Scout Notes – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Cesc Fabregas grabs a pair of assists as Chelsea overcome Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Diego Costa nets on his league debut, while Branislav Ivanovic and Andre Schurrle are also amongst the goals as the Blues get off to an impressive start.

Chelsea New Boys Dazzle in Burnley Destruction
Positioned in the Blues double-pivot alongside Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas showed that, despite a deep-lying role, he looks poised to play a major part in our Fantasy seasons. The Spaniard pulled the strings for Jose Mourinho’s side in an outstanding first-half display that harvested a pair of assists and the maximum bonus points as he overshadowed the pricier Eden Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.

Up front, Diego Costa continued the momentum that saw him score four times over the summer friendlies. Drafted in by 37% of FPL managers prior to the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid man was second only to Wayne Rooney in last week’s Captain Poll and his predatory instincts will surely persuade more to invest as Mourinho’s men welcome Leicester, Swansea and Villa to the Bridge in the next five.

Schurrle Stakes a Claim
The German’s excellent strike also brings him onto radars as a potential mid-price option. Coming in at just 7.5, Schurrle scored eight times in just over 1400 minutes last season, with an average of 176.4 minutes per goal quicker than any Chelsea player – currently sitting in just 6% of FPL sides, he looks a real prospect if he can retain the role on the right of the attacking midfield three.

Luis and Cech Warm the Blues Bench
Mourinho started last season’s back-four for the Burnley clash as new signing Filipe Luis was named amongst the substitutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic fielded as full-backs. Clearly, though, the new boy won’t be expected to sit on the bench every week and it may not be for a number of matches before we get a clear idea of Mourinho’s intentions – there seems little conclusions can be made on last night’s team sheet. Thibaut Courtois got the nod ahead of Petr Cech for the number one jersey, though before the match, the Blues boss added further uncertainty to the situation by stating:

“Thibaut is my number one tonight against Burnley. I don’t make decisions for the season; I make decisions for a match.”

Arfield’s Budget Appeal
The Clarets man was one of only three budget midfielders to get amongst the goals this week, along with Ki Sung-Yeung and Lee Cattermole. Having netted eight times in last year’s Championship, Arfield carries the main scoring threat in the centre of the park in Sean Dyche’s side and, after proving his capabilities against a side that chalked up 18 clean sheets last season, could come into contention as a cheap fifth midfield option.

I just watched match of the day aswell and Utd did not look impressive vs Swansea . I'm not saying Mata will not to do well . The shift in formation in the second half also has to be a worry . I mean if Mata is not playing as a number 10 then is he that great of a pick ?

I don't see why anyone transferring Mata out should be called a knee jerker tbh. It could just be called admitting one's mistake, which often happens at the start of the season.

It's not. Last year when Yaya and Ramsey starting scoring everyone said the same. Look where that got us. Fecking nowhere.

Chelsea will maul Leicester big time. Another potential Cesc double digit score is on the cards. He could be 10m by the time we get to the two week break after week 3.

      #assuming u are referring to mata->fab transfer

wad if he miss out on a monster score again and price dropping like a stone? you will no longer be able to get fab in without 2 transfer.

as good as mata is fab is as good an option..definitely not a knee jerk. LEI and SWAN home in the next 3 is as decent as utd's fixture.

of cos fab can fail..but the potential 0.4-0.5m swing sweeten the deal..and nothing shows that mata will miraculously improve.

even mata->siggy is worth it as siggy is 3m cheaper and u can use the cash to get in aguero easily

Unless you have a player with a long-term injury (Barkley, Snodgrass etc), or players not currently being selected as 1st team . . . Why make a transfer this week??

Think back to how you felt as you were carefully putting your team together - If all your team are starters, surely every one of them deserves more than ONE game before being sold?

Considering the very wild wildcard to employ a season long squad rotation policy, what do you think?

    Begovic (Myhill)
Debuchy / Caulker / Cahill (Bruce / Bartley)
Siggy / Eriksen / Sterling / Ramsey (Marney)
    Rooney Costa Jovetic

    1.0 ITB

It's very drastic, but should I bring in the likes of Krul, Clyne, Rodwell & Austin and strengthen the bench so I can rotate weekly and maximise squad output?

I've played this game for a few years now. My first season was awful. I kept taking points hits to chase players who scored big the previous week. And more often then not I got stung. Most of the time the points hits didn't pay off and players I'd knee jerked out came good. So I went round in circles.
Although my team value was right up there with some of the best I was still floundering around the 1.2 million mark. Value didn't turn into points. I've come to realise patience is the key. Class will shine through and points hits should be a LAST resort!

All these price rises and falls just feel like double punishment for a couple of my players blanking, market is far to volatile in these early weeks, price changes should just be frozen until September!

You're a real player then? Does that make me a make believe player as Ive transfered out Mata for Fabregas due to wanting two attacking players in a team which looks significantly better equipped than the other?

It shouldn't, it's part of the game. But it's bothering nonetheless tho, especially since I had Naughton and had to waste a free transfer. Without Naughton things would have been easier.

3 days into the season and I know the squad I need to build up to having, times are good.

    Krul/Beg

    Robertson/Van Aanholt/Terry/Hutton/ Chambers

    De Jong/ Fabregas/Sterling/ Siggy/Ramsey

    Rooney/Costa/Bojan

Robertson is my Nap for the season boy is pure quality.

Chambers will be dropped once game time eases off for him.

Have Ramsey and Sanchez in midfield, want a Chelsea midfielder against LEI.

    So Sanchez > Hazard/Fabregas
    Or
    Ramsey > Fabregas?

    Thanks.

No, it should aggrevate us. Mata is a top player in one of the top teams and they're playing against the bottom league contenders in the next 4 or so..

This. Which means if we want to go back to Mata from Fab (which might happen) then we can easily do so and make £0.2m in the process. Bingo.

    GW2 Team:

    Begovic
    Caulker Terry Naylor
    Ramsey Fabregas Siggy Young
    Sturridge Costa Rooney

    Gilks Chambers Marney Wisdom

Used my FT to bring in Siggy for Hendo, but now I'm also thinking of -8 for Young->Sterling & Sturridge->Dzeko coz. Seems like a sideways move but the forthcoming price rise of Sterling and fall of Young is annoying me. Advice? Thanks.

Chelsea's only real forward. Chelsea created 2nd most chances last season and someone to put them away could get bucketloads.
