The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 6

As the disciplinary wagon rolls back into town, there’s no prize for guessing the headline-maker this week. Looking beyond United’s captain, though, there’s also been some notable additions to this week’s tightrope.

As you’ll probably have read many times since Saturday, this was Wayne Rooney’s first dismissal for Man United in over five years. Those stats are fooling nobody, though, as he’s long been susceptible to the red mist and even the best attempts at media spin would be struggling to quash memories of a similar swipe at Jordon Mutch only 10 months ago that went relatively unpunished. In short, it was coming – and will see United play without their captain for the next three league matches (EVE, wba, CHE), before he returns to the fold for the small matter of the first Manchester derby of the season at the Etihad.

Joining Rooney on the ban list this weekend is Swansea right-back Angel Rangel who, after picking up his first caution for throwing the ball away on the hour mark of a goalless draw at Sunderland, was given his marching orders for a fairly innocuous block on winger Will Buckley just 20 minutes later. With the sanction for two bookings just a single match, Rangel will be missing for the visit of Newcastle before returning for the trip to the Britannia.

While Jonjo Shelvey safely negotiated said Sunderland draw to remain on four yellows, he was joined by two Arsenal players after Saturday evening’s north London derby with Tottenham. First to incur the referee’s wrath and step out to the oohs of the crowd was Jack Wilshere – busy and belligerent in the early exchanges, and victim of a foul by Spurs debutant Ryan Mason a few minutes earlier, Wilshere was soon in the book for a retaliatory lunge and will be ready to start his balancing task.

The triumvirate was then completed late in the match as perhaps the least surprising card of the weekend (if you discount Alex Song’s three-minute wait earlier in the day) was delivered to Calum Chambers – this one for a foul on Aaron Lennon. Chambers has now delivered five bookings already in his fledgling Arsenal career despite only having started seven matches in all competitions – with four of those cards corresponding to his four Premier League starts, the wait for his fifth and the resulting one-match ban may not be a long one.

Finally, tidying up the naughty lists from last week, both Tyler Blackett and Mehdi Abeid have served their one-match sentences and will be available for selection as the Uniteds of Manchester and Newcastle face up to their next matches at home to Everton and away to Swansea respectively.

Maybe Dzeko over Kun, purely based on the fact that Kun is still warming up.

Mate. Have you seen their FPL returns as lone striker?
Lukaku has single handedly trolled thousands of people of the seasons.

Welbeck has missed open goals and mis-controlled many a dozen chances.

Check both their shots, shots on targets and failed attempts. Shocking.

Live Football isn't the be all and end all. People who choose not to attend need to be applauded because they're the ones not being brain washed by the machine.

Spiralling cost within a saturated sport, games and coverage wise, is the blame, not working class spectators who choose not to attend a match on the media pretence that it is un-loyal or embarrassing

Ouch unlucky! I'm pissed too but I have plenty of cash itb (6.8) so I'm sure it affects others more than me at least 🙂

Btw, you might want to reconsider your defense to include a Stoke defender, or Begovic. Go look at the team defending stats, including how many clear chances and saves they've conceded 😉

😯 great job keeping that much itb!

I did consider that last night, Wilson offers great value but I soon realized he doesn't rotate well with Chambers and that is when I'll need him the most! 🙂

In fact, here is another combination I was considering
          - Going for Ivanovic,Moore,Chadli instead of Moreno,PvA,Tadic but I soon realised I was talking nonsense

As of now my WC team remains the same

          Forster (McCarthy)
          Baines Moreno Chambers (PvA Hutton)
          Tadic Siggy Fab Sterling (Boyd)
          Kun Costa Pelle

          (with nothing in the bank)

Although I REALLY like that team, I'm a bit hesitant to lose Clyne because I bought him in at initial price 🙁 🙁 , can't have them all though!

and even then I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal buy another striker to give them both competition.

Best striker combo until January (to go with Costa)?

    a) Ulloa and Aguero

    b) Pelle and Welbeck

Before anyone asks, I cannot afford Aguero and Pelle/Welbeck

got says Pelle and Welbeck mate. Aguero's bound to miss games between now and January and not convinced on Leicester long term, even though i have Ulloa atm I'll prob swap him to Welbz

I say B especially with the CL and soon Christmass rotation. Winter is coming, more money in defense is wise strategy IMO

      I think so too.

The current prices of the combo are as follows:

      a) 18m

      b) 15m

If you have Costa, you will captain him most weeks anyway

    Forster (McCarthy)
    Ivanovic, Moreno, Janmaat, (Pieters, Wisdom)
    ADM Fab Sterling Siggy, (Schneiderlin)
    Costa Pelle Ulloa

      1. Lucy.

We're a different team to the Pochettino side which would press from the top and leave gaps. Koeman's sides are more conservative through the middle, attacking down the flanks. I don't see Spurs as a team that's particularly strong in wide areas so I don't think we'll leak much. But this could all be lies!
