Mondogoal GW27 – Interview With FFS Champion & £30k Contender

Last week’s exclusive Mondogoal Fantasy Football Scout League saw ChrisDAFC clinch top spot and seal qualification to the huge £30k Mondogoal World Championship. Chris saw off Scott964 at the summit of our contest, with contributions from Victor Moses and David Silva key to his victory.

Having won previous qualification contests, Chris now has three entries in Mondogoal’s £30,000 World Championship tournament, with a chance to win the £10,000 top prize on the final day of the season.

There’s still time to book your place. Mondogoal are running six more qualifying contests for this weekend’s fixtures, with £2, £10 and £50 games on offer – all offering a place in the £30k Championship final to their winners.

If you’re looking for tips on forming your lineup, look no further than our interview with ChrisDAFC below and our own squad selection for Gameweek 27.

Interview with ChrisDAFC

FFS: Congratulations on winning the FFS League – we noticed that Victor Moses did the business for you – what was the thinking behind that inspired move?
ChrisDAFC: I remembered his form from earlier in the season before he got injured and, needing a few budget players, I thought he was worth the punt against a poor Villa side.

FFS: We also noted that you blocked out your defence with four Sunderland players – do you regularly pick a team to provide the majority of your rearguard?
ChrisDAFC: For the competitions where there is only one prize, I feel it is advantageous to need only one team to pick up a clean sheet – however when you get it wrong, it really sets the team back!

FFS: You went with 3-4-3 at the weekend – what formation do you prefer when compiling your Mondogoal lineup and why?
ChrisDAFC: I favour the attacking formations, 3-5-2 and 3-4-3, as I find it a lot more fun to back attacking players than having to hope that a player keeps clean sheets.

FFS: How do you normally allocate your spending? Do you fetch in your “must-haves” each week and build around them?
ChrisDAFC: Generally I have a couple of big hitters and then try and find a bargain pick or two to ensure I have the budget.

FFS: Mondogoal’s scoring is quite different to the regular Fantasy Football ruleset – what aspect of the system do you feel is the most vital to master when it comes to deciding team selection?
ChrisDAFC: I feel that ensuring you don’t pick players who concede fouls or pick up yellow cards is crucial to success. Also with the shots on target points, it pays to pick players who are ‘shot-happy’ even if it isn’t to the benefit of their team in the real matches.

FFS: Do you studay any statistical data to help guide your Mondogoal selections?
ChrisDAFC: I generally look at the passes a player makes and the shots on target to help guide me find the good cheap players.

FFS: Do you always ensure you react to team sheets prior to kick-off? If so, how do you best prepare for last-minute changes?
ChrisDAFC: When possible, I check on any team sheets which can be seen before the deadline to make sure that I have the best chance of fielding 11 players, as once one player doesn’t start in your team it greatly sets you back. I generally just make sure that I know which players I may have to alter and then check the team sheets for those specific players.

FFS: You’ve now got three entries in the Mondogoal £30k World Championship. Presumably you’re aiming for more – you must already fancy your chances?
ChrisDAFC: I’m definitely looking forward to the championship weekend with great optimism; however, as Mondogoal have so many competitions with entries to this tournament as the prize, I’m expecting a very fierce battle.

We wish Chris good luck as he flies the flag for the FFS community in the Mondogoal World Championship.

FF Scout Gameweek 27 Picks

mg

With the talent pool limited by Chelsea and Tottenham’s absence, this is a week where we can perhaps allow ourselves some risks.

We’ve shifted to the 3-4-3 and put emphasis on Stoke winning with a clean sheet against Hull at the Britannia, whilst banking on shut-outs for Southampton and Arsenal at home to Everton.

Inspired by ChrisDAFC’s gamble on Victor Moses, we’ve drafted in the much-maligned Fantasy target for our Mondogoal squad, teaming him with a cast of shot-happy midfield options that include Jason Puncheon and the tardy Sadio Mane. Wayne Routledge is our gamble here –he was thrown forward in support of Bafétimbi Gomis in the win over United and we fancy the Swans at Burnley this weekend. Both Routledge and Gomis earn a place in our lineup – with the Clarets’ weakness in the air a factor in the selection of the big French striker.

We’ve pulled few punches elsewhere up front – we’re banking on Wayne Rooney remaining unshackled up front against Sunderland, while City’s desire to close the gap on Chelsea warrants the hefty outlay on Sergio Aguero for Sunday’s clash at Anfield.

Of course, our XI is subject to change: we’ll have access to the teamsheet for the early kick-off at the Britannia prior to the Mondogoal deadline, which may well find us indulging in last minute tinkering.

Get you lineup together and in the hat to take us on. You’ll find the FFS squad in the £2 qualifying contests, whilst we’ve also got an entry in the £5 contest offering a £1000 prize pot. Head on over to Mondogoal to get involved.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Need some advice gents. Reasonably screwed and wont get 11 this week.

    Pant
    Clyne PVA Zouma Wisdom Baird
    Silva ADM Walcott Hazard Albrigton
    Aguero Kane ideye

not sure what transfers to make...
-thinking hazard and wisdom->sanchez and lescott (only lose 0.1 million on hazard)
    -or maybe just wisdom->lescott...

either way its a struggle to hopefully get 10 playing.

I just need a cheap Mid for this week to fill Oscar's place, I think i will start playing 3-4-3 after this GW and Mane will probably will be on the bench.
So do you think Mane is the best option for that right now?

Yeah I still rate him a lot higher than the others. Though in a way I'm contradicting myself because I've also been saying I expect that game to be 0-0. He would certainly do for the bench though

    *LONG POST*

As Tottenham's DGW is approaching I have had a look at how Eriksen and Tottenham have coped with two games within a few days. Hopefully some of you find this helpful.

    EUROPA LEAGUE:
21.08.14 AEL Limassol 1-2 Tottenham - NOT IN SQUAD.
    24.08.14 Tottenham 4-0 QPR - 90 min played - 0 goals, 0 assists.

28.08.14 Tottenham 3-0 AEL Limassol - NOT IN SQUAD
    31.08.14 Tottenham 0-3 Liverpool - OFF 59 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

    18.09.14 FK Partizan 0-0 Tottenham - BENCH.
    21.09.14 Tottenham 0-1 West Bromwich - 90 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

02.10.14 Tottenham 1-1 Besiktas - NOT IN SQUAD.
    05.10.14 Tottenham 1-0 Southampton - OFF 82 min - 1 goal, 0 assists.

    23.10.14 Tottenham 5-1 Asteras Tripolis - ON 76 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.
    26.10.14 Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle - 90 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

    06.11.14 Asteras Tripolis 1-2 Tottenham - OFF 63 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.
    09.11.14 Tottenham 1-2 Stoke - OFF 46 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

27.11.14 Tottenham 1-0 FK Partizan - ON BENCH.
    30.11.14 Tottenham 2-1 Everton - 90 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

11.12.14 Besiktas 1-0 Tottenham - NOT IN SQUAD.
    14.12.14 Swansea 1-2 Tottenham - 90 min - 1 goal, 1 assist.

    19.02.14 Tottenham 1-1 Fiorentina - 90 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.
    22.02.14 Tottenham 2-2 West Ham - ON 46 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

    FA CUP:
14.01.15 Tottenham 4-2 Burnley - NOT IN SQUAD.
    17.01.15 Tottenham 2-1 Sunderland - 90 min - 1 goal, 0 assists.

    LEAGUE CUP:
    24.09.14 Tottenham 3-1 Nottingham Forest - BENCH.
    27.09.14 Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham - OFF 62 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

    17.12.14 Tottenahm 4-0 Newcastle - 90 min - 0 goals, 3 assists.
    20.12.14 Tottenham 2-1 Burnley - 90 min - 0 goals, 0 assists.

    28.01.15 Sheffield Utd 2-2 Tottenham - 90 min - 2 goals, 0 assists.
    31.01.15 West Bromwich 0-3 Tottenham - 90 min - 1 goal, 0 assists.

As you can see, Eriksen rarely gets 180 minutes within a few days. This doesn't look promising for the upcoming DGW - I wouldn't be surprised to see him benched against either Swansea or QPR, assuming he starts the League Cup Final.
If he was to start the two Premier League games, then his record doesn't look to be great when he's playing two games within a few days - he has only performed well in one occasion. However, it is difficult to judge him, as he rarely plays 2 x 90 minutes in a matter of days.
This has made me unsure about whether to get him in for the DGW or not, especially since he's off-form now as well. Tottenham doesn't look to have a habit of winning two games in quick succession either.
Let me know what you think, and what are your reasons for bringing him in? Is it just because he's got those two games, or is it because you actually fancy him to do well in both games?

Think I'll be doing the same. He looks very unlikely to start both games (assuming he starts cup final), and I'm not sure he will deliver either. Getting him in for a hit doesn't really seem worth it, and especially not when I'm selling someone who's on penalties.

Interesting. Still haven't decided whether to bring him or Silva in for ADM in GW28, maybe Silva is the safer option.

So reviewed some of the stats and Erikson has definitely played in back to back games in the last couple months. Whoscored.com.

I was on the fence but with 1 FT and Caz not looking so hot lately it was a reasonable differential for me.

When the Chelsea DGW eventually comes around (GW34) will Chelsea have already won the league? and therefore be more likely to rest players and therefore could this be the only proper DGW we get this season?

      May as well go Dawson.

Dawson seems to have more threat in set-pieces.
At least Brunt and Morrison/Gardner seemed to be making an effort to pick him on corners and indirect fks.

      PVA its in contention.
Poyet said that if MUN plays a diamond formation, then he is needed.

I think their are going for a 3-5-2 at Old Trafford.
PVA and Antoine on the wings.

It was the attack not a long time ago. Now they have austin ings and kane. And theres always danny. But they got Terry out for some controversy, so they can suck.

He has a bit of competition though, both from other players and from LVG's tinkerings with formation..I hope he doesn't become one of those players that just drift into the squad...it'd be a shame, it happens too often at big clubs.

Big NO. Definitely don't waste a FT on a sideways move like McAuley --> Dawson in a week like this.
