Versus – Low to Mid-Price Midfielders

With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

        I know but at 5.5 id rather take the risk then spend 9,0m on mata, makes the rest of my team look insane especially the midfield now with going mata > young

    really dont know what im doing with Fluis in my team........ fixtures arent incredible, hes not nailed on and he takes up a big chunk of money

      im thinking the same, and they got beat 3-0 yesterday lol I have been thinking having no defender over 5.0 and making my front 8 a force !

      He is nailed on IMO. Strange how people changed their opinion quickly because a guy on TV said Mou could start with the same back 4 of last season

          He could drop Filipe Luis for certain games if he feels its beneficial to play Ivanovic/Azpilicueta as fullbacks, possibly the big away games?

      It seems most of us this year are doing much the same about one expensive player or another.
      When you have top clubs with 15 midfielders, it doesn't make selection easy Colonel S.

    Hi there

    Could I get a RMT please?

    DDG / Foster
    Huth / N.Taylor / Vertonghen / Baines / Coloccini
    Mata / Fabregas / Gylffi / Lamela / Hoilett
    Rooney / Jovetic / Nugent

    2m ITB.

    Reasoning:
    DDG would play mostly, but Foster would be able to step in as and when needed
    Vert & Baines to play every week, then choose 1 more D from the other 3
    Hoilett & Nugent would rotate, so some weeks would be 3-5-2, other weeks would be 3-4-3.

    I could also swap Lamela for Coutinho, but since LIV have European footie and Lamela seems to have rediscovered himself under Poke in the Net
    Also, (and alternatively) I could upgrade Nugent to Pelle (SOU), meaning I would play 3-4-3 most weeks with Hoilett as 1st sub.

    Thoughts?

      I imagine Fabregas playing a little too far back to rack up points in FPL. Plus you already have Costa and Luis for Chelsea attack and D respectively. Would definitely swap him for someone else. There are a ton of good options at that price.

    Am I the only one considering Pelle? At this rate he might be my differential. I heard some reports saying he had looked really good in the friendlies, but then a player that couldn't nail down a spot at Parma in his prime worries me a bit, even though he then went on to score almost a goal per game for Feyenoord.

    I know, everybody says: "ah, Eresdivisie, my grandmother with a prosthetic hip could score 30 goals there!", but there are a few examples of players making the transition lately.

    Silva performs better with aguero playing. i didn't like him with jovetic.

      Not too sure on Terry's game time/rotation? Also, GK is semi weak as is your forward line!
      You've significant cash invested in mids and defence.... Downgrade Baines??

        I agree about the outs. But, as for the first six weeks, looking at fixtures piling up, injuries and rotation, Out of Rooney, Dzeko and Costa, I think the first two will get more game time and be first choice for PL games every time. Should be close though.
