Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 40

We approach the penultimate Gameweek of the season with a double Gameweek for Arsenal and Sunderland on the agenda. As always, we take a look at the Sky Sports game and assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 39 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Everton v Sunderland Lee Cattermole
Aston Villa v West HamTom Cleverley
Hull City v BurnleyDanny Ings
Leicester v SouthamptonRobert Huth
Newcastle v West BromRemy Cabella
Stoke City v Tottenham Marko Arnautovic
Crystal Palace v Man UtdAshley Young
Man City v QPRSergio Aguero
Chelsea v Liverpool Philippe Coutinho
Arsenal v Swansea Lukasz Fabianski

One goalkeeper, one defender, six midfielders and a couple of forwards picked up the awards this week. Sergio Aguero earned his eighth award of the season and picked up 25 points in City’s home thrashing of QPR. Philippe Coutinho earned back-to-back awards after picking up the plaudits in Liverpool’s draw at Chelsea, whilst Villa’s Tom Cleverley netted for the third match in succession and earned his first Man of the Match award this season.

Gameweek 39 Bonus Points

Only three goalkeepers managed to pick up saves bonus this week. Lukasz Fabianski, Rob Green and Hugo Lloris were the men in question, with the Swansea stopper serving up a 14-point return, which included a MotM award at the Emirates. Green is the busiest keeper in the league, having racked up 32 bonus points over the season.

In defence, seven players grabbed bonus in the previous round of fixtures. Four for tackles – including Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt, ahead of Sunderland’s double – whilst three defenders earned passing bonus – Arsenal trio Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal. City’s Pablo Zabaleta remains the top defender for bonus, with 24 points accrued so far.

In midfield, there were 16 beneficiaries in total: 12 for tackling and four for passes. Again, three Arsenal players – Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey – earned passing bonus during their home defeat to Swansea.

Chelsea’s double-pivot duo Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic lead the way for bonus amongst midfielders, with 50 points apiece.

No forwards earned bonus over the Gameweek 39 fixtures.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane’s poor scoring form is the reason for their exodus, whilst Aguero and Eden Hazard were likely sacrificed for Arsenal assets on Monday evening. Giroud’s form is also questionable, though with a double up next, many may come to regret transferring the Frenchman out.

Once again, Arsenal’s Monday night match means they make up three of the top five positions for the second successive Gameweek. Christian Benteke and Sergio Aguero continue to be drafted in after racking up the goals in recent outings.

We have some important transfer data to keep an eye on as the season comes to an end. Currently, the average amount of transfers remaining in the top 1000 players is 1.206, whilst the top 100 have 0.97 and finally the top 10 have 0.7.

Notes

My decision to captain Sergio Aguero at home to QPR came up trumps before I transferred him out for Alexis Sanchez at home to Swansea. Lukasz Fabianski racked up the points in a defiant display at the Emirates, whilst Jeffrey Schlupp chipped in with a clean sheet as I moved up to 55th overall.

Captain Plan
With two transfers remaining, I could swap out Sanchez for Harry Kane as my captain at home to Hull and then back again to Sanchez for Arsenal’s pair of matches.

Alternatively, I could just stick with Sanchez and have no Saturday captain, then use my two transfers to swap Eden Hazard and David Silva to Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey for the extra matches. As yet, I’m still undecided.

What are your prediction in the game QPR-Newcastle. Newcastle will fight for their lives since they are risking relegation, but what will QPR do?

    A) They are so depressed becuse of relegation that they even wont put up a fight
    B) They are going to give the home crowd a game to remember and play happy happy I wanna score football
    C) They will tighten up at the back - don´t want to concede another six goals this game.
    D) Something else?

    Hazard / Ozil / Sanchez / Silva
    Kane / Aguero / Vardy

    Sánchez: Hazard: Gómez: Fàbregas:Wallace

    Agüero: Benteke: Kane

I have two cup finals in mini leagues worth a good few quid but I also want to hang on to a 40 point lead in another mini league. The guys in the cups can make as many transfers as they want as they don't count.

    I'm thinking:

    Kane > Giroud
    Fab > Caz
    Moreno > Vlaar
Gomez > Larsson (sickened with this one) for a 12 point hit. What ye think?

60 is a massive lead mate with two weeks to go, if you think he's going Sanchez you have to go elsewhere, playing safe with two weeks to go is pointless, if you were 30 behind with 10 different players then fair enough but 60 is a tough task.

Just be inspired by Hazard in the last double, he was the runaway fav for the armband.

      1. Elijah's Wood

I've unfortunately had to get rid of Hazard this week, should have waited until today to do that transfer, didnt know mourinho would want him to play 100% of the games.

Yeh it definately seemed impossibly until last week with Aguero captained so i have faith lol, at least get 2nd (currently 4th).

Just a bit scared taking the armband off sanchez really, almost took it off aguero last week for benteke haha

        1. Shane H
          • 8 Years
          8 years, 11 months ago

But last week is different to this week, you have two chances to outscore him, Sanchez could end up with an assist in the second game and nothing in the first, Cazorla could get a pen on one and a goal and assist in the other, at this stage in your bet can you turn down this opportunity to take it to the last week?

          1. Elijah's Wood
            • 9 Years

I see what you mean, trouble is that obviously Sanchez is the favourite but again as you said, so was Hazard in that week. Its tricky, Cazorla and Ozil havent really proved that theyre capable of points haul, recently anyway. Although ive picked them because i favour them to take people by surprise. I dont know, why cant football be more predictable! lol

Good option. Save points can be very useful in a dgw even if no clean sheets

Pellegrini hint at Kolarov starting or not? I'd take a -4 to get him if he did.

Kolarov is killing my rank...and my ML. Someone stop him...or he can do a favor for me and get some yellow/red cards.
