Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 13 – The Weak

After taking a look at those clubs with kind upcoming schedules yesterday evening, we turn our attentions to those with some tough fixtures to follow. Trouble could be brewing for the Tyne-Wear duo, whilst the Saints’ recent rise to prominence is set to be put to the test.

Sunderland

“frisking

Unbeaten in their last three, the Black Cats will need to retain that recent resilience to navigate a tricky fixture list. Gus Poyet’s side entertain Chelsea, Man City and West Ham in the next four – the three highest scoring away sides in the league so far.

With a trip to Liverpool also to consider in the next four, the Wearsiders will surely remain off Fantasy radars for now. At the back, Costel Pantilimon has earned 14 points in three starts since taking over from Vito Mannone and will at least offer save point potential, whilst Steven Fletcher faces a tough task to continue the form which has brought four goals and an assist in his last six appearances.

Stoke

“frisking

Last weekend’s home defeat to Burnley is hardly ideal preparation for what’s to follow. With his injury-hit defence conceding in each of the last six and key winger Victor Moses out for up to eight weeks, Mark Hughes has his work cut out to steer Stoke up the table over the next few matches.

The Potters will be looking for Bojan to maintain the form that has earned him a goal, assist and four bonus points in the last two matches, but with showdowns against Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton in the next six Gameweeks alone, Hughes is afforded little reason for festive cheer right now.

Newcastle

“frisking

The league’s form side have now won five on the spin and collected four clean sheets over that period but whether they can prevail over an evil fixture schedule is perhaps debatable.

Alan Pardew’s side travel to West Ham, Arsenal and United in the next six, and with Chelsea paying visit, in addition to a derby showdown with Sunderland, it leaves only a Gameweek 14 trip to Burnley looking full of promise. Budget option Paul Dummett and raiding right-back Daryl Janmaat may struggle to serve up the defensive returns, whilst further up the field, the cut-price duo Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez could have their current form curtailed.

Also Be Wary Of…

Southampton
Sitting second in the table after 13 rounds of fixtures, Ronald Koeman’s side now present us with the classic case of form against fixtures. A defence that has conceded a single goal in their last five now squares up to City, Arsenal, United and Everton in the next five – Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand are amongst the four most popular defenders in the Fantasy Premier League game but their owners may find returns slowing over this period, with many looking for a way out. The erratic Dusan Tadic, with eight blanks in 12 appearances, and the off-form Graziano Pelle – without a shot on target in the last four and just one booking shy of a ban – may well be set for an exodus as the returns dry up.

Hull
The short-term schedule is unrelenting on Steve Bruce’s out-of-sorts side, with Hull travelling to United, Everton and Chelsea in the next four Gameweeks. With just one goal and a single point to their name over the last four, the Tigers will need to dig deep to get anything from those matches – Bruce will be hoping the fit-again pair Nikica Jelavic and Michael Dawson can make a difference at both ends of the pitch but the KC pickings look slim to none right now.

Crystal Palace
Victories against the likes of Everton and Liverpool show that, on their day, Neil Warnock’s side can mix it with the best of them. Palace will need to carry on from the form that swept aside the Reds last Sunday, though, as they now face trips to Swansea, Spurs and City, in addition to the visit of Southampton over the next six. Home encounters with Villa and Stoke still look promising for key man Yannick Bolasie, whilst Mile Jedinak’s dead-ball duties continue to keep the Eagles skipper in contention as a valid budget option.

Should we be considering the ox as a chadli or downing (and in my case, Moses) replacement? Here's the for case...

In arsenal's last ten games in all competitions the ox has played an average of 72 minutes per game. That falls to 57 across the whole season, but arsenal have more injuries now and he is in great form.

In his time on the pitch (in the league) his minutes per shot is better than chadli (though admittedly more of chadlis are in the box) and his minutes per chance created is better than siggy. Both these players are more expensive and are pretty much best in class at that price range I think (downing is better than siggy but is now crocked).

I can only see two front fours that do not involve the ox. They are

    A) Giroud; Sanchez, Cazorla, Welbeck
    B) Giroud/Welbeck; Sanchez, Cazorla, Walcott

I'm not concerned about A because Welbeck rarely (if ever?) plays on the right. If you're going to play him on the wing, surely on the left so he can cut in?

B concerns me but Walcott still seems some way away from the starting 11. And the ox could start in place of Cazorla. Wenger has always said he sees him as a central player one day.

In terms of current form, here is what Wenger has to say:

"I'm very pleased with the way he is developing as a player. I've said that many times to my staff recently. He is becoming mature, responsible and still has the initiative in the game. He is developing into a real team player who is still able to express his talent."

Arsenal's fixtures are OK over the next six: wba, SOT, sto, NEW, liv, QPR

Keen to get the community's thoughts. Am I too quickly dismissing the threat of Walcott? Will repost this a couple times today to see if I can get a discussion going.

    Cheers

Nice post. I was thinking about this too.

I haven't watched Arsenal play much this season, but whenever I have, Ox has looked extra special. We have top remember that he's only 21, so likely to be rotated anyway once the injuries have cleared up.

I dont really believe this whole get in before the points thing. I generally want proof they can deliver beforehand. I dont mind being a week late to the party 😉 and if theyre only good for one haul and then a string of 1s and 2s well then theres plenty of other options 😆 that being said Cahdli out may force my hand and the Ox looks as good as any

Fair enough. His stats imply he should be scoring or assisting at least once every three games. He's certainly underperforming at the moment. I'm hoping that will turn. And yes, my hand is being forced as I have chadli, downing and Moses. Those are the three best in the 5-7 bracket imo and they're all injured 🙁

He has. But I thought he was over achieving in the first few games of the season. A ridiculous proportion of his chances created were being converted. In retrospect I should never have sold him for downing, but it seemed to make sense at the time.

5 shots in the box in last 4 matches and 3 shots on target. I dont think those stats are particulary good. The assist value might be worthwhile, but he really needs to be taking a few more shots for my liking really.

That's still not bad for a 6.4 midfielder. 1.25 shots in the box per game is more than cesc, Oscar, and similar to di maria.

Thing is I dont think the stats are that great, they're OK assist wise and not that great shot wise (i like most of Doos' tables but i dont like that one, theres not a great correlation with actual FPL points value imo).

Anyway, with the extended Walcott absence it might be worth a gamble, but its still a gamble (but not a terrible one)

I was at the match last night and Ox was very involved and looked like he really wanted to score as well (was his 100th Arsenal match last night too).

Before the match all the forwards lined up for shots outside the box at Martinez. Poldolski was the only one to score but Ox stayed longer than anyone else. Seems to be working hard on his shooting.

I'd say if he gets the minutes then its only a matter of time before he starts scoring FPL points.

Compared Cazorla with Oxlade last week, and I know they're not comparable in cost but I went with Cazorla as (I thought) he'd be more certain of starts with Giroud returning. Oxlade isn't great at finishing and he's not exactly cheap at 6.4m, but he's an exciting player to watch. I'm not sure of his fantasy returns at the minute.

While Cazorla didn't start at the weekend (maybe rested for Dortmund? And his form has been off), I think Giroud or a striker that holds up the ball better suits him picking up the ball in pockets in front of the defence. He assisted both goals vs Dortmund last night. Picked him over Oscar after using the comparison tool so hope he comes good!

Yeah, good shout on Cazorla. He seems fairly nailed on. He's another I've considered, but the price difference between him and ox is swaying me.

With Wilshire and ozil out, you'd think Caz will start every game. Right?

Well, I thought that last week and he's promptly on the bench vs United.. not great. However, with Wilshere and Arteta now injured, I think we'll see a central midfield 3 of Ramsey - Flamini - Cazorla. Ideally, Wenger will play them in a 4-2-3-1 with Cazorla in the hole but it could quite easily be a 4-1-2-2-1 with Flamini holding, although Wenger received a lot of flack in the way Arsenal vacated the midfield vs United.

I wouldn't like to call it re the formation but yeah, can see Cazorla being nailed on with those injuries.

I probably would with that lot.
Who knows if this week is a good week to WC though. Perhaps the midweek round may be better with 14 teamsheets.

Bego gives u save points at least
U have 3 playing def still with 3 home games
Not sure abt brady as 4th mid but tadic can become siggy
Sakho if fit is a gd option

I would just do tadic-> siggy

General thoughts going into this GW, nothing exciting but it's 8am!

Rooney (c) + ADM is a for sure a big differential going into this weekend,

    Feeling quietly confident

Hazard/Fab/Aguero/Sanchez also to bring home the bacon

Only worries are a lack of Siggy/Costa who are rising in price and both with a huge ownership

    1. SuperMario
      • 14 Years

looking at a WC here and Rooney over Costa was tempting but can see RVP / Falcao / ADM all stealing his points!

Costa can explode any week really

It's still not a bad time to buy Siggy, despite his waning stats. On is a good, slightly cheaper option and then Hendo even cheaper. They'll all chip in with a few points, if rarely spectacular - and are all disposable if a bandwagon comes along.

    DDG -- Hamer

    Rangel -- Trippier -- Caulker -- Cissokho -- Wisdom

    Hazard -- Sanchez -- Montero -- Brady -- Sterling

    Aguero -- Ings -- Rooney

Here, I think I can do better than Sanchez..specially considering his price..Maybe Sanchez --> Eriksen and Ings to a better Striker...

Montero is a Punt...and Sterling will perform better..or I can keep Ox till Sterling gives 1 good performance...
