The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Next up is Demi who is looking for feedback on this team:

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMTs throughout the day on this article.

    ----------------Begovic
    ---Baines - Terry - Clyne
    Fabregas - Mata - Sanchez - Siggy
    -----Rooney - Lukaku - Bojan

    Gilks - Albrighton - Vlaar - 4m

Clyne would become Vermaelen if he goes to United.

If you're happy with playing Bojan every week then it's fine, and obviously you are.

Far too much at the back. Everton have a tricky run after GW1. With Crouch & Diouf, Bojan ain't nailed on every week. Albrighton is a poor 5th midfield choice too. I'd suggest swapping Baines and putting 0.5 into 5th mid and 0.5 to 3rd fwd.

Bavies is the best option for Pochy on the left given that Vert will be pushed back to the center and Rose doesn't provide that much quality.
Bruce played EL playoffs along with a strong team and Steve Bruce usually implements 3-5-2 and he needs Bruce in such formation.
Wisdom is their as a cheap 4.0 defender i'm not counting that much on him
Jovetic is a nailed on at least for 2-3 GW as Aguero shows fitness concerns and Pelligerini fancies playing with two frontmen.

I know the forward line is punty but I just dont fancy Dzeko,Giroud, Costa.

Food for though on the RMT thread discussion

Should you just use some of the template?

    GK:
Evs is going with DDG 4.0, so should you

    Defense:
Innsie & Zep discovered Caulker & Ward have a brilliant home/ away rotation early in the season, a must have
    Bubz says Vertonghen is essential
For Chelsea cover, do the Doosra and get Ivanovic so you can bring in Baines week 8 when Everton's fixtures ease (mind you, remember to never bench and never captain and Baines)
Of course, if you want ManU cover, SweetPea will tell you Shaw is the only way to fly

Naturally, once you decide how to handle all these pieces is advice, you will need some cheap 4.0 or 4.5s, just make sure you get one(s) that is (are) nailed on

    Midfield:
Pick one from Hazard or Fabregas
Pick one from Mata or Young
Pick one from Sanchez or Ramsey or Eriksen or Lamela
Pick one from Siggurdson or Henderson or Snodgrass
Pick one from Yaya or Albrighton or Marney

    Forward:
Pick one from Sturridge or Rooney or Costa
Pick one from Rooney or Costa or Lukaku or Dzeko
Pick one com Lukaku or Dzeko or Giroud or Adebayor or Soldado or Jovetic or Remy or Pelle or Bony or Austin or Bojan or Jelavic or Long or Abgonlahor or Weimann or Bent BUT you will probably regret any pick that costs less than 7.5

Why tell you who recommends the defense picks and not the others ?
    a) defense points are what make the difference between an average team and a great team
    b) front 8 is reasonably template at this point ; what will separate players as the season goes on is transfer management, unearthing rising gems early, admitting when you are wrong early, and understanding the team balance you need to score well is not about just trying to load up on expensive players... all of which, I promise you, I forget often

    Ferdinand / Wisdom / Shaw / Terry / Bavies

I was thinking about some Man Utd defender due to their glad schedule, but got Young only becouse of his power in the pre-season.

Only wondering if Shaw would get his spot on the left hand side so he'd be useless. Though then it'd be easy to upgrade Young to Sigurdsson (using Krul) or downgrade him and do something else (maybe put the 1m/1,5m to forwards, altough Jovetic-Lukaku looks nice in my opinion).

    Evening, thoughts on this?

    Begovic/Fabianski
    Cahill/Evans/Debuchy/Huth/N.Taylor
    Mata/Eriksen/Silva/Hendo/Albrighton
    Costa/Rooney/Bojan

Stoke/Swansea rotate ridiculously well (have a browse) and then looking at getting siggy for hendo after gw 1....

Defence too expensive. Debuchy to 4.0. Krul and Foster also rotate well and cost a million less.

There's 2.5 to spread around up front as you wish. Better balance

If you're gonna have a front line that expensive I don't see how you can justify having Hazard and Sanchez. It kills the rest of your midfield. I'd turn them into Ramsey and Fab and then turn Snoddy/Young into Eriksen/Siggy

I do really want Eriksen. Don't know if it's worth losing Lukaku. I agree my 3rd 4th and 5th mid needs some work. But I think a front line of Haz, Sanchez, Rooney, Costa and Lukaku could carry them. I'll have a think on it.

Zabaleta will be rotated with Sagana, especially at the beginning of the season with Zab getting to the World Cup final. Is that Ben Davies? Not sure if he'll walk straight into the team over Rose. Nice midfield. Maybe downgrade the defence and try upgrade Naismith

Sorry just don't get this bench obsession. Rather take a combined 100mins from three like Young, Luis and Dzeko, over 100-180mins from Wanyama. Wisdom and Saylor starting or coming on.

Here's the slight flaw in that theory: You're reducing the amount of money you have the field. By benching Siggy/Bojan and Albrighton you're putting 11.5 million on your bench, whereas if you benched 2 cheap defenders (Say Vlaar and a 4.0), you only have 8.5. So even though you might have a better point per $, you could have less points.

All that said, I haven't actually crunched the numbers and seen which way is better, but I did read an article on some blog or another that the using this year's prices and last year's points per 90 minutes, the 3-4-3 was the best formation. It was just talking about a set and forget team, didn't take into account rotation.

            Blargh, can't do maths. You're benching 10-10.5m w/ the Bojan/Siggy rotation. Still, point stands. 10 > 8.5

Yeah Fletcher has been good in the past. I never owned Kolorov or Navas last year because I was always concerned over there playing time. I did however, see many people fussing about them week in and week out. It's not a bad punt I guess just not for me.

I didnt have navas either it was him or Nasri as Nasri takes corners and sets up quite a lot. Kolorov is the free kick master and last half of the season was played left back over clichy. Could be a hit and miss but will need at least 2 city players just not forwards as theres too much rotation

Havent tinkered for a while, what do you think? I'm feeling pretty good.

Debuchy, Vermaelen if he goes to Man Utd, Rosenior, van Aanholt, Wisdom
    Fabregas, Mata, Sanchez, Arnautovic, Siggy
    Rooney, Diego Costa, Bojan

Bojan and Siggy rotate extremely well so can chop and change between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3.
Can substitute Rosenior out for Chester and also Verm for another 5.0 like Ward or BDavies if he doesn't go to Man Utd.

Will get the most points for Stoke this season I think. Great pre-season form and if he can take that with him then he'll be an incredible bargain for 5.5.
Plus if he doesn't play or has tough fixtures then I still have another decent midfielder that will step in.

Do you really need two Stoke attackers, with all due deference to the allegiance suggested by your gravatar? Do you really want to have to play one of them away to City? Personally I'm on team Austin-instead-of-Bojan. Assuming Vermaelen doesn't go to United, I'd have Evans over Debuchy

If you look at the season before last when Enrique played 2200 mins he got 134ish points, a good tally.

If he plays he'll bag points. I just need Rodgers to realise that Johnson is gash, put Flanno there and give Enrique his left back position back.

        Probably a long shot though.
