - Sturridge* - Lukaku

      That's a really solid team! I'm assuming your ok with the Hazard risk? How about a MC defender? Could even pair with Hazard > Eriksen. I haven't poked around with Arsenal defenders, is Kos an option to replace Evra for you?

      Baines could make a decent punt, but I'm with you on why people choose him over Coleman.

    Need some help!! Players in CAPS are ones I need to get rid of/doubtful.

    Team is;

    Speroni,
    TERRY, KOSCIELNY, BRUCE, Williams, Chambers
    HAZARD, SNODGRASS, NOONE, Silva, Mirallas
    Suarez, Dzeko, Lambert

    Only want to take a -4....got 1FT & 4.5m to spend!

    Thinking of getting Toure in for Hazard & Baines for Bruce?

    Not sure if Baines is ncessary though as Terry/Kos will probably play....might go Eriksen for Noone instead!? Help please.

      You need at least 3 transfers mate, 4 if you don't want to take the chance on Koscielny not playing.

      Hazard --> Yaya
      Snodgrass --> Eriksen/Barkley
      Terry --> Coleman
      Williams --> Spurs defender

      I would keep Chambers as he will play and they have good fixture. Would also keep Bruce as they have DGW in GW37. I would not waste money getting rid of Noone.

    Liverpool bib theory team from yesterday's training photos:

    ------------------- Mignolet
    Johnson - Skrtel - Sakho - Flanagan
    ------------------- Gerrard
    ----- Henderson -------- Coutinho
    ------------------- Sterling
    ---------- Sturridge ----- Suarez

    Note: Agger trained, but is wearing an orange bib

    Remember, this is just for a bit of fun. It's is not based on any insider knowledge or personal preference; it is based solely on who was wearing a yellow bib in yesterday's photos.

    I feel that Aguero always causes me problems. If I get him, he gets injured. If I don't get him, he scores. I will not get him, so if I were you, give him the armband 😆

    Current team:

    Mannone

    Coleman - Azpi - Ward - Bardsley

    Yaya - Silva - Gerrard

    Suarez - Dzecko - Lukaku

    Subs. Gazz - Hazard - Delph - Chester

    How does Hazard / Bardsley ---> Lallana / Baines (-4) look?

    My worry is that it's a little short-term and clearly makes it a little harder/more points hits to get in Aguero later.

    I'm sure this a question many people will be facing this week:

    Is Sturridge --> Kun worth a -4?

    Thoughts?

      I think so. But then, I'm finding it hard to be objective after reading all of this Aguero hysteria. 😉

      Rather befitting name. I'd get him for -4.

    to get aguero would mean a -4

    Haz > Lallana,
    Sturridge > Aguero
    and Kolorov > 5.1m

    is it really worth it?

      Yes with Stones/Ward should easily repay the -4.

        he probably has too many City players if he keeps Kolarov

        I'm in the same boat

      Depends on how much a of a risk you want to take.

      Dzeko is the safe bet and Aguero is the risky one. I personally went for Aguero but it was not without a week of continuously playing it out in my head.

          He is the second most in form striker over the last 4 weeks with 8.8 points per game average.

          He is likely to get more game time over the next 2 matches as I can't see Aguero lasting full 90 against Liverpool and not sure he will be risked against Sunderland and likely to make sub appearance in that match.
