The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – West Ham

Our members articles analysing last season are completed today with a review of West Ham’s performances. The Hammers entered 2014/15 in reasonable health, having finished 13th in the Premier League in the previous campaign, although they only gained 40 points and did flirt with the relegation zone before finally confirming their top-flight status.

Plenty of changes were made in both playing and coaching personnel at Upton Park last summer, with forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho brought in, while Teddy Sheringham joined up as an attacking coach. Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell were also signed, while Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song moved to the Hammers on season-long loans.

In this members article, we asses the main goal threats and creators in Sam Allardyce’s final year at the helm and also compare the team’s attacking numbers to the previous year.

After the community shield game, what's the consensus on the best Arsenal 8.5 mid :

    A) Cazorla
    B) Ramsey
    C) Ozil

Reason along with your pick would be helpful, cheers!

If people cant even pick a player from the same team, at the same price, in the same position themselves, just give up now...

Cazorla, to be honest. He's always overlooked but produced wonderfully for me last season and he seems to still be central to chances. Doesn't really matter where he plays.

Cazorla imo. Looked dangerous & is on set pieces as well.

Really liking Ramsey, naturally gets in great attacking positions and is better finisher by a country mile compared to ozil. With that said, already have Santi just cause of Pens +set pieces.

I am under the impression that the following are the most nailed on (points potential also) defenders ( for < 5.0) from these teams.. correct me if I am wrong

    Swansea : Naughton
    West Ham : Jenkinson
    Watford : Prodl
    Bournemouth : Francis
    Leices : Huth

    1. Wilshere Knowledge

Williams for Swansea, rest looks right. (Naughton nailed, but Williams good on the BAPS)

Fernandez and Williams are 100% in the middle. Fernandez is much more of a threat from corners but Williams tends to get in the BPS. Naughton is definite first choice also, but we have more cover there so slightly more likely to have the occasional rest I suppose.

Your mids, hazard aside, are very very weak which will cost you. Ox had one good game today, Barkley not good enough. Sinclair is a good 5th mid though and Ritchie is a punt that many are going for including myself but you'll need better cover in case it doesn't work

Way too much itb. Buff up barkley, ox or sinclair (probably barkley given evertons terrible fixures gw 2 +)

Not sure if Ox is nailed even after today's performance, but he could prove a great gamble. That said, personally I wouldnt use an arsenal slot on a player that isnt 100% unless it isnt wally or bellerin. Defense looks very solid though.

Cuz use money itb to barkley > milner now then ox > santi

Majority went for Kane & Mane over Pelle & Sterling which I find strange.

Pelle is the focal point of Saints attack. Kane feels like chasing last years points, and while I'm sure he'll bang in a few again, he doesn't have the advantage of being the surprise talent like last time around.

Sterling would also be my only City player at present, and seems the cheapest route into their attack right now (besides Yaya of course). Mane is great, I'd actually like to fit him in but with Cedric and Pelle it would be too reliant on Soton. Thats my rationale.

    1. Areid13
      • 10 Years

I've got Mane and Pelle but out of those two options definitely Pelle and Sterling for me

I'm actually taking the risk with Cedric too because they had a great defense last year and not bad attack so I'm hoping they can reproduce again

Playing over 1000 minutes more than Mane Pelle managed a single goal and two assists more. Mane's goals counting for 1 extra point he actually outscored Pelle (G+A) by one point

More than decent. He's gonna feed off those Silva's through balls. Expect him to work well with Agüero, like he did with Suarez.

With City all of a sudden seeming so weak defensively, the only way they're gonna win is by outcoring their opponents. Obviously, but you know what I mean.

What have we learned from the Arsenal-Chelsea game today? For me, here are some things:

    1) Bellerin is first choice RB. It is his to lose. Barring injury, suspension or a series of bad performances, he should keep his place.

    2) We should not be so sure over Walcott. Playing centrally didn't work today against a strong and physical team. I doubt Wenger would try that again against a physical and big team like WestHam. Giroud to be first choice CF imo. I am not sure if he is match fit though. Ox coming back means even more rotation as well. Sanchez will probably be ready by GW 3. Better stay with Ozil, Cazorla and Ramsey for now.

    3) Arsenal should be a good source for CS this season. Splashing the extra 0.5 for Arsenal defenders is probably worth it over the likes of Williams, Cedric,PVA etc.

    4) Arteta coming back impacts Cazorla slightly. Sure Cazorla is nailed on but I expect Arteta to replace him for the last 10-15 minutes of games already in the bag. Arteta could also get the odd start when there are CL games midweek.

    5) Chelsea have a big problem in the striker department. Remy looked poor. Falcao will need a lot of time. Having 2 Chelsea attacking players isn't very smart this early in the season.

    What did I miss?

Based on today, I'd say he will start GW1 ahead of Wally who was poor. That is if he is match fit. I haven't followed Arsenal preseason much. How did Giroud do? Did he get enough minutes?

seems too risky though doesnt it? If Wenger started with Walcott today it definitely means he'll at least rotate with Giroud...which also makes Walcott a risky one..
