Versus – Mata, Hazard, Sterling and Ramsey

There may be under a week left under the 2014/15 season gets underway but for many Fantasy managers, the midfield dilemma is yet to be resolved. In the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, in particular, the player price list has handed us numerous options to consider for our five-man midfields, with ten players coming in at 9.0 or over:

In this, our latest article for members, we take a look at four of the main contenders – Eden Hazard, Aaron Ramsey, Juan Mata and Raheem Sterling – currently on Fantasy radars.

Sterling has netted in two of his last four appearances and, after notching nine times last term, is backed by many to step up for Liverpool after Luis Suarez’ departure. Ramsey’s 10 goals and nine assists in just 23 appearances last season has catapulted the Welshman into the premium bracket at 9.0, with his strike in yesterday’s Community Shield handing us a timely reminder of his talents. Mata (9.0) has been one of Louis van Gaal’s star performers in the role in “the hole” in a new 3-4-1-2 formation, whilst the 10.0-priced Hazard, despite only returning to pre-season action last week, sits in 22% of squads ahead of fixtures against promoted pair Burnley and Leicester in his first two fixtures.

Casting an eye back to last season, then, we delve into the data and compare their respective displays. First up, we assess each player’s creativity and distribution.

    Which one would you pick?

    A) Siggy + Henderson + Krul + Terry (with Krul being my only keeper, Siggy and Henderson playing every week)

    B) Eriksen + Davis + Begovic + Ward (With Begovic being my only keeper,Eriksen and Davis playing every week)

    Thanks 😀

you mean the non RMT RMT you posted a few pages back?

The way I see it is like this: (all based on fantasy points of course)

          Eriksen > Siggy
          Davis = Hendo
          Bego > Krul
          Ward < Terry

          Thoughts?

I agree 100%, yes I was referring to the post I made a few pages ago. With the option you suggested, it would now allow me to get

            Bego (Gilks)
            Evans Ward Chester (Moore Hutton)
            Eriksen Davis Ramsey Mata (Marney)

Hey guys, I thought I would repost this as it got a pretty good reception yesterday. Would be happy to see you opinions on it

My thoughts on the Chelsea backline situation.

Based on what I have read, opinions on here and my opinion of course.

Basically you only have 5 relevant players.

    1) John Terry - the heartbeat of the defence and Mourinhos favourite. Should start the early games and is in good goal scoring form this pre season. 2nd highest scoring defender last year and 9th overall. A big thing in his advantage is the international friendlies early in the season. Having retired from international duty and his CB partners both regulars for their national team should make him the least rotated CB among the early GWs

    2) Gary Cahill - The most solid of the Chelsea CBs. Should be the second most nailed on over the early fixtures. Has to play internationals which may get him a rest either before or after.

    3) Branislav Ivanovic - Thirteen less points then JT last year with 120 more minutes yet still gets a higher price tag. But the big Serbian loves to get forward. However, Ivanovic is the Chelsea defender I am least high on. I do not believe he is a Mourinho type of player. Mourinho likes to play a defensively sound game plan and Ivan can be caught out bombing forward. In my opinion I think Ivanovic will play the rotation man for both RB and CB. Ivanovic is also a starter for his National team which may give him cause for rest.

    4) Cesar Azpilicueta - I think because of Ivanovics defensive, Azpilicueta will be the favoured RB. He had a very solid year playing OOP on the left side and is defensively strong. Mourinho like to have his outside defenders to play on their preferred side so they dont have to cut back to cross on their preferred foot. Azpilicueta is also not a starter for the Spanish national team which may means he doesnt need a week off. Also their is some concern about Felipe Luis starting the first few GWs. Who will start at LB then? Azpilicueta. If Luis plays, who will start at RB? Azpilicueta. Him and Terry are the most nailed for GW1 to 10 I believe.

    5) Felipe Luis - Luis is a natural Left footer which is a tick for Mourinhos system. Also I think he was Athleticos best all round performer last year. However he is not a natural goal scorer ala Coleman. I think Luis is the most nailed on of all Chelsea defenders, but not from GW1. Yes he may be eased in for a couple of weeks but he will nail that LB role so keep on eye on when he starts.

I hope this helps. Good luck with the season fellow managers.

Nailed for the first 10 until after the second international break.

May miss 1 or 2 in that time, but less than the others IMO.

After that will need to reevaluate.

I'm all over Luis from GW1.

It's all guesswork of course, but I think he'll be a starter from the outset. Burnley and Leic are pretty good fixtures to blood him into the new league and as you have stated, I think long term he is (pretty much) nailed for that LB spot.

No doubt any of those 5 will annoy you at times when they are rotated, but you've got to accept that risk when you are buying a Chelsea DFer

It's not too bad as for the (lack of) money spent. If you could somehow find 0.5 to upgrade one of the 4.0 players (to Colo perhaps), then it would be just dandy and allow you a tasty front 8

They will definitely play in the middle. I was hoping to find someone who may be nailed on in those fullback positions though.
Could definitely see some value in an Enrique (who has been a pretty handy FPL player of the past), or a Manquillo at 5m in that liverpool defence.

That does look like the way to go, especially from GW1. Might just monitor the fullbacks for now.
I think Lovren is a great pick. I just didn't want to pay 5.5m for him when i only have a limited backline budget anyways. You need definite starters from GW 1, and i dont want to be wasting trades in the first few weeks on defenders who aren't playing.
Do we know yet if Mariappa is nailed-on, might have to drop Ward so i can get Lovren in.

    1. Siggy still playing on the wing?

I think Siggy will be back in the hole come game day.

LVG got The Netherlands very solid with relatively unknown players in a tight time frame. So I am backing him in to do the same with ManU.

Stoke are more attacking these days under Hughes.

      1) Nobody knows for sure, but the hope is that the 4-4-2 was a failed experiment and Siggy will be back in the hole come the start of the season

      2) If you can afford the extra and don't have a Utd Dfer, then yeh DDG is defo a better option in my opinion. The system seems to be working well in pre-season and we are set to see a totally different Utd than last season.

I would go a Man Utd Dfer over Debuchy until Arse fixtures get better.

Bartley will probably not be in the team once Swans make a CB signing (Federico from Napoli imminent) so keep an eye on that.

And Zamora will be a last 10-15mins player, so you really need to look into replacing him as it will leave you thin on the ground if one of your players is rotated or injured

    Dear DZ,

Why do we not say the name "Steven Naismith" around these parts?

    Lukaku possibly not yet fit,
same with their other belgian attacker Mirallas,
    he's only 27,
Roberto Martinez loves him (tried to sign him in the Wigan days, but SN chose Everton),
Kone coming off a lost season

... sure, Everton have a seemingly tough schedule, but Naismith only costs 5.0m, and has scored 5 goals from 1400 minutes (last season) and 4 goals in 1300 the season before.

    Is he on anyone's radar?

        No Bojan love?

I agree Fletcher is probably a better prospect but Bojan gets the nod for me due to the first fixture against AVL at home. Wanna pre empt those price rises.

Bojan is kinda why i posted this.

If you're just buying filler for a 3rd striker, 5.5m is unnecessary. And the "rotate with Sigurdsson" is folly. Why would you plan to rotate Sigurdsson out?

For anyone that can't stump up an extra .5 for one of the semi decent 5.5 options then he is a good about. Better that Zamora anyway.

But he will be back on the bench soon (even though I can't see him starting GW1)

Fixtures are rough. Also there are numerous options in midfield that can take a wing spot off him. Lukaku won't be far away either.

Interesting chat about Dzeko and Jovetic on the last page.

It's kind of what I was feeling deep down, but didn't want to admit to myself.

Jovetic is in better form right now, is the better player overall and could easily be the man to partner Kun once he's back in the fold.

Dzeko to Jovetic and sit on the 0.5 just incase is probably the best bet

bojan is tempting but I just can't see him cutting it in the PL. great preseason, but we all know the boselli story.

austin, on the other hand, is like the reincarnation of rickie lambert (main man up top, pens). caveat is that he plays for QPR.

    who would you pick?

I'm not convinced on Austin's credentials yet. QPR aren't prolific although I am aware they are better with Austin in the side. Still, he will need to make the step up to the PL which as you know isn't easy. Just ask Danny Graham.

Nice team. Not really much to say except that Chambers is very short term, but if you're cool with that then go ahead.

West Brom & Villa are not going to get you many cleanies, I'd try to find and extra 0.5 and have two rotating nailed on 4.5's instead of Chambers & Wisdom/Hutton

Coutinho is an interesting punt. Could work well
