The ScoutCast – Episode 157 – Hipsters

Three middle-aged beards collide to talk Fantasy Football. Hipsters? Sadly, as Jonty so rightly points out, we bear a closer resemblance to a trio of David Brents.

A clean-shaven Ryan joins us to complete the quartet and boost the credibility: the Kiwi contributor wakes fresh and ready for action to mull over the Gameweek gone, the week’s transfer bandwagons and to look forward to the weekend’s action.

Around those regulars, we brace ourselves for the latest bout of quizzing from you, the community. We tackle the potential of the Palace form guys and the unlikely contribution from Hull and Leicester, as we cast an early eye on the looming double Gameweek.

The ScoutCast was beamed out live on Wednesday via a Google Hangout and you can view the full video recording on the player below.

Alternatively, for the polished, low-fat audio version can be found via this link or the first player.

Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and Google Plus page to keep informed of when future ScoutCast hit the screen.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Bellerin + Cazorla to

    A) Terry + Cambiasso (or 6.8)
    or
    B) Duff + Fabregas

    I also have:
    Myhill
    Ivanovic Bertrand
    Boyd Eriksen Silva Hazard
    Kane Aguero

    Can't see why people want to invest in Fabregas for the DGW, there are better options like Sterling IMO, thoughts?

      Last 3 gameweeks were yummy for Fabregas owners, and if he is back in that kind of form, then dandy. The front end of the season and his time at Arsenal show him to be a good asset overall. Certainly, for the DGW he is worth considering.

    Would you rather
    A) Swap Foster for Schmeichel this week and bench Myhill(SWA and DGW and averages more than 1 save point a game)
    B) Swap Bellerin for Schlupp this week(bench one of Terry/Fonte/Toby) and get Mignolet for Foster next week

    Got an extra FT so got to use it and got a good attack for this week so cant waste it there

    Have 2 FT. Which two to choose:

    a) Naughton -> Baines
    b) Lescott -> Coleman
    c) Sanchez -> Toure
    d) Sanchez -> Bolasie
    e) Austin -> Murray
    f) Austin -> Lukaku
    g) Austin -> Vardy

    WC next GW.

    Imagine moaning about the nominees in POTY. It's voted by players, you know, those who actually play against the players nominated.

      They vote from the choices given, they don't vote for who gets nominated surely? 😕

      Its also not really a good reflection of the whole season though, its a small window at short period earlier in the season.

      Also I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the players don't necessarily vote for the player they think is the best, more likely there would be tactical voting for team mates etc. The same can be seen with managers and players voting for the Balon D'Or

      1. goriuanx
        • 13 Years

        Theres no clear guidelines behind the voting i.e goals stats etc. I do agree about tactical voting though

          I just think in this day of technology I don't understand why they base it off half a season as everything is done on paper?! Leave it until a week before with an online process (they have agents that can explain the big confusing keyboard and mouse to them) and we would get a better representation.

          I think every player has right to vote for who they want but not sure that translates to who is the best. I can't really imagine anyone who voted for Coutinho honestly telling me Silva has not been better this season.

    Why is Vardy the preference over Nugent for DGW?

    1. Ruth_NZ
      • 9 Years

      If it's for any other reason than price it makes no sense to me.

      Nugent is in equally good form and on pens. If I wanted a Leicester forward he'd be my pick.

        I do have the option of a Toby-Clyne-Terry defence so really Baines is just pushing Toby to the bench

      B is for Baines not Bolaise

      B. Eriksen is up against a weak defence and won't drop value again. Baines (or Coleman) have attacking prospects as well as clean sheet prospects.

    Any WC holders at least considering Ibe for the DGW?
    He would make a great fifth mid and could bench smn like Ramsey or Giroud for the GW.
    Played a lot before his injury and just recovered to immediately start ahead of the likes of Markovic as a right strikter in a 443.
    If he was only taken of because of fatigue, he could be good for 120-160 mins in the DGW

    How did he look?
    Did he play well?

      No.

      Think about it - a 0-0 would be acceptable for both sides. Usually there are goals in Chelsea-United games but I expect this one to be tight. Paddy Power give Chelsea a 40% chance of a clean sheet and United a 25% chance.

      If Southampton away at Stoke were a nailed on clean sheet it might be worth it. But it really isn't.

      I'd agree that 50% is probably a good estimate. Really is shaping up to be risky, and I'm about to eat 4 points to get him out. Sometimes in life, you just have to cut your losses and get on with it. Might be time for me, and other owners, to do so.

    So does anyone know who's leading the line for Swansea this week, looking for a big differential one week punt and given Leicesters flat out attack I reckon this could be worth investing in. Is Emnes the automatic choice or could Siggy or even Shelvey be pushed up, I remember Shelvey playing the role for L-Pool in cup competitions in years gone by, any advice gladly appreciated!

    They should scrap the Europa League. It's sad how teams at this stage of this season around 5th-7th can look at losing as a positive.

    1. Ruth_NZ
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

      That's a very narrow view.

      The reason PL teams are reluctant about it is because (a) PL revenues dwarf what can be made from the Europa League (unless you reach at least the semi-finals), and (b) the CL is a financial holy grail and the 2nd rank teams (Liverpool, Spurs) think that Europa League puts them at a disadvantage for making the top 4.

      It's not the same elsewhere in Europe where domestic TV revenues are nowhere near as high and are sometimes dominated by individual clubs selling their own rights as in Spain. 18-team leagues are also the general rule and there is usually only one domestic cup so clubs have less games. In that situation the Europa League is a welcome addition to a club's revenues and prestige.

      Seeing the Europa League is for clubs across all of Europe it seems a bit xenophobic to want to scrap it just because it doesn't suit English teams.

    is there no other mad man here considering Schmeichel as his go to keeper for the season? Has a lot of saves in his locker and there's has good fixtures on paper. Wont keep CS's but atleast you wont feel bad playing him looking at a blue home fixture next to him in the ticker 😆
