With Gameweek 1 concluded, it’s time to delve a little deeper into the data in our first “Big Numbers” article for members of the campaign. We analyse the display of Arsenal’s new wide man against Palace, the QPR front pairing at home to Hull, Liverpool’s ever-improving youngster, Southampton’s delivery under Ronald Koeman and United’s weekend scorer in the 2-1 home loss to Swansea.
Many might disagree but if you look at play styles as well as history,
Sterling (c) vs man city is not that crazyOpen ControlsI agree.
Open Controls
PVA is playing United.
Open ControlsMore reason to get him then
Open Controls
Sorry about that. Getting teams mixed.
Err Chambers thenOpen Controls
Dead Team Scoreboard, now.....
Open ControlsGot some time to myself, working on it now...
Patience, laddy...Open ControlsCan't even begin to imagine how much of a mindf**k it is entering nearly 300 teams manually...
Kudos.Open ControlsI've got my word document with all the team listed alphabetically (which took 3 hours itself 😆 ) on the left side of my screen, and my excel document on the right side of the screen...
Open ControlsOh dear...
Enjoy...Open ControlsZep - not possible to copy/paste and adjust the formatting?
Open ControlsI'm pretty sure it would ruin my layout...you won't be able to tell the difference from FPL 😉
Open ControlsAlthough if he did all the defenders at once, then mids, then forwards it might work...
Open ControlsI could do that, but I am a bit of a stickler for perfection, so I prefer to order each formation line in terms of price first, then if they are priced the same, I go alphabetically...
It just gives me extra satisfaction doing it this way, so I don't mind spending a little extra time to do it, if it means I can be happy with the final outcome...Open ControlsYeah, I like to do that too if I'm honest. Whatever suits you – you only have to do it once!
Open ControlsFair enough, I can get a bit precious with my formatting too 🙂
Maybe next year Billy can design the spreadsheet so that entrants can input their own teams at the point of submission 😉Open Controls
Ah, so it's YOUR fault 😆
Open ControlsI've saved him HOURS with what I've done, so I think it's worth it 😉
😆Open ControlsCareful ... I will be asking your help for my ticker, next ... 😉
Open Controls- Open Controls
😀
Open Controls
Not really, we already have the pitches set up already with a green background and to a certain size... so when I copy from Word, it makes the back ground white again, which just causes more work...
There might be a way to do it without affecting the formatting, but I don't know how...Open ControlsI have some spare time today if you want some extra manpower...
This is a personal project though so if you'd rather keep it under wraps I quite understand 🙂Open ControlsWow, I really appreciate you offering to help mate... that's awesome...
I do have some time to work on it tonight... but I am committed to getting the update out before the start of the next week, so if I do feel that I could use some extra help later... I'll definitely contact you if you're still available to help...
Thanks a lot, GWM... much obliged...Open ControlsNo problem, can't guarantee I won't get dragged into meetings later on but as it stands my calendar is clear 🙂
Open Controls
"Paste special" -> value only / without formatting ?
Open Controls
I was joking.
I know how much effort is needed. 😉Open Controls
Hey Zep, knees are jerking...
Open ControlsNot at all...
Happy to give Eriksen and Mata time to perform... so let Sterling and Fab rises go...
Looking at Liverpool's fixtures from GW4 onwards, Mata & Eriksen might only have two weeks to impress me..Open ControlsMissed out 🙁
Open ControlsYep, Mata looks like the easiest way for me to get Sterling in within the next few weeks.
Open ControlsLooking back, I can see that I might have made the mistake in overlooking Sterling at his price given that I had this notion (whether it was right or wrong) that the 9m players were exceptional value...
Going with him from the start would have meant Ramsey as my only 9m...
Sometimes price blinds you...Open ControlsI'm completely the same. I tried to convince myself that he'd be cheaper in GW4 after a couple of tough fixtures, and the amount of hype around Mata in preseason made me feel like I couldn't go without him...
I guess at the end of the day we're at fault for overlooking him for GW1, I just hope Mata starts rewarding us soon and Sterling keeps quiet the next two weeks...Open ControlsYeah, that's the plan...
Over the season Sterling will be in my team, but after forming a clear strategy for the first 5-6 weeks, it seems too jerky just to bring him in after he scored in a favourable match, (which was expected, just not desired) with two difficult ones to come...
It might be that he scores in the difficult games, then I got it completely wrong, but I'm gonna hold true to my original plan...Open ControlsIf Mata blanks this weekend then he's pretty much certain to lose 0.3, and a goal for Sterling will make him go up in price, so Sterling could potentially cost more than Mata next week. If this scenario happens then I'll probably cave in and get him in since I'd be getting him in a few weeks after that anyway...
Open Controls
hello zep, everyone selling ramsey 😉
Open ControlsHello, how'd your GW go?
Open ControlsOh, I'm starting a Schurrle craze. GW2 Hazard-->Schurrle(C).
Open Controls64 all out...
Finished on 180k...
Liverpool scoring well has hurt me (and Fab), but I'm hoping the next few weeks will bring it back... since I chose to avoid them because of their next two fixtures...
So kinda hoping they struggle...Open Controls
Who will score more points over the season, Eriksen or Sterling?
Open ControlsREPOST
Who to play for gw2 ?
1. Chambers (what are the chances for Arsenal CS away to everton)
2. Van Aanholt (is utd really rubbish like last year)
3. Hutton (he can make red card with duel with cabella or riviere)Open ControlsCan you play the fixtures too much?
Ive ended up with this for next 2 GWs in first XI
3 Swans - Taylor, soggy, Bony
3 United - Ddg, Mata & Rooney
3 Chelsea - terry, fab & costa
I also have 2 arsenal.
What do you think?
Too many eggs in same baskets or a good place to be?Open Controls3 chelsea is a good place to be.
I think Utd defense isnt a palce to be
PErsonally i only have Siggy from the swans, maybe 3 is overdoing itOpen ControlsGo big or go home!
Similar to doubling up on defences, I suppose. a simple case of higher risk for higher reward on any given game week. If, as is the case with these teams, they have an abundance of good fixtures, it could be a big strategy, but still higher risk.Open ControlsI have same issue I have 3 Swans, 3 Chelsea and 2 UTD. I won't be keeping all 3 Swans but I think it's far easier having 3 players from the top.
Open ControlsI don't think you can go wrong with the Chelsea bunch, and Swansea should work out. United are still unknown, but the potential is there.
Not a terrible place to be.Open ControlsI like it a lot, maybe Utd could be questionable but i think you got the right players there so go ahead
Open ControlsThere's an argument that you restrict your maximum bonus point potential this way
Open ControlsLike it. Doubling or tripling up is the best form of differential IMO
Open ControlsTriendalli will start, Bony to be sold
United are mid table team
Chelsea - GREAT
As Granny will say you are past your best 😆Open Controls
Gameweek 2: Eriksen is love, Eriksen is life. (C)
Open ControlsEriksen > Erik Lamela. good player but not fantasy wise.
Open Controls
Players like him are season keepers for me.. not sure about captaincy though
Open Controlsare you Tottenham in disguise??!!
😉Open Controls
The picture above looks like Chamakh the magician pulling a surprised sanchez out of a hat. Anyway, why dint Puncheon fall? was looking forward to a 5.8 puncheon by saturday.. just the one drop looks likely now
Open ControlsAnother point with the change of pricing formula is that there could potentially be less lost transfers. Siggy for example would have gone up last night under the old rules, but a boat load of transfers would have been lost. Those transfers will now contribute to the next rise, even if the threshold is higher. Of course, transfers will still be lost and the net effect is difficult to model (even with the new formula). Nevertheless, I suspect that price rises will not be use muted as some people fear, although they will be smoothed.
Thoughts?Open ControlsWhat did people think of the Saints defence the last day? 🙂
Did well to hold Liverpool for so long? Or let a weak Liverpool through twice?Open Controls
So there's a guy with an easy run of fixtures, playing in the hole, taking set pieces for a top 10 side and not many ppl talking about him 😯 .. who else gettin JWP this week? if he does well over the next few can see him cementing his place and being VERY underpriced
Open ControlsGot Tadic and Clyne already
Open ControlsHe also plays for a mid table team
Open Controlsi did say top 10. Brilliant run of fixtures, 5 million, place secure for a bit, frees up aguero cash... what's not to like
Open Controls
Tadic seems a bit of a waste with JWP taking most of the set pieces tbh. @5 and if he continues startin i can see him eclipsin tadic value wise
Open ControlsJWP might take a few more corners than Tadic but I'll bet you ten of your best Euros that Tadic will outscore him significantly in every aspect this season.
JWP has potential and good delivery, Tadic has class and is used to being the go-to-guy in a team.Open Controlsif JWP keeps his place for the season i dont see much of a difference between em. However, it's a big IF. secure in the short term but not guaranteed starts in the long term. i love their schedule so much i may go with both soon 🙂
Open ControlsNow both would be very interesting 😉
You're right, JWP offers outstanding value when he plays, I'm just not sure he's going to play all the time and I still expect one or two reinforcements into the teamOpen Controls
So this year the price changes are less volatile then last year. Ok good. Last year even without bothering I got 113m team value which was my record in so many years playing this game. FPL decided to go back to the basics like before 5 years when you needed double and triple transfers NTI in order to get double and triple rise. I thin it is fair..
Open Controls*I think it is fair..
Open Controls
Morning all.
What the crack with Siggy? Why didn't he rise?Open ControlsThanks Diva.
Open Controls
Repost as it was lost at the bottom of the last page:
The simple, all-in-one guide to why Siggy did not go up in price last night:
1. FPL adjusts the required transfers boundaries each year.
2. TotalFPL and FISO don't know the changes and have to monitor early price changes to work out what is happening and what changes they need to make to their formulas.
3. Siggy would have been the first double price rise using the best approximation of last year's formula, but...
4. The formula appears to have changed fairly significantly for the second rise in a week*. We can have ideas about why, but...
5. We won't get a clearer idea until someone does rise .2 in a week and...
6. We won't be absolutely sure until there have been several .2 price rises.
*it's most likely to only apply within a Gameweek, but we can't be 100% certain yet.Open ControlsNot directly related to Siggy but i would like to add-
If price rises are going to require more transfers in and therefore happen less frequently then this season avoiding price drops is even more important than usualOpen ControlsPuncheon and a lot of guys dint fall too.. looks like the threshold for drops has been increased too
Open ControlsThe guys that didn't fall we're all flagged. Zarate dropped on about -107% and he has no flag. It suggests FISO and TotalFPL are within about 7% on unflagged drops.
Also, FISO were not predicting drops for those guys. They appear to be taking flags into account, but TotalFPL has calibrated for that yet it seems.Open Controls
My favourite table which I used a lot last year. One step up from the position on the pitch diagrams as you get a view on time spent in the opposing penalty area, shots, headers etc.
"Action in Box" table for members pasted below. How QPR didnt hammer Hull I will never know...
http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/5313/Open Controlswhere is explosion imminent from ITWT..?
Open Controls
best alternative to bojan??? i think a lot of people are in this boat?
Open ControlsNaismith
Open ControlsReally? Is he going to keep playing? I have him but I expected him to go back to being rotated after GW1.... Albeit playing regularly enough for a rotated player..
Open ControlsAbsolutely this.
Open Controls
Or this.
Open Controls
He will score points vs Hull. Too bad I have to bench him 🙁
Open Controlsthat means keep him
Open Controls
Before the season started my thought's were that Chelsea, Man U & Spurs would be the best defenses to invest in for clean sheets.
That still stands for Chelsea & Spurs but after the 1st game my confidence in Man U has waned some what.
I've already had to shift my Spurs cover as BDavies isn't a guaranteed starter but if Man U don't start looking better by the time I have a spare FT then I imagine I will be doing DDG > Lloris even with Man U's kind fixtures.
Question is would you be confident in playing Lloris in every game? More so than playing DDG every game?Open ControlsWhats the deal with Robinson from Hull?
Is he nailed on?Open ControlsAny Swans out there?
Thinking about Tadic. Looked very sharp at the weekend even though he was pushed out wide. Will he play more central this week (and beyond) - 7.5 is quite an attractive price. Are Swans fans expecting big things from him?Open ControlsI think the consensus is he could be a good option, but also that he plays for Southampton rather than Swansea. 😀
Open ControlsSwans? Soton to line up something like this
---------Wanyama----------Schneiderlin
Tadic------------JWP/Davis-------------Long/JWP
---------------Pelle
Tadic on fewer set pieces and out on the wing unfortunately. they are in the market for a new winger though so that may put him more central laterOpen Controlslol fail
Open Controls
pick two of fabregas, coutinho, mata?
note, i have sterling, costa and rooneyOpen ControlsSiggurdson - Ramsey - Silva - Eriksen - Sterling.
Predict the points these 5 will score this weekend.Open Controls19 - 14 - 2 - 3 - 1
Open ControlsWhat's up with the low points for Man City vs Liverpool game ? I predict it's gonna be a high scoring game.
Open ControlsI just gave the most points to the players I have and the least to the players I'm scared of 😉
I think it could be fairly low scoring actually, neither team fully in their stride..Open ControlsAh! I hope Eriksen will get himself a hattrick just to scare you more. 😆
As long it's not 0-0 draw, I'll be happy. I've no ManC or Liverpool defense.Open Controls
Screwed up the first post so here it goes again!
What did people think of the Saints defence the last day? 🙂
Did well to hold Liverpool for so long? Or let a weak Liverpool through twice?Open ControlsLooked Ok. Clyne has picked up a few more fans on that performance.
Open ControlsThinking of potentially doubling up with Bertrand for their awesome run of fixtures...
Open Controls
Whole Saints defence did well but Yoshida. Overall I would say they did well. Standouts were: Wanyama, Schnederlin and Clyne that game defensively.
Open ControlsCheers double A 7 😀
Open Controls
Who are you guys captaining? Tempted by Sterling but going to be boring and go with Rooney.
Open Controlstrying to justify Ramsey but will likely pick from Fabregas/Rooney
but then again...Open ControlsI think Ramsey might be a step too far this week AR 😛
Open Controlswell he did well for me last week 😀
but yeah you are probably right...he is right back on the radar for Leicester away gw3 after week long rest though 🙂Open ControlsYou and me both man 😎
I'm going to LEND Ramsey's armband to Cesc this weekend I think... Although Tadic, Siggy, Costa and Rooney are all quite tempting..Open Controls
I'm going Costa
Open ControlsPelle, but will end up on Costa or Fabs
Open ControlsChristian Eriksen.
Open Controls
Didn't see the United match at the weekend but the avg position map is rubbish...Did United not fancy the idea of playing on the left side of the pitch ?...and looks like they were tripping up over each other in the middle..just a mess...http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/matches/755307/
Open Controlsunited were pulled all out of shape - think it was the 3-5-2 with no real wing backs that caused the problem
Open ControlsRoscola posted this couple of days ago....gives a better idea of positions than the map...oh and some headache 😉

Do I NEED to make any changes here or do I stick with what I have and let things play out for a couple more game weeks?
Krul/ Foster
Debuchy, Chester, P.Jones, Ward, Shawcross
Young, Ramsey, Nasri, Siggy, Sterling
Rooney, Costa, Bojan
1mil ITB
Was thinking :
A) Nasri >>>> Fabs
B) Jones >> Clyne
C) Young >> JWP/Davies?
Cheers.Open ControlsAll of those moves make sense!
in order of heart-
A
B
C
in order of head
B
C
AOpen ControlsYou only NEED to make changes if any of those players are about to lose money or you are sure they won't play. Some players don't mind losing a bit of value but I think its a big problem at the start of the season.
Personally I'd do A) cos Fabs is better than Nasri and short term fixtures are more favourable.
Also something to be said for saving and having 2FTs next week.Open ControlsMuch appreciated.
Open Controls
Keep Giroud or shift to Bony/Dzeko?
Another option is to downgrade Giroud to Riviere to fund Costa to Aguero(c) for GW 3.Open ControlsSteve Bruce confirms Snodgrass out for 6 months.

Just do Luis to Clyne now to be on the safe side, or better wait at the last price change moment possible?
