Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

    Sanchez Hazard Sterling Coutinho Henderson
    Remy Kane

    Which is a better option:

    A) Kosc + Henderson
    B) Some other Arsenal defender than Kosc or Mert + Coutinho

    Hi Guys,

Would be grateful for your thoughts on my initial WC team. Im circa 15k, and 34 pts ahead in ML (rival also on WC):

    Mignolet*
    Terry* Schlupp* Wollsheid
    Hazard (c)*, Fabregas, Henderson*, Sterling*
    Vardy*, Aguero, Kane

SUBS – A. Sanchez, PVA (DGW 37), Panti (DGW 37), [TBC – Def for 4.3 or less] £0 ITB

Looking for a good week and to set up nicely. Other options (Coutinho over Sterling)?

    Cheers in advance

    A) McShane (cry, LIV) and Cambiasso (bur, CHE)
    B) Sanchez (CHE) and Giroud (CHE)

I have double Chelsea defense against the Arsenal boys if it makes a difference.

What are people's thoughts on Gerrard adversely affecting Henderson's prospects in the dgw?

Firstly do we expect him to come back in? Because if he gets any gametime he'll surely take all the set pieces off Henderson.

I'm a bit worried about that to be honest. On the other hand you'd think that Rodgers will look to the future and keep Gerrard on the bench mainly.

Curious to why people are thinking Costa is potentially playing in the DGW.

I'm sure I read on here over the weekend, someone found a team who had taken like 3,600 hits from the start of the season.

Team value was bang on 100m.

3600 hits is preposterous..has to be fake

No idea where anyone would find the time to do that.

Think they were thinking it could be a league where team value had to be 100m and not over.

          Insane.

Not hard to find these teams - some people strive to finish last. Just go to the end of the overall table, there are always plenty of them.

I usually take far too many hits but this season has changed a little. I've only taken 2 x 4 point hits in the last 16 weeks.

Planning a 12 pointer this week potentially, followed by at least another -4 over the next 3 weeks after that, probably -8 if I want Defoe.

wow, and I was thinking I was playing conservatively having only taken 7 hits this season!

Thoughts on my team for the DGW? (1 hit & 0.9 ITB)

    Mignolet
    Terry - Skrtel - Schlupp
    Sanchez - Hazard (C) - Silva - Henderson
    Aguero - Remy - Kane

    Panti, Mahrez, Alderweireld, Dawson

    Cheers.

    Transfers:
    Krul > Mignolet
    Clyne > Skrtel
    Eriksen > Henderson

what's the point of owning Mahrez if you're gonna bench him?

I like a lot. No More needed.

I only worry about Remy game time.... I guess we have to hope he plays at least 90 rather than take further hits to do him to Fabs (see below dilemma.... I will most probably go A tho)

I hope you haven't done them already, because you'll want to wait for Remy and Silva news. If they are both out it could change your plans entirely

I think they're more likely to keep cleanies than batter teams, right now.

Dawson, Eriksen, Bolassie ----- TO ----- Skrtel, Henderson, Sterling for -4

    OR

Dawson, Eriksen, Bolassie, Boyd, Remy ----- TO ----- Skrtel, Henderson, Sterling, Fabregas, Vardy for -12

    ??

Have Terry, Hazard, Silva, Aguero, Kane, Clyne, Toby, Bruce, Davis, as other players. Thx

What are you doing with Silva?

Is Sanchez essential after DGW or can I go with Ozil/Ramsey, Giroud and Kosc?

Personally, Ozil is a suitable alternative to Sanchez.

Obviously, if you have the money go for Sanchez, if not Ozil isn't the end of the world.

Morning all. Why does most of you prefer Skrtel over Moreno for the double? I would say they are equally nailed now and Liverpool isnt that much of a threat from the corner kicks this year. Any reason not to save the 0.6?

BAPs and people concerned Moreno isn't nailed on.

Looking at the history, I don't see an issue with Moreno. Last time he played under 60mins was in Feb.

    SHCMEICHEL (Pantilimion)
TERRY - IVANOVIC - MORENO (PvA, Vlaar)
HAZARD - HENDERSON - STERLING - CAMBIASSO (Sanchez)
    Aguero - VARDY - Giroud
