PlayON Player Picks – Mini Midweek Gameweek

PlayON, the weekly Fantasy Football game, is rolling out a mini-Gameweek over the next couple of days. This comprises of the three fixtures taking place over Tuesday and Wednesday, and with three of the top five all set to face favourable home matches, we scour the PlayON Price List for potential bargains:

There is a £500 GUARANTEED pot on offer for the mini-gameweek – you can enter your team on the multiplayer page here.

If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built, you can compete for cash. You can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 52% win rate up to this point. You can also create an open challenge against anyone else on the site – just click the amount you want to play for and the number of slots (number of people who can accept your challenge) on the one-on-one page .

For a more in-depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.

Goalkeeper – Wojciech Szczesny
The Arsenal number one sets you back just 7.1m for this evening’s home game against West Ham. Arsene Wenger’s side have conceded just 10 times in front of their own fans this term, and bearing in mind the Hammers have mustered a mere 14 goals on their travels, a home shut-out could be on the cards. Coming in at 9.4m, City’s Joe Hart is relatively budget friendly for a home showdown with a Sunderland side that has found the net only four times in their last eight league matches.

Defender – Per Mertesacker
Once again, the Arsenal defence looks superb value for their home encounter with Sam Allardyce’s side. Mertesacker was in the goals in last weekend’s FA Cup win over Wigan and will be looking for his third league strike of the season later this evening – he can be acquired for only 7.8m in the PlayON Player Price List. With doubts over the Man City left-back berth and Vincent Kompany looking less than 100% against Liverpool on Sunday, we opt for Pablo Zabaleta (9.9m) as the safest route into Manuel Pellegrini’s backline at home to Sunderland, whilst six-goal Seamus Coleman, at 10.0m, is the cheapest of Everton’s back-four to face Palace at Goodison.

Midfielder – David Silva
City’s playmaker is arguably turning in his most impressive displays of the season ahead of a home game against struggling Sunderland. The Black Cats have managed a single clean sheet in eight, and with Manuel Pellegrini’s side scoring nine times in their last two matches at the Etihad, it could be a long night for the visitors. With three goals in his last six, Silva – available for 10.3m – looks poised to wreak havoc tomorrow evening as City attempt to bounce back from their loss at Liverpool. Elsewhere, Aaron Ramsey costs just 7.0m for the Gunners’ clash with West Ham. The Welshman was reported to be a slight doubt by Arsene Wenger in yesterday morning’s press conference but has since been pictured in training and is expected to return for tonight’s crucial match as the Gunners look to get their bid for a fourth place finish back on track. Finally, Gareth Barry (9.4m) offers a reliable route into Everton’s midfield. Whilst other options may be more explosive, Barry’s consistency of starts and deep-lying role has earned him 500+ points in four of his last five appearances, with the PlayON Scoring Matrix suited to his style of play.

Forward – Sergio Aguero
The Argentine will be hoping for a starting role at home to Sunderland tomorrow after signalling his injury comeback against Liverpool with a second-half sub appearance off the bench. Due to his lengthy stint on the sidelines, Aguero remains very budget friendly and comes in at only 8.3m – having scored nine times in as many matches at the Etihad, he’ll be confident of breaching Gus Poyet’s porous backline as City search for a fifteenth win in front of their own supporters. Edin Dzeko remains in contention, though, and could even start alongside Aguero if City opt for two up front. Priced at 12.0m, the Bosnian has four goals in his last five and affords us a strong double-up option for our two-man frontlines. Everton’s Romelu Lukaku will be looking to atone for a weekend blank at Sunderland. The big Belgian – who is available for 12.2m – has scored in three of his last four home appearances and welcomes Palace to Goodison tomorrow evening.

I am probably in the minority here but I havent got Aguero yet nor do I especially want him. He last showed form four months ago and in the handful of games he has played in that time he hasnt looked great. Obviously lacking sharpness and match fitness. Would rather get him in after he shows some form.

Having said that who shall I replace Sturridge with? Already have Suarez and Lukaku. Nobody other than Aguero really stands out!

United striker would be good, but there are a lot of uncertainties.
Maybe Ade for his nice run of fixtures?

Hasn't looked great? Aguero has a better Points per game record than Suarez. He played 2 games when he came back from injury 4 months ago and scored 12 and 7 pts. Before that his points were 8,7,8, -4(missed pen), 18, 2, 18, 22, 7, 18

Very true, people tend to forget the cup matches he played. League cup final and cup exit to wigan wasnt it? Correct me if im wrong. Also Barcelona match, he did nothing and looked poor in all of them. What i am saying is get him in when he is fully fit, he could barely run at the weekend, very sluggish.

Do you think Boruc > De Gea as one of my transfers if worth -4?

Mata and Hazard if fit. But Hazard's not fit, so Mata and Gerrard

Just to put this Carvalho deal in perspective.

CR7 costed only 12.4m and he was already proven by that point.
Even for inflation, this is insaaaaaane.

Or maybe Cristiano was just a great buy? Not sure logic holds true.

Just because the dude's (W. Carvalho) not proven, doesn't mean he's not worth a big price for his potential. In a few years, maybe his price tag will seem low.

I call him little Yaya 😉

Great potential, indeed, you rarely see him lose a ball.

On the other hand I´m very sad if he leaves, but the agreement was he´d only leave for that value and if someone is up for it...

        Great potential? Maybe.

No one pays 5 times his market value just because he's got great potential. That's just bad business.

They were afraid the other "sharks" got there first. Either way it´s not a done deal at all.

No. Just because he is not proven means he is not worth that big sum because of his possible potential of which there is very little proof. Very few DM's ever move for that big money. Even more attacking CM's rarely get prices that high. That price tag is only warranted for a DM who is of top international class. he must become practically a world class midfielder to justify that price. And if he does, then it was a good deal.

But ManU can't know yet whether he becomes a top international. That's why you don't pay £35M for player who potentially could be worth £35M but is not yet. You pay significantly less for you take the risk that he will never be worth that. It seems like only reason they pay this much is that they are asked to pay that much. But who told they have to shop for DM in Portugal? Proven strong DM/CM's aren't exactly scarce.

They would have an internationally proven, couple of years older, top level DM/CM for 1/3 of that price for sure. And that's what makes this fee insanely high, no matter how good he turns out to be.

For you sporting, ne worries 🙂

He said it's muscular (is that his back again?) so he expects him to be off for 10 to 2 weeks. Ten days I presume!
He nodded when he said Aguero is in the squad, suggesting he may start tomorrow.
