Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 1 – Sunday

Raheem Sterling grabs a goal and assist as Liverpool edge past Southampton. Daniel Sturridge is also amongst the goals as Nathaniel Clyne slams home the visitors’ consolation. Elsewhere, goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero ensure champions City are off to a winning start with a 2-0 triumph at Newcastle.

Sterling the Star for Reds
A goal and assist from the youngster helped Liverpool to a narrow win over Southampton in the first game of the post-Luis Suarez era. Fielded on the left of a 4-2-3-1 formation, Sterling was second only to Aaron Ramsey for midfield ownership as the season got underway and, like the Welshman, has instantly found his form – with the maximum bonus also accrued, few will be deterred by back-to-back road trips to City and Spurs as new owners look set to come flooding in. A price rise over the week looks assured as Fantasy managers take advantage of the wide man’s current 8.5 price tag.

Sturridge the Match-Winner for Liverpool
Somewhat overshadowed by Sterling’s 13-point haul, the forward nonetheless rewarded his 30% of Fantasy Premier League owners with the Merseysiders’ second in a 2-1 triumph. While the Sterling bandwagon builds momentum, it’s debatable whether Sturridge’s non-owners will be swayed by those upcoming visits to the Etihad and White Hart Lane, with many penciling him in for Gameweek 4 as the schedule starts to smile a little more kindly.

Clyne Strike Offers Hope for Saints
The 5.0-priced right-back leapt onto Fantasy radars with the visitors’ consolation at Anfield. Many expected Ronald Koeman’s side to be on a hiding to nothing after many of last year’s key players left over the summer but Southampton’s performance certainly suggests they could be worthy of our consideration ahead of a very kind run of fixtures. New playmaker Dusan Tadic earned a smart assist for Clyne’s strike, and with midfielder James Ward-Prowse (5.0) handed a start on the right of the front three, there’s reason for Fantasy optimism amongst the St Mary’s outfit aghead of a schedule which affords six kind home games (WBA, NEW, QPR, SUN, STO, LEI) and trips to West Ham, Swansea and Hull in the next 10.

Aguero Seals it for City
Manuel Pellegrini started with Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko up front at Newcastle but both were overshadowed by the fit-again Argentine in City’s 2-0 win. Emerging from the bench on 83 minutes, Aguero needed just seven minutes to find the net and remind us just how devastating a Fantasy force he can be.

With another week until the champions’ next league match against Liverpool, there’s every chance Aguero’s match sharpness will be up to scratch, allowing Pellegrini to start the diminutive frontman. His return immediately places concerns over Jovetic’s security of pitch time, though the Montenegro international turned in an impressive shift, with five attempts on goal and a trio of chances created for his team-mates at St James’ Park. With the likes of Sturridge, Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa so highly owned, Aguero looks a deadly differential in the premium forwards category and currently sits in just 4% of teams.

Silva Off the Mark
The City playmaker underlined the strength of options in the premium midfield bracket by grabbing the opener on Tyneside. Following strikes from Ramsey and Sterling, the Spaniard’s goal also brought him onto radars and offers hope that he could finally be set to overshadow the highly priced Yaya Toure in the City midfield. Like Aguero, Silva is also something of a differential (9%) but many will be understandably cautious here – we’ve no doubts over either’s potential but, as we’ve seen on all too many occasions in the past, whether the pair can string together a run of starts without injury is a little more than questionable.

well, him and eriksen will take some work. they both like playing centrally, but it will certainly improve.

but if you're going to gamble on lamela, at least commit to it for a few weeks! 🙂 better players than him blanked this week!

I'd give him the next four games probably, and see if there are any good replacements.

Yes. Not convincing, but then again they played with 10 men for most of the game. Going to be a different story at home to QPR.

awfull? away to the hammres with 10 men (even then west ham had 11 men behinf the ball most the game) - small pitch. You are never going to be able to shine in that game - even messi would look sub-par

Considering we don't have transfers in UFPL after GW4 starts will people be putting Aguero and Walcott in their squads? Great potential obviously, but also a great outlay for a highly injury prone player and a currently injured player.

you can do loans there, so I'd use those on them later, both are too injury prone to have, well maybe Aguero could stay fit for longer periods, but Walcott is around only for streaks of matches.

Its a good point, i never used a loan last season, may keep 1.5 in the bank then if aguero does stay fit i could do one of Costa/Roo/Studge to Aguero.

I used, it bust still a bit moot on some details there, but it did help me in the last few rounds. I'd use it as a backup if someone emerges or a big hitter comes back from injury.

Have to see what the news on Walcott is nearer the time.

Aguero is a no for me, best thing about this game is you can take (players like) Dzeko who are cheaper and get their points when they have good games, transfer them out when they don't

everyone seemed to think that utd were serious title contenders but forgot that their back line consisted of young, lingard, jones, smalling and blackett. It takes time to rebuild a team, you cant expect immediate success from van gaal.

    What to do with Jovetic?

Didn't think Kun would be back so soon. Dzeko was man of the match. Both will limit Jovetic's game time. City's fixtures look poor and there are good alternatives available; Pelle (who will score goals IMO) Adebayor, Bony, Giroud.

Genuinely don't know whether to ship now or hold for snort her gw. Advice appreciated!

I'd be tempted to just ship him. Adebayor would be the main man on my list, two home fixture in a row and he's not really got any question marks over him (Giroud: fixtures, fitness. Bony: transfer speculations).

Eyeing Giroud myself, but will wait some more (until Ozil is back at least).

I'll wait but can easily see why one would want to transfer him out. Did you see the match though? Did Dzeko impress you much? He got the assist alright, but if it weren't for Silva, Jovetic would have got that one quite easily etc. too early to completely write off imho

Should I take a punt on Pelle, southamption impressed me against liverpool last night with tadic's creativity behind him i think he could be on the end of quiet a few goals for southamption as their main man up front + they're next 5 games are very enticing and should afford him plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Thoughts?

      Pretty nailed I think.

Keep your eye on Gamboa, not because I think he will replace Pocognoli... Just because I think he will be the better propsect. He is in training now (was stuck at border control this weekend)... And all the WBA forum believe he will be pushed into a wingback role, as part of a 3-5-2.

Also 4.5M... I have him already.
