The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

  Jags fixtures ain't great. Rafael as a wing back could well struggle for game time with Valencia there, johnny Evans nailed on for same price. Yaya well over priced, if you want City mid go silva and save 2m. Sturridge.... I don't think lpool have great opening fixtures and the post Suarez era could be tough for him to adjust, I'd go with Costa for atleast opening 2 games and save 1m. That gives you 3m to improve jags yo chelsea defender,and your bench who won't get much game time. tiote is way to defensive too.

    thanks for that. fantastic advice. Silva wasn't great compared to yaya last season though? With yaya being a free kick taker and likely to be up there with the top points scores this season again, surely worth it?

      Quite right on the fixtures, I'd just say with all new signings that they're untested. But the gamble could well pay off. That is if you even see Costa as a gamble!

  No need for two expensive keepers, pick one or the other or two cheap 4.5 keepers to rotate.
  
  Vermaelen - hold off on that until he gets a move. Perhaps swap to Ben Davies (although Rose might play of course). I'd change one of your 4.5m defenders to a 4.0 such as Moore of Leicester.
  
  Herrera won't rack up a lot of points as he's deep lying. Get rid, find the money to get an 8.0 such as Eriksen or Lamela, or find a way to stretch to 9.0 and get Mata (a must have I feel).
  
  Having both Arnautovic AND Bojan is bold, two attacking players from a mid-table side...dunno! Keep Bojan and ditch Arnautovic, Henderson's a good punt at that price range.

  I might downgrade Szcz to 4.5 and shore up defense, maybe use the 1.0 to upgrade Davies to a Man City or Chelsea DEF and get rid of 4.5 Ferdinand who's playing time is dubious.

  Vermalen makes no sense unless he goes to MU (and starts) Debuchy is .5 more, if you want an ARS def.
  
  Cameron-stk Vlaar-AV make the most sense at 4.5 (don't like O'shea)
