Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Liverpool require two own goals to get the better of QPR, as Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard bag an assist apiece. Eduardo Vargas scores twice for the R’s, Wilfried Bony and Charlie Adam both notch for the second consecutive Gameweek, whilst Victor Moses produces an assist for the fourth league match in succession for Stoke.

Balotelli Fails to Convince
Brendan Rodgers recalled Mario Balotelli to the starting XI in the lone striker role for the QPR clash, but witnessed another wasteful display as his side needed two own goals to beat the basement-dwellers. With frustration amongst the Reds’ faithful now palpable, the situation up front is a far cry from Liverpool’s fluid and threatening forward line of 12 months ago. To compound matters, Rodgers confirmed post-match that Daniel Sturridge is set be sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a calf injury, putting the onus on Balotelli to produce if the Reds are to take full advantage of a kind schedule which see them face Hull, Newcastle, Palace, Stoke and Leicester in the next six.

Sterling’s Still Ticking Over
Despite a multitude of concerns surrounding Raheem Sterling’s fitness after his recent international duties, Liverpool’s starlet played the full 90 minutes at Loftus Road and earned an assist and two bonus points. Whilst the Reds’ forwards may be toiling, the winger has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven starts and sits just two points off the top of the FPL midfield standings. Though Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard threw their hats into the ring with attacking returns yesterday, Sterling still looks the likeliest source of points across those aforementioned fixtures.

Super Sub Vargas Bags A Brace
The Chilean climbed off the bench to score twice for Harry Redknapp’s side in a 12-minute cameo that should see him press for a starting role for QPR’s home encounter with Aston Villa in Gameweek 9. Vargas has now produced two goals, an assist and three bonus points across his last couple of appearances, though at 6.4 still looks too big a punt in a side who have lost four of their last five league outings. The Hoops have five strong fixtures in their next seven (AVL, new, LEI, swa, BUR) that could help turnaround their fortunes, though despite making changes at the back and between the posts, Harry Redknapp’s defence continues to look there for the taking– yesterday’s loss means they have now conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven league matches.

Bony’s Form Looking Up
Yesterday’s penalty strike means the Ivorian now has back-to-back goals to his name, and is finally starting to find his form ahead of an enticing home clash with Leicester next weekend. Available for 8.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Bony struggled in the early stages of this season, but his starting spot now looks secure, and with Swansea not having won since Gameweek 3, his rediscovered eye for goal could prove key if they are to turn their fortunes around. However, the Swans’ following three fixtures after the Foxes meeting (eve, ARS, mci) may well deter investors until Gameweek 13.

Sigurdsson On The Slide
His performance against the Potters saw the playmaker leave the field early after serving up a fourth blank in the last five Gameweeks, as his early-season consistency certainly shows signs of waning. Sigurdsson’s recent international displays, allied with his 10-point haul in Gameweek 7, had many hoping he would be able to produce against Mark Hughes’ men, but a total of just nine successful passes in the final third and no shots registered was indicative of his minimal impact. With his form floundering and so many other midfield options flourishing right now, some may consider looking elsewhere once the Leicester game is out of the way.

Stoke Midfield Hit Their Stride
Victor Moses was again in the points yesterday after controversially winning his side’s first-half penalty. That’s now four assists in the Nigerian’s last four appearances, though, despite a favourable 5.5 price tag, he continues to bubble under with an ownership of just 0.4%. It was Charlie Adam who stepped up to take the spot kick and, though he had dropped deeper to cover for the absence of Glen Whelan, the Scot’s penalty-taking duties have ensured he has now netted in each of his last two outings. With Oussama Assaidi and Jon Walters also in the points for the Potters yesterday, their midfield is starting to show some appeal, though managers should be wary that they face a dire upcoming schedule (sou, WHM, tot, BUR , liv, mun, ARS) with those two home encounters looking the only attractive fixtures right now.

What to do with my itchy trigger fingers? 1 ft, no money

    Krul, Guzan
    Ivan, JT, Dier, Kolarov, Wisdom
    Fab, Sterling, Downing, Schneiderlin, Ziggy
    Aguero, Welbeck, Pelle

Would like: Baines, Walcott in a few weeks with intermediate Ramsey, cash to have the option to change Welbz and Pelle to Costa/Roo and Berahino/Sakho, loose Dier(but fixtures say no).

Rather not: loose Chelsea defender(seems to screw me), don't want Tadic

    Ideas?

Rose > cheaper defender unless you want a benching dilemma most weeks. Hazard > Fabregas. Clyne > Bertrand. That gives you somewhere between 0.9m and 1.4m ish to spend elswhere. Could even do Krul > 4.0 and Foster > Guzan (best long term fixtures) for a little more money.

That would at least get you Welbeck/Pelle

Some interesting stats I found for this week:

    Top Goal Attempts -

    Aguero - 11
    Pelle - 9
    Adam - 8

Top Shots in the box -

    Aguero - 7
    Pelle - 7
    Sakho - 6

    Top Shots on Target

    Aguero - 8
    Pelle - 4
    Ki - 3

    Top Key Passes

    Tadic - 7
    Baines - 6
    Cresswell - 5

Adam and Cresswell are ones I find interesting here, I really think Aguero is in the 'essential' category now also

Looking at Sakho's stats he definitely has an Ulloa feel to him. Decent amount of shots but he isnt going to sustain the shots on target:goal ratio. While he doesnt have to keep up his goal scoring record to be worth it I think Welbeck/Pelle are still well worth the extra.

i got welbz thinking he played for the better team and had more about him with his pace. the way teams defend against arsenal in the PL though renders his pace a little useless.

pelle looks like he could be on the end of a tap in most games

Owner of both here. At the moment I'd say so - but maybe not for much longer. Pelle has the home fixture this weekend but no-one seems to be able to score a hatful v Stoke. A couple of good fixtures to follow up but then a scary run. I'm holding on for now but Pelle is definitely one that'll be a candidate for shipping out before too long.

actually you are right, ulloa scored 5 in his first 5 (scored in 4 of the 5 games)

whilst sakho has scored a goal in all 4 of his 5 starts

Disagree. Ulloa at the point when he was massively in favour was scoring with 47% of his shots - ie not sustainable. Sakho has now increased to around 26% i believe, which is above average but not hugely so.

Shame we can't have a squad of 25. Getting Kun means downgrading a high priced Def and Mid. This might sound daft but a trio of Ivan, Di Maria and Welbeck will score just as well as Chambers, Tadic and Aguero over the course of a few weeks.

don't see the need for a WildCard.

Think Oblak would need replacing (for Moya, need to check if he's still starting regularly). Maybe bring in a big hitter in midfield (Reus/Fabregas)?

I have Clyne, Wanyama and Pellé from Southampton, but I wanna get

yea wanyama seems the best option, but would suggest wait than taking a hit unless you got 2 FTS

      1. hannesdela

        9 years, 6 months ago

I have 2 FTS, but I'd like to make 3 changes.

        1) Wanyama to Obertan
        2) Silva to Tadic
        3) Costa to Aguero

If I wait for the Tadic-transfer, I don't have the funds for getting Aguero..
Worth taking the hit or not?

Also, is Obertan a good idea? He's in the same low price bracket as Wanyama and
has a goal and assist in the last 2 GW's, but don't know if he's good for the long term..

        Thanks for the advice anyway!

    So, I am thinking of a - 8:

    GW 09:

    Fabianski
    N Taylor, Clyne, Ivanovic
    di Maria, Sterling(c), Sigurdsson, Tadic
    Costa, Welbeck, Pellè(vc)

Begovic; Downing, Chambers, Dummett ... 1 FT, 2.3 ITB

    OR:

    Naylor to Baines
    di Maria to Oscar
    Sigurdsson to Eriksen

    GW 09:

    Fabianski
    Baines, Clyne, Ivanovic
    Oscar, Sterling(c), Eriksen, Tadic
    Costa, Welbeck, Pellè(vc)

    Begovic; Downing, Chambers, Dummett ... - 8, 0.1 ITB

    What say you?

Hit two goals in midweek for Iceland. I think over the course of the season he'll be up there at the end. He's explosive (against big teams too), but it means you have to ride out the 2 pointers.

            For me, he's worth it.

Yeah, his stats for Swansea don't look great in that respect, but I think it's down to Swansea's team stats of late.

Swansea have scored 11 goals in 8 games. Siggy has either assisted (6) or scored (1) in 7/11 Swansea goals.

As I said above, I'm also thinking of transferring Siggy out - but I don;t think it's worth a hit given Swansea play LEI next game

Glad to be of assistance, mate.

It's too easy to hit the panic button out of fear of not having the current 'in form' players.

The very first season I was played FPL I was #150 in the world in October and I panicked because I didn't have Thierry Henry who was 14m… so I made 9 transfers (-32pt hit) to reshuffle the pack - a result of not properly considering the implications of losing 32 points. Dropped down the rankings like a sack of sh*t!

I remember it like yesterday. It was October 2006, We were driving back from United v Liverpool match and Arsenal had beaten Reading 4-0… Henry grabbing 2 goals. I decided there and then I *needed* him. Absolutely butchered my team.

The week after, he did nothing. In fact I think it was around the time he had that dodgy tendonitis injury.

It's p*ssed me off for years, #150 in the world, the season that could've been.

Link isn't working but I feel ya. In a much smaller and less dramatic scale, I busted my wildcard last season in GW4 to get RVP and Benteke into my team - they were scoring for fun.

The week i played my wildcard, Walcott RVP and Benteke got crocked and I promptly shot out a -16 point hit to fix it. 16 point hit right after WC! Went downhill from there and took ages to climb to a decent rank...never really did recover though. Horrible.

Had a decent start too...but wanted that extra push up the ranks. Guess lesson learnt there is "not to fix what's not broken". Maybe should apply it to this season too... whether to hold on to Sterling and Sigurdsson personally.

no need to -8, selling siggy and naylor before leicester at home. would rethink and maybe would only sell adm to get aguero upfront. that's only what your team needs imo.

One of Ramsey/Walcott instead of Eriksen/Oscar?

I think the team looks fine as it is with the exception of not having Aguero. I think those transfers may lead to bitter disappointment somewhat.

    B) Just Dzeko -> Welbeck

Cheaper and showed some def form before their tough run. I'd get Baines out of the Eve def, although I am a massive fan of Coleman.

Anyone considering Baines as (C) for next week? 🙂 Vs Burnley.

I got Aguero, but Baines (C) sounds good.

Yes had him this week, Burnley has 4 goals

Tadic at home my other option

but I'd use Aguero if I had him.

I was considering too, but aguero is a differential at the moment. Less people own aguero than Baines.

Worth ditching Sterling to afford Baines? Looking to do Sterling & PvA > Tadic & Baines for free. Would give me:

    Krul
    Baines // Clyne // Wisdom
    AdM // Fab // Siggy // Tad
    Costa // Kun // Pelle

    Elliot // Boyd // Hutton // Moore

    Bank = 0

    Yay or nay?

Can I get your opinion on these transfers, gived that tonight's match doesn't bring any surprises?

    Costa -> Aguero
    Sterling -> Chadli

    Krul / McCarthy
    Baines / Clyne / Wilson / N. Taylor / Hutton
Di Maria / Fabregas / Sterling / Siggy / Boyd
    Costa / Falcao / Welbeck

Probably the best move. Should I drop Fabregas, then? Would give me:

        Fabregas -> Tadic/Eriksen

Maybe, there was some noise on here that fabs will do poorly. He said it in a post match interview 'I will be deeper now with less goals and assists' is what he said.

On paper and form , it's a good move…. but for me Chadli seems to have gone off the boil a little, and Spurs as a team are struggling for goals.

Have you thought a bought Charlie Adam? His goal threat over the last 2 weeks has been great. No other midfielder has had more shots.

Yes, have been looking into him. But can't afford it with Siggy out, I must release either Sterling or Fabregas.

    @Doosra...Costa > Aguero and Ivan > Baines..(-4)

Aguero > Costa for QPR...or keep Aguero if he's still unfit..
