The Weekend Team News

Wayne Rooney is a doubt for United due to illness and a groin problem. Phil Jagielka is likely to return for Everton’s clash with Man City, though Sylvain Distin is doubtful. Felix Magath has concerns over Steve Sidwell ahead of the crunch clash with Stoke. Newcastle’s Luuk de Jong is available for selection ahead of the Cardiff encounter. Leandro Bacuna returns for Aston Villa, though Joe Bennett remains a doubt. Arsenal rule out an injured trio for the visit of West Brom, whilst Bacary Sagna is a worry due to a knee problem:

Wayne Rooney will be assessed over the next 24 hours as he struggles to overcome a bug and a tight groin problem. Ryan Giggs has revealed “a few of the lads have had a bug”, and is undecided on Robin Van Persie, going on to say “Whether tomorrow is too early we’ll just see how he goes today”.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Sylvain Distin has returned to training, with a late decision set to be made on the Frenchman’s availability against Man City. Phil Jagielka is in contention to feature, with Martinez “quite confident” the skipper will be in the squad, whilst the Toffees boss has allayed injury fears for Leighton Baines, stressing that the left-back will be fine to feature at the weekend. Steven Pienaar remains sidelined, though Martinez is hopeful the South African will make a return before the end of the season.

Steve Sidwell is Felix Magath’s main injury concern ahead of the crucial meeting with Stoke at the weekend, after the midfielder came off against Hull with a knock last week. Magath has no other injury worries, and could welcome back Kostas Mitroglou to the squad, after confirming the striker had trained all week.

Newcastle will welcome back loan-signing Luuk de Jong into the squad to face Cardiff this weekend, with the forward having recovered from an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Alan Pardew revealed that Hatem Ben Arfa was not involved in training with the main group, casting doubt over the attacker’s game time as the season draws to a close.

Leandro Bacuna has recovered from the virus that forced him off at half-time against Swansea last week, and is available for selection ahead of Villa’s clash with Hull. Joe Bennett though, remains a doubt with an ankle injury.

Arsenal are expected to have the same squad from the win over Newcastle when they take on West Brom at the weekend, with Arsene Wenger ruling out out Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. Although the left-back has returned to training, his manager admits he will be “a bit short” for Sunday, whilst no time-scale has been put on the returns of Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Bacary Sagna is rated as 50-50 after picking up a knee problem.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar has admitted that his absence on the pitch in recent weeks is down to a hip injury. The Brazilian is wary of exacerbating the injury and risk missing the World Cup, though hopes to feature in the final game of the season against Cardiff.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

      Think I am doing that

Reason being, both games are home, and the first is a good fixture too

Any City player has Everton away first, therefore could get injured/sent off/rotated before Villa at home

The way he completely tore up the defence last week, even though he only played a short while makes him my captain choice this week. Also don't really believe Aguero has hit his beast-mode form of earlier this season since his injury, also ManU have easier games (but not as much to play for though). Don't have Yaya.

As we get to the business end of the season and most are looking to tie up their mini leagues or improve their ranks I thought it would be worthwhile listing out some rank stats.

First up is the number of points difference between certain rank bandings:

    1 – 100 // 119pts
    100 - 1,000 // 54pts
    1,001 - 5,000 // 50pts
    5,001 - 10,000 // 24pts
    10,001 - 50,000 // 71pts
    50,001 - 100,000 // 40pts
    100,001 - 200,000 // 49pts
    200,001 - 300,000 // 36pts
    300,001 - 400,000 // 30pts
    400,001 - 500,000 // 27pts
    500,001 - 600,000 // 25pts
    600,001 - 700,000 // 24pts
    700,001 - 800,000 // 24pts
    800,001 - 900,000 // 24pts
    900,001 - 1,000,000 // 24pts

Secondly, I'm seeing a lot of points hits being taken this week. Below is a guide for how many places in current rank each 4pt hit would be worth in overall rank:

    1 – 100 // 3 places
    100 - 1,000 // 66 places
    1,001 - 5,000 // 320 places
    5,001 - 10,000 // 833 places
    10,001 - 50,000 // 2,253 places
    50,001 - 100,000 // 5,000 places
    100,001 - 200,000 // 8,163 places
    200,001 - 300,000 // 11,111 places
    300,001 - 400,000 // 13,333 places
    400,001 - 500,000 // 14,814 places
    500,001 - 600,000 // 16,000 places
    600,001 - 700,000 // 16,666 places
    700,001 - 800,000 // 16,666 places
    800,001 - 900,000 // 16,666 places
    900,001 - 1,000,000 // 16,666 places

    Good luck

" The Manchester United striker has a minor groin problem and temporary boss Ryan Giggs says he is a doubt for Saturday's home game with Sunderland,

However, the BBC understands Rooney will miss the Old Trafford clash with the Premier League strugglers. "

    However, the BBC understands...WHAT? HOW?

Because they are journalists who know people. Doesn't mean they are 100% but doesn't mean it should be ignored.

Yes, sounds like they have had a whisper.
There is more to this than a groin strain and/or virus.

Could it be connected to a certain Dutch man who is taking charge next season? The one who's wife goes on shopping trips with Van Persie's missus?

    Best option (-8)?

    1. Baines+Nasri -> Demi/Evra+Yaya
    2. Baines+Ramsey -> Kos+Yaya
    3. Baines+Eriksen -> Ferdinand/Alonso + Yaya

    My worries with each:
    1. a bit of a sideways move, losing a dgw player
    2. Ramsey could do well this week, and nice gwk38. Could be rested in final week though, so it's my current favourite.
    3. not the best defensive options (5.1M to spend)

Luckily I waited to get in Rooney. Is it worth a -4 to get Wickham and Demichelis in for Lukaku and Bake? Would allow me field the below side, thanks.

    Mannone
    Azpilicueta Chester Demichelis
    Ramsey Mata Eriksen Yaya
    Suarez Aguero Wickham

    Adrian Noone Flanagan Coleman

Great patience in keeping your wildcard this long. I would say no, you waited this long so you will want guaranteed starters.
