Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Monday

The final match of Gameweek 9 sees QPR attempt to haul themselves off the foot of the Premier League table as Aston Villa roll up to Loftus Road this evening. Both sides are in dire form right now, though – the hosts have picked up a single point from their last five fixtures, whilst Paul Lambert’s side have lost each of their last four without scoring a single goal in the process.

From a Fantasy perspective, only Steven Caulker has caught our attentions for the hosts – the centre-half is one of only three R’s players with an ownership above 3% in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and sits in 7% of sides. Despite the R’s having conceded 17 goals in the last seven, Caulker’s owners will be cautiously optimistic over a clean sheet, though – the visitors have now failed to score in each of their last four league matches.

Up top, the R’s will be buoyed by their late rally at home to Liverpool last time around, though, where Eduardo Vargas emerged from the bench to notch twice in a 3-2 loss.

Paul Lambert will be pinning his hopes on Christian Benteke to make a difference for the visitors. The big Belgian returned to the starting XI last time around and whilst there’s still some doubts over his match sharpness after months on the sidelines, he’s proven time and again he’s more than capable of dishing out punishment to obliging top-flight backlines.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    QPR 0-1 Hull
    QPR 1-0 Sunderland
    QPR 2-2 Stoke
    QPR 2-3 Liverpool
    QPR 2-0 Aston Villa

They were unfortunate to lose against both Hull and Liverpool, and as terrible as they've been away from home, QPR actually aren't that bad a side at Loftus Road.

From GW11-20 their home fixtures are LEI/BUR/WBA/CPA/SWA. Worth not writing them off completely, in any case.

TBF they have a lot of injuries ATM and I think they'll improve long term. Foster/Heaton doesn't appeal at all? Great rotation if Burnley get back to being half decent.

Historically, with one recent exception, Chelsea v QPR at Stamford Bridge is a low scoring game plus with November being Chelsea usual blip month, do you really think this game will be a goal fest or a 1-0 game with lots of missed chances?

Caulker and Hutton to save the GW with 2 clean sheets. The latter by not starting so I get Bruce off the bench. Who knew...

Chelsea (considering how poor their rivals are) can perhaps be another invincible team.
