Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 16 – The Weak

After taking a look at those teams with Strong fixtures to follow over the next four-to-six Gameweeks, we now assess those with tougher upcoming schedules. North east pair Sunderland and Newcastle face some testing times, whilst bottom two Burnley and Leicester also have little reason for festive cheer.

Newcastle

“frisking

The Magpies proved their mettle by putting an end to Chelsea’s unbeaten run last Saturday, but must now navigate a horrendous next six if they are to further their cause. Alan Pardew’s men face a tricky encounter with Everton at St James’ Park, as well as three of the toughest away trips around as they make their way to Arsenal, United and Chelsea.

With injury and suspension hitting hard, the Magpies are likely to struggle to rediscover the defensive resilience shown between Gameweeks 8-12 anytime soon, meaning that Daryl Janmaat will need to rely on his attacking raids down the right to earn his owners further returns. Further forward, those eyeing up striker Papiss Cisse after his weekend brace are advised to hold off for now whilst his minutes, and the schedule, look uncertain.

Southampton

“frisking

The Saints are struggling under the strain of expectation after their early season form, and the load could yet increase across the Christmas period. A trip to Burnley is next on the agenda and will at least afford them some respite, but beyond that things still looks unmistakably bleak – Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal make their way to St Mary’s in their next three home encounters, with a visit to Old Trafford lying in wait beyond that.

Without a clean sheet in their last four, owners of Ryan Bertrand and Nathaniel Clyne will have been weighing up an exit route, and that strategy is unlikely to change bearing in mind their imminent schedule. Graziano Pelle, meanwhile, found his scoring boots for the first time in seven appearances against United on Monday, but that return to form could be quickly curtailed, and the Italian will still be hard-tasked to reclaim the plethora of owners he has lost over recent weeks.

Stoke

“frisking

Saturday’s triumphant win over Arsenal brought a three-match losing streak to a close for the Potters, and a trip to Crystal Palace this weekend will offer them a chance to build momentum. That is sure to come in handy, however, as the fixtures then take a severe turn for the worse for Mark Hughes’ side, who meet Chelsea and Everton in their next two and also face consecutive match-ups with United and Arsenal in Gameweeks 20 and 21.

It would be fair to say that Bojan has finally found his feet at the Brittania, and the former Barcelona starlet – alongside fellow striker Peter Crouch – turned in a great advertisement for their budget forward services against the Gunners. However, both are now sure to be tested against some of the league’s tightest defences in the coming weeks, whilst the chances of the Potters’ own rearguard managing their first shutout since Gameweek 6 looks doubtful. Jon Walters’ recent renaissance – with three goals in four – may struggle to continue over that spell.

Also Be Wary Of…

Arsenal
The Gunners may have underlined their potential in last night’s mauling of Galatasaray, but managers should be cautious before jumping on board without a look at their next five fixtures, which contain three tricky away encounters at Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton. Owners of the suspended Calum Chambers will be even more tempted by the idea of getting rid of the young defender as Mathieu Debuchy returns to action, whilst the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck will have to be at their best for the Gunners to prosper over the festive spell.

Burnley
A 2-0 loss to QPR will have come as a bitter blow to Sean Dyche’s men, who had finally strung together a series of results prior to Saturday’s bottom of the table scrap. A potentially spirit-wrecking next four now awaits the Clarets, who visit Spurs and Man City on either side of home clashes with Southampton and Liverpool. With Christmas rotation on the cards, owners of George Boyd may be forced to call upon his services across those fixtures, though he is likely to struggle to replicate his timely Gameweek 14 strike. Up top, Danny Ings has fetched returns in three of his last four outings but his worth as a budget asset looks set for a stiff test.

Leicester
The Foxes are without a win since Gameweek 5, and their chances of turning that dire form around look slim over the upcoming schedule. Nigel Pearson’s side face a trip to West Ham sandwiched in between two home meetings with Man City and Spurs in their next three, and whilst Leonardo Ulloa has showed glimpses of his early season with a goal and two assists in his last three, the striker – who is expected to recover from a calf knock – will have his work cut out to maintain that form in the lead up to Christmas.

New experts in the crowd, so I'll ask again. Advice appreciated 🙂

What GK solution do you prefer?

I have 1FT, 2.0itb, and Elliot is my 2nd GK.
My 5 def's are: eve che avl wba qpr so there are no double-ups either way.

    A) Fabianski>Hart
+ would play Hart every fixture until GW23 with good fixtures (lei CPL wba BUR SUN eve ARS che).
    + GK's combined cost 10.0m, though I don't mind spending a little extra on a GK
+ I can potentially use a FT to get a GK with better fixtures in GW21, so use Jan WC early.
    - No backup in case of injury/suspension/fixture cancellation
    - Hart might get rested for Caballero, leaving me without a GK

    B) Elliot>Pantilimon
+ rotating Fab/Pant to get these fixtures (WHM hul HUL/AVL avl qpr WHM tot BUR).
    + GK's combined cost 9.5m, so 0.5 cheaper.
+ provides cover for injury or rotation
+ If I wait until Jan WC to get this duo they will be 0.2-0.4 more expensive, so getting them now is cheaper.
    - potentially missing out on CS's by choosing the wrong GK in given GW
    - Pantilimon price rise incoming (74%). I have earned 0.1 of Fabianski's price rise already and would earn 0.1 on the next rise.

    Thanks! 😀

No, my team is pretty much set apart from the GK issue, as I had 2FT's this week (used one on Aguero>Costa)

          Fab Elliot
          Terry baines caulker hutton wisdom

      B for me
If you want City coverage for the nice run they've got coming up, I'd go for a defender, that way you open yourself up to some attacking returns too.

Panty looks to have taken over at No.1 - and Sunderland seem to be the king of draws right now. If I wasn't looking at taking an -8 this week I'd think of changing my keeper to Pants.

      1. rickardinho
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

I'm caught between both. Pants has been good, but i can't see a City def who's nailed on that i like (ie. there's none), so Hart is my best way into that City defense

Pick a pair for the season and stick with them. Shouldn't waste money and FTs on goalkeepers. They will either score you 2pts, 6pts or very rarely 10pts. Not much chance above that. .

Get Hart with cheap back-up or go Fab/Pants. Although with Chelsea, Arsenal or City GKs means that's money and a spot you can't have outfield where more points are likely to come from.

I got Forster and Heaton early. So far doing better than expected.

      1. rickardinho
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

Nice choice of Forster and Heaton, great rotation that is.

Unfortunately I chose Bego-Krul to start with and that worked out badly. I changed on my WC but now have problems there again, seems I can't get it right!

Would like Pants-Fab for the season, but Hart's fixtures are ever so tempting and I have the cash...

If Zaba or Clichy were nailed on I'd get them, but they're not 100% so i'm skeptical even though they're probably good picks.

        1. Lazarus Star
          • 10 Years

Get Hart and a decent sub and keep him in all season. Hart will be in top 3 keepers at end of season I reckon.

Fab / Pants will offer you better options over the season though for rotation but bad performance by one and you'll be tinkering again.

GKs you need to play the long game. A keeper is only as good as his defence.

Yeah I found that out the hard way so far... i've missed 3-5 CS's by rotating krul/bego and then elliot/fab for 2 gw's. utter meeeeh... i think i even scored less overall than if i had just played begovic all season :/

I think Forster is the GK to choose on the Jan WC though tbh, so my decision is really only based on the next 8 GW's

    Which big hitter to get
    A: azpi
B: zaba (already have clichy)..The thinking is I can offload clichy next gw if rotation becomes too much with kolorav
    C: Terry

Surprised to see azpi over Terry.

      - Terry slightly more nailed on I think..although very marginally
      - Terry has been under performing for goals so am expecting him to come up with a few
      - luis poses greater threat to azpi then zouma does to Terry
      - baps def fav azpi though
      - 0.2m diff

Zab is playing well, yes. But is it a risk to get him?
Rotation with Sagna over xmas is a worry, surely !!

Him and Clichy will both be rotated, most likely.

Zab with Sagna, Clichy with Kolarov.

    Guys,

I’ve used my FT on Aguero to Rooney, but feeling uncomfortable without any City players in my team.
Is it worth getting in a midfielder for a hit?

I can’t afford Yaya without major team surgery, but I could slot in Silva or Nasri easily enough. Long term fan of both; my first choice would normally be Silva, but wondering if he needs a few games to get going (didn’t see the match last night).

    What do you think?

Silva is a good pick, but might not start this weekend.

Depending on your defence, Zab may be a better choice for City coverage,

Was thinking of getting Zaba in for next GW.

Def is Ivan, Baines, Clyne, Yun, Duff

Will be able to afford Clyne to Zaba if I bring Nasri in this week, but not if I bring in Silva!

If Baines doesn't sort his life out soon, I could get Zaba in for him....

I think Silva will get a cameo this week, with Nasri assured to start. Out of the two, I'm with you, I'd go for Silva. Nasri wouldn't be a bad punt this week

Yeah, I think Nasri might be good for the next few GWs, then can upgrade to Silva if required.

    Green (macarthy)
    CHAMBERS Terry Wisdom (DUFF, Dummett)
    FABREGAS Sanchez Downing Hazard (Bridcutt)
    AGUERO Bony Benteke

Should I be considering anything other than Costa and Yaya for Ageuro and Fab?

Yaya is solid, however Rooney may be a good differential.

    Foster
    Baines/Hutton/Rangel

    Costa/Bony/Lukaku

    Gilks/Marney/Cameron/Dummett

    Anything worth a hit?

ahh go on.. I'll repost it..

What do you reckon to this?

Chambers, Duff, Fab, Kun > Yun, Zaba, Haz, Rooney or Dzeko

    For -8

Looks good to me. Personally go with rooney at moment unti Dzeko shows a bit more form and definatly nailed on, was awful last night

Bench Fab & Chambers (only out for 1 game)
      Transfer Kun to Rooney
Duff is bench fodder so not worth taking a hit forgiven other needs.

Are you joking? He could t hit a barn door in a very important game, didn't look like scoring, looked badly out of form and hasn't scored for something like ten games....he missed a sitter from about a metre out!

He was awful!!! City midfield contributed the most, Nasri: Goal and Assist and also Zabaletta scored a goal.....I'd get a City midfielder and if Dzeko picks up form you can easily get him in but he was shockingly bad last night. He may not even start this weekend.

My front line of rooney austin kane looks so weak!!

Although mid is yaya hazard eriksen Sanchez siggy 🙂

Worth downgrading eriksen to 5m cheapie n kane to Dzeko?

I just think that kane at 5m is a much better bench fodder then a 5m mid

I totally agree. i must cause I have the same team bar Downing/Erikseen.
I may change Rooney rather than Austin and Kane and I can go for City, Chelsea defenders for the run to January.
