PlayON Player Picks – Mini Midweek Gameweek

PlayON, the weekly Fantasy Football game, is rolling out a mini-Gameweek over the next couple of days. This comprises of the three fixtures taking place over Tuesday and Wednesday, and with three of the top five all set to face favourable home matches, we scour the PlayON Price List for potential bargains:

There is a £500 GUARANTEED pot on offer for the mini-gameweek – you can enter your team on the multiplayer page here.

If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built, you can compete for cash. You can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 52% win rate up to this point. You can also create an open challenge against anyone else on the site – just click the amount you want to play for and the number of slots (number of people who can accept your challenge) on the one-on-one page .

For a more in-depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.

Goalkeeper – Wojciech Szczesny
The Arsenal number one sets you back just 7.1m for this evening’s home game against West Ham. Arsene Wenger’s side have conceded just 10 times in front of their own fans this term, and bearing in mind the Hammers have mustered a mere 14 goals on their travels, a home shut-out could be on the cards. Coming in at 9.4m, City’s Joe Hart is relatively budget friendly for a home showdown with a Sunderland side that has found the net only four times in their last eight league matches.

Defender – Per Mertesacker
Once again, the Arsenal defence looks superb value for their home encounter with Sam Allardyce’s side. Mertesacker was in the goals in last weekend’s FA Cup win over Wigan and will be looking for his third league strike of the season later this evening – he can be acquired for only 7.8m in the PlayON Player Price List. With doubts over the Man City left-back berth and Vincent Kompany looking less than 100% against Liverpool on Sunday, we opt for Pablo Zabaleta (9.9m) as the safest route into Manuel Pellegrini’s backline at home to Sunderland, whilst six-goal Seamus Coleman, at 10.0m, is the cheapest of Everton’s back-four to face Palace at Goodison.

Midfielder – David Silva
City’s playmaker is arguably turning in his most impressive displays of the season ahead of a home game against struggling Sunderland. The Black Cats have managed a single clean sheet in eight, and with Manuel Pellegrini’s side scoring nine times in their last two matches at the Etihad, it could be a long night for the visitors. With three goals in his last six, Silva – available for 10.3m – looks poised to wreak havoc tomorrow evening as City attempt to bounce back from their loss at Liverpool. Elsewhere, Aaron Ramsey costs just 7.0m for the Gunners’ clash with West Ham. The Welshman was reported to be a slight doubt by Arsene Wenger in yesterday morning’s press conference but has since been pictured in training and is expected to return for tonight’s crucial match as the Gunners look to get their bid for a fourth place finish back on track. Finally, Gareth Barry (9.4m) offers a reliable route into Everton’s midfield. Whilst other options may be more explosive, Barry’s consistency of starts and deep-lying role has earned him 500+ points in four of his last five appearances, with the PlayON Scoring Matrix suited to his style of play.

Forward – Sergio Aguero
The Argentine will be hoping for a starting role at home to Sunderland tomorrow after signalling his injury comeback against Liverpool with a second-half sub appearance off the bench. Due to his lengthy stint on the sidelines, Aguero remains very budget friendly and comes in at only 8.3m – having scored nine times in as many matches at the Etihad, he’ll be confident of breaching Gus Poyet’s porous backline as City search for a fifteenth win in front of their own supporters. Edin Dzeko remains in contention, though, and could even start alongside Aguero if City opt for two up front. Priced at 12.0m, the Bosnian has four goals in his last five and affords us a strong double-up option for our two-man frontlines. Everton’s Romelu Lukaku will be looking to atone for a weekend blank at Sunderland. The big Belgian – who is available for 12.2m – has scored in three of his last four home appearances and welcomes Palace to Goodison tomorrow evening.

    Here is my midfield:

    Hazard, Toure, Lallana, Nasri, Sterling.

    I have 1ft and 1.1 in bank.

    Choose 1:

    A) Toure to Eriksen
    B) Toure to Silva (already have Nasri)

    I have got this team
    boruc // mannone
    Vlaar // zabaleta // merte // azpi // distin
    Silva // Gerrard // Eriksen // Noone // Yaya
    Suarez // Lukaku // Sturridge

Guys what should formation should I play in this week?
I have normally played in 3-4-3 but I have 4 big team defenders I dont want to bench one of them(original plan was to sell Zaba to get Aguero).

Should I do ahead with 4-3-3
So that I can sell Yaya to mutch or some cheap mid and Do Sturridge To Aguero for -4?

    or Go ahead with 3-4-3
    and do Yaya,Sturridge & Boruc -> Aguero, Mata & Gazzaniga for -8?

Hmm, I think I'm going to hold Yaya. I'll want him back for the last two GWs, and I already have transfers lined up, so it's not worth the 8 points needed for hits when I have decent squad depth.

Could be a stroke of genius, could be idiocy. We shall see.

Can Power 5 make its comeback?
With fitness issues surrounding RVP, Rooney, Studge… most of us will have Aguero and Suarez for the run in. Lukaku could well be sacrificed to make space for a cheap striker and we then could afford:
Silva, Nasri, Mata, Gerrard, Eriksen/Sterling/Ramsey (2 city and 1 united for DGW36). Gerrard is definitely worth it as Liverpool is closing on the title and Eriksen’s form cannot be ignored (same goes for Sterling).

In defense, United will play 3 times in a row at home from GW36 so a double up looks a viable option: Evra the most nailed on, Jones not bad either and then Evans/Smalling/Vidic/Ferdinand for the remaining CB spot. Even de Gea could be a good shout between the sticks.
Then, most of us already have 2 cheapies: Chester and a Palace defender (Dann/Ward) and a Chelsea defender (Azpi/Cahill/Ivan/Terry).

So is this the future template going into DGW36?

    Mannone or de Gea
    Evra, Jones/Evans/Smalling…, Azpi/Cahill/Ivan/Terry (Ward/Dann, Chester)
    Silva, Nasri, Mata, Gerrard, Eriksen/Sterling/Ramsey
    Aguero, Suarez (cheap striker)

I am seriously considering it because I already have Gerrard, Silva and Eriksen. I don't wanna loose these 3 as they are in form.
So my plan is Yaya to Nasri then 5th mid to Mata.

Was literally just looking at this in terms of getting Hazard for the last 2 so have a front 8 of:

      Silva, Nasri, Mata, Eriksen, Hazard
      Aguero, Suarez, Kane

and I can do that with just 4 transfers (1 hit in the double) but that only leaves me with 2 United players rather than 3.

Wow even Hazard in there, not bad! Hazard has Norwich and Cardiff for the last 2, tasty!
1 United defender is not bad either I reckon, I mean 1 is a must with their fixtures.

      Mannone
      2x Chelsea, 1x Palace, 1x United, 1x cheap
      Silva Nasri Mata Gerrard Eriksen
      Aguero Suarez Lukaku

      ...for now.

If Mourinho confirms that Hazard won't start against Sunderland, should I play

Lallana (villa away) or take a hit to get in Silva/Gerrard (already have Nasri and Sterling)

Wasn't sure if he meant he was taking out someone else, but now that I look back at it its obvious he meant Hazard.. 😛

I sold Hazard for Lallana which failed somewhat, and Hazard would be a good option to have for the run in.

Plus, I'm selling Lallana for Eriksen this week so Lallana is bound to do well again, keeps trolling me.

    Mannone
    Coleman Ivanovic Chester
    AJ Nasri TOURE HAZARD
    Saurez(c) Lukaku(vc) STURRIDGE

    Davies Jedinak Ward Chambers

    1FT, 3.0m bank

Looks like my AJ>Mata plan is dashed this week with the three big injuries!

Can anyone throw some light on what my best move is... Is it worth a 4 pointer to move two of the problem players, or just do the one FT and wait a week for the others...? Silva looks like he has more points potential than Mata this week..

Almost tempted to sit it out and save the FT for next week and rely on my bench?

    Thoughts?

    Transferred Yaya out for Silva.

Now I must figure out what to do with my defenders.

What 3 should I pick of the following 4?

    1) Coleman (MUN)
    2) Skrtel (nor)
    3) Ward (wha)
    4) Shaw (avl)

I'm torn between Ward and Shaw, though thinking the West Ham v Crystal Palace game will be a 0-0 affair.

So can anyone help me identify differentials over the next few weeks?

I'm second in my ML, 50 points behind the leader.

    So far I've earmarked:

    Coutinho
    Amalfitano (DGW)
    Huddlestone (DGW)

Are there any other players worth the risk in an attempt to claw back points?
