Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

I have to take issue with this comment in the treatment room article. Saying the tests went well is not the same as saying he was given the all clear

    Repost (bottom of page):

Do you think any of these moves are worth -4?

    A) Bertrand - Moreno
    B) Silva - Henderson/Coutinho
    C) PVA - Huth
    D) Remy - Vardy (which would make other Chelsea transfers possible for another -4)

Currently I'm thinking no to all of them

Really? I'd say yes to a b and c. pending confirmation on Silva of course.

That was assuming Silva is fit. of course if I hired that one us an easy decision.

As for the defenders... Bertrand has been consistent this season, Moreno not so. Sure he might make 4 points on him this week but then what? A worse player til GW38?

And bringing in a Leicester def is basically bench fodder after dgw, same as pva except his dgw. That also makes me question the -4

I can't see Bertrand or PVA keeping a CS though (maybe 1 at max for Bert). Liverpool could possibly keep two CS. I'd go with upside. Even after the DGW, Pool and Leicester have some decent fixtures.

I love Hat. Sometimes I see you, looking at me, looking at you ... and it makes me smile.

      Anyways ...

Would you ditch Fellaini for Sterling / Coutinho (FT) (I already have Henderson) or use the FT for Lescott > Moreno / Skrtel?

I enjoy watching you from a distance as well

I'd ditch Fellaini for Sterling - but I would be tempted to do the Lescott trade as well for a hit, I'm weighing it up at the moment

Doing Mata -> Henderson for now but thinking Bellerin -> Skrtel

That is actually a real big pickle, I'd be tempted to drop Mane for Hendo but I'm not sure about benching Kane or Murray...I would probably bring in Mignolet for Hamer actually

#askhat a compliment from my side if I may: nice hat!
      and now my questions:
1] Would you still keep Remy for the DGW?
2] If you had Coutinho would you rather combine with Sterling or Hendo?

      Team is below:

      Krul (Panti)
      Terry/Toby/Clyne (Dawson/Haidara)
      Silva/Haz/Erik/Coutinho (Boyd)
      Kane/Kun/Remy

      2 FT, 1.4 ITB

      Thanks in advance 🙂

        1) I think you have too now that you have him
        2) Sterling easily! Erik -> Sterling

I'm not sure how much Remy is but I would be pretty tempted to do Remy -> Vardy and Toby -> Ivanovic as well for a -4 hit...could be risky if Remy plays but if he doesn't it could well pay off

I like the strides in success you have made in the past season!

      K Davis
      Schlupp Terry Skrtel
      Haz Fab Hendo Sterling Ramsey
      Aguero Vardy

      Gilks Benteke PVA Duff

Had to lose Sanchez but replaced with Ramsey. Have 2.3 ITB

GW 35 will downgrade FAB and bring in Giroud for Vardy (Will be a -4)

That is pretty much the perfect WC team - I would prefer to have Ivanovic over John Terry though but you probably won't be able to afford it.

Why are you keeping Benteke? Surely Kane is still a better option then him and gives more cash to work with

        1. bigbudgie

          9 years, 17 days ago

Can actually afford Ivan over Terry

Benteke is coming in for this WC and saves a transfer in the future, I want him from GW35 onwards, Villa have three out of four home games.

Kane has sou MCI so not keen on that

Tempted to bypass the midfield and double up on Skrtel and Moreno.

I prefer Hendo and Coutinh tbh. I am not buying all the Gerrard talk. I still think his game time will be limited so Hendo will be on set-pieces. Most of his points haven't come from set-pieces anyway. Just 1 penalty and I can't remember that many assists from FKs and corners. Coutinho seems to be playing the most advanced atm and his position is always advanced unlike Sterling who plays wing back sometimes. His versatility is a point against him fpl-wise.

They have to give Gerrard a fair well tour though, he's a club legend and deserves it and they have nothing to play for now.

Benteke or Giroud until GW 37 if you will have Ozil and Ramsey? And if it is Tekkers, do I dare keep him for DGW 37 and ignore Giroud all together? I am just too tempted by Benteke as a differential and don't want to lose Kun or Kane. What would you do?

wondering what the biggest Game week score ever is?
if anyone knows do you think its possible to be broken this weekend?
with my WC and 3 Chelsea, 3 Liverpool, 3 Leciester and 2 Hull players do you think its possible to break this record?

Dunno what the record is but I doubt it will be broken this weekend, it's not that great a DGW, especially if you are relying on Leicester and Hull players.

A few seasons ago someone scored well over 200 ... Rooney, Suarez, Yaya, Hazard et al all went mental. I think there were 15 or 16 games in one GW though ... was pretty immense!

mmm ok, maybe i should jus aim to top the scoring in any given gameweek, as ive never done that before. it would be cool to be able to claim it!

Chelsea won 7-2 that gameweek, although it looks like Man Utd v Hull was the only double match.

There was a week where Rooney scored 32 and pretty much everyone had captained him. A whole load of other big name players who scored in the double figures. I scored around 170 and my score was nothing special - think the top score was indeed over 200.

However, I'm pretty sure that this was the days before Yaya, Hazard and Suarez joined the PL.

They can obviously keep. Man City failed to score at home for the first time against Chelsea(last season), so a clean sheet against Arsenal isnt a big deal.
If I have to pick 3rd Chelsea player, it would be a defender. 🙂
Getting atleast an assist or Chelsea keeping clean sheets are expectation/prediction which can go either way 😛

4pts for playing 60mins and couple of points for clean sheet 😉

Fair enough. I already have Remy though so if he is unfit (and I ship for Vardy) surely I should bring in a 3rd chelsea player? Not keen on a double defence as I just ditched that two weeks ago. Although I could get Hendo instead of Fab

chelsea will play more defensive now and watching from the utd game i forsee chelsea to play a similar approach against arsenal..chances will be limited and if there are it would be through hazard who is the focal point of counter attack.

nevertheless i expect arsenal to score...so 1-1 is my prediction.

as for the lei game its tough..and realistically the game that fab would be likely to get something from since lei defense is still relatively poor. would help if costa is fully fit..but with only drogba(he did play very well against utd..just not getting chances at goal) i am not very convinced whether fab will get much from it too.

You also have to take into consideration the fact that both Lei and Arsenal will attack as they will need to win their games.

i understand your point about defensive lapses from these teams

yeah..i forsee 1 way traffic for arsenal vs chelsea..and similarly hazard on the counter and hopefully to get a goal.

the lei game determines fab's output..but i really do not see chelsea scoring more than 2 goals.

i would say fab will get 1 assist out of 2 games..so 8-9 pts is my prediction..and if u have to take a hit to get him maybe u will gain a few points provided your original player blanks.

of course since i have fab i would be happy if he gets more than that..but for people on wc i would recommend them to consider again. An alternative approach would be getting in rambo/sanchez and save a future FT

If money is no issue, who should I opt for - Coutinho or Hendo?

I think henderson may be pushed back now in favour of gerrard

I require a Hull defender - with Chester now back is he the best option?

they have a double and i would like one as the rest of the double defenders are too expensive.

Thinking of going 3-5-2 for the DGW, thinking of taking a -4 point hit and doing Cazorla --> Henderson and Boyd -->Cambiasso.

    Panti
    Ivanovic* Fonte Schlupp*
    Henderson* Silva Hazard* Sterling* Cambiasso*
    Remy* Kane

    Subs: Heaton, Giroud, PvA, Lescott

Am I being too idealistic thinking Remy will play? If so, who could I bring in? Cheers lads

    Ivan, Skrtel, Clyne, Bertrand
    Hazard, Coutinho, Henderson/Sterling, Mane
    Remy, Kun
