Champions League Picks – Semi-Finals, First Leg

Our coverage of the official UEFA Fantasy Champions League game returns this afternoon. With just four teams left in this year’s competition, our options are a little restricted ahead of tonight’s 7.30 pm deadline – nonetheless, we still manage to hand-pick a differential from each of the remaining sides for your consideration:

Filipe Luis – the Atletico left-back sets you back just 5.5 ahead of tonight’s home encounter with Chelsea. With Eden Hazard a major doubt, the visitors are likely to be stunted in attack against a side that have been mean in defence all season; the La Liga leaders have conceded just 22 times in 34 league games this term and with Jose Mourinho bound to keep it tight, Luis – owned by less than 3% of Fantasy managers – looks a real differential worth considering.

Fernando Torres – with Samuel Eto’o set to miss out due to a knee injury, the script looks set for the 9.0-priced Spaniard to lead the line against his former club in tonight’s first-leg. Torres will always have his critics but there’s no doubt he has a tendency to pop up with goals in the matches that matter most – the chance for him to ‘not celebrate’ a winner against his old team could well be the big story of the last four.

Gareth Bale – Real’s summer signing is back in full training after recovering from flu earlier in the week. With Cristiano Ronaldo poised for a return from injury, Carlo Ancelotti will surely target a Bayern backline that struggled against Man United’s pace through the centre in the previous round. Available for 12.0, Bale notched an oustanding winner in last week’s Spanish Cup final triumph over Barcelona and welcomes the defending champions to the Bernabeu in his best form of a superb debut season.

Thomas Muller – handed a brief 17-minute run-out for the weekend win over Braunschwieg, the Bayern forward will be fully refreshed for tomorrow’s trip to Spain. Priced at 11.0, Muller has a habit of netting vital goals in the big games and, with four strikes in his last six Champions League matches, will be confident of finding the net against a Madrid side that has mustered a mere three clean sheets in their 10 matches in this season’s competition.

      I am not so sure.

Maybe an 80% confidence thing from my part so i sold him.

Liverpool face the two best defences in the league, and neither allow any space between the lines.

Sterling is usually deployed to exploit spaces on the flanks or between the lines, so Coutinho could tip the diamond with SAS up top of Sturridge comes back.

Probably wrong, Sterling will most likely play, but he's not nailed IMO and even if he was, he aint scoring heavily in the next two.

reluctant to take a hit to shift Silva after doing a 4 pointer already.

    Do i;

    a) play Chester (ful)
    b) play Cahill (lvp)
    c) get Mata (-4)

I have Rambo, Nasri and Eriksen already in case you wanna sell me another option.

      C)

I did YYT, Dzeko, and Hazard to Eriksen, Aguero, Gerrard for a (-8), ended up getting 91 (-8) but cut a 20 point gap to beat my rival.

Did the same this week again, Baines, AJ and Silva --- Smalling, Mata, Ramsey.

Don't be afraid to take hits to put you in a better position for the upcoming last 3 gameweeks!

I wish my surgeries were as successful!

I have been plenty happy to take hits this season (54 transfers to date) but Mata doesn't fill me with confidence. Will he outscore the defenders by 4 points? I really don't trust him.

Nor do I. Plus, wait until we get to see how Giggs' United will look like. If he plays 4-4-2, then Mata will be sacrificed and play on the wings again. I took a -8 hit this week and I wouldn't do that if I were you. Wait and get him in for the DGW.

ooohhhh, i did consider him and Cazorla. I think the DGW blinkers will take effect though - plus i need to play 'defensively' on the advice of good FPL players.

I can't afford to get too punty with my current rank - i just want to hold on to it.

Repost because i've got only one reply 😀

I took a -8 points hit yesterday night with :

Coleman + Silva + Lukaku for Evans + Mata + Rooney...

I now learn that Mirralas will be out for the season. So do I :

    A) Play Vlaar against The Swans away and ditch Mirra next week

    B) Make Mirra for Ramsey for another 4 points hit.... ?

    Cheers

I'm bringing in Rooney and capping Ramsey (as you saw below), I like A because I see Soton scoring even if Everton win so you'll be relying on Coleman attacking points (which are very possible) while Arsenal have a good chance at CS against a Newcastle who are practically already on holiday..

would you start Coleman, Lukaku and Baines?

Ramsey or Mata, folks? Was all set on Mata, but I have since acquired Roonpig. Do I go with him and hope United can finish strongly with him influencing things, or should I just maintain not having Rambo in my team all season? 😀

Yeah. That might be the best option. Awful tempting having Mata for Norwich and then the DGW, however. I already have Ramsey. Will probably seriously consider picking up Mata as well. Just gonna sit on it for a bit.

Yeah i'm a bit nervous that Giggs will give Welbeck some of that up-front time he's wanting, which could be bad for our Juan

With Sturridge sidelined, yes. He's still Pool's main man and Aguero is always injury prone, which means he'll keep being given 60mins a game.

1-1 would be huge for Chelsea, and seems fairly reasonable as far as random predictions go.

Ready to go for the rest of the season?

    Mannone (Marshal)

Ivanovic - Chester - Baines (Baker, Ward)

Erikson - Mata - Nasri - Ramsey (Parker)

    Aguero - Rooney - Suarez

With the possibility of bringing in a 3d City player for the DGW. Maybe Zaba for Baines.

I simply can't find rom for Rambo in my midfield of:

    Mata Nasri Eriksen AJ
3 have doibles and eriksen. Should I just pass on him?
P.s, my fifth is Pozuelo so don"t bother there
