Champions League Picks – Semi-Finals, Second Leg

Our coverage of the official UEFA Fantasy Champions League game returns ahead of tonight’s 7.30 pm deadline. After last week’s pair of fixtures produced just one goal between them, Fantasy managers are hoping for an improvement as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid look to fire their way into next month’s final. We’ve picked one player per side and once again avoided the usual suspects:

Thomas Muller – the Bayern striker may well get the nod ahead of Mario Mandzukic after the Croatian’s ineffectual display in last week’s narrow loss at the Bernabeu. Muller – priced at 11.0 and owned by less than 3% of Fantasy managers – is more than capable of picking up the points even if restricted to a substitute role, though, and could well be key as Pep Guardiola’s side look to overcome a 1-0 deficit and remain in with a shout of retaining the trophy.

Karim Benzema –having notched the match-winner last time around, the Frenchman will fancy his chances of getting amongst the goals once again. With the searing pace of Cristiano Ronaldo and fit-again Gareth Bale on the flanks (the Welshman has recovered from last week’s flu bug) Carlo Ancelotti’s side look perfectly poised to hit Bayern on the counter and Benzema, priced at 11.5 and owned by 3%, could be the main beneficiary as the Spanish outfit look to stay on course for La Decima and win the competition for the tenth time.

Gary Cahill – handed a brief sub role in the weekend win at Liverpool, the Chelsea centre-half (priced at 5.5 and owned by 2%) will return to the starting line-up for tomorrow’s home game with Atletico. The tie is tentatively balanced after a goalless first-leg but with both John Terry and Petr Cech back in training, the Blues may well have a full-strength backline to face Diego Simeone’s side – as Sunday’s game at Anfield showed, Jose Mourinho’s side are second-to-none at delivering clean sheets in the games that matter most.

Diego Godin – the centre-half has been vital at both ends of the pitch for the La Liga leaders this term. The 5.5-priced Godin (owned by 1% of Fantasy managers) has chipped in with five goals and an assist across all competitions and bearing in mind Diego Simeone’s side have failed to concede in each of their last six, Mourinho’s side will have a tough task to break down Atletico’s well-drilled rearguard at the Bridge tomorrow night.

"If you lose in the region of £35million to £45million worth of players (due to administration) and don't buy to replace them you are going to struggle to compete at the level you once were." - Quote from Ally McCoist

My response would have been just as well you were playing in the 4th tier of Scottish football when it happened and why do you need to spend 7M on player wages to win such a crap league.

Technically the problem is not how much they are spending on players wages, as it is below 40% of their income. However, they are spending around 60-70% of their turnover on non-playing staff's wages. 😆

I also love how he keeps peddling the lie that they lost players due to administration. No Ally you lost the players when you liquidated, even though Green was spouting pish that they would all TUPE across. 😆

The non playing staff wages is a joke. Most of the directors are just there to make a quick buck and they dont care about the well-being of the club or the fans.

Green didnt tell an iota of truth. Players like Naisy had to leave. Its the lads like Ness i was shocked at.

I looked at their last published accounts and they got a 500K loan from Zeus capital and were paying 50K a week interest on it. 😆

"Green didnt tell an iota of truth." - Indeed, yet all their fans believed him because he said what they wanted to believe.

I will be very surprised if they make it to the start of the new season without going back into administration.

              Bloody ridiculous!

Their fans had to believe him, after CW and DM he was saying the right things.

I hope for the sake of Scottish football they dont.

They are losing at least 400K a month if their recent figures are to be believed but they are not audited so hard to say.

I suspect the figure is much higher and they don't have the 22 million IPO money this season and I would imagine they are going to find it hard to get new investment.

Their fans are starting to realise they have been taken for a ride and many of them are boycotting buying a season ticket this season. Without that money their fate is sealed and even with it there are no guarantees.

Unless they can find a new sugar daddy sometime soon then administration is inevitable.

There is a big battle going on just now. On one side you have the current board who are trying to milk the fans for everything they have but are pretending they have the clubs best interests at heart.

On the other side you have a tax fraudster (Dave King), who was on the board when they liquidated, was on the board with David Murray when they were cheating using EBTs and is now portraying himself as the saviour.

The fans seem to be backing Dave King and each side are able to exert some influence in the media. The story you linked seems to be the creation of the current board, and its intention is to scare the fans into buying season tickets this year.

I predict this is going to get very messy and the worrying thing is if they do go back into administration then they are unable to sell the club's assets as there is an ongoing legal claim between the current owner's and Craig Whyte, as to who owns them.

Although I feel sorry for the genuine fans, I do not feel sorry for the club as they deserve everything that is coming their way for cheating their way to numerous titles over the last 20 years and shafting all the clubs in the SPL.

early transfers def a big part, trading in the WC window aggressively for value, and being opportunistic on bench. ie buying janu the instant he scored (a 4.6 priced starting mid in ManU?!) and ride it as the 5th mid until it peters out. same with andros for a while. etc.

I don't mind taking some hits early in the season for value as those .1's and .2's add up to create big opportunity later in the season as values rise due to ownership concentrating on the clear performers.

110 mill isn't high..I'm on 116.8 The only way to make a truly high TV is to do loads of transfers, but, then all you end up doing is buying back the top picks at inflated prices..so it hardly matters.

Alonso could get 8 (2 and a CS)
Evra prob get 12 (2x CS)
So either scenario will get you 8.

So it's down to who will get most attacking points and BPS.
Evra wouold edge it for BPS as well.

      Eriksen.

4 DGW'ers in defense already. Not sure I would advise a hit. However if you did Demi is your best option.

    Replacing Gabi in UCL

Straight up swap for Tiago or go with Cahill and play a 4-4-3

    Courtois

    Azpi/Carvajal/Alaba/4.0

    Robben/Kroos/Bale/Koke

    Muller/CR7/Costa

Giving him a thought myself, but now the options seem quite equivalent. Penalties may be a matter and if there's a penalty, Robben will not go to rob it from Bayern this time.

Happy with my front 8 and leading my mini league by about 10 pts. Should I:
    A) Leave as is;
    B) Take a 4pt hit to swap Baines for a double GW defender - Evra or Zabaleta
