The ScoutCast – Episode 164 – Sheepish

Limping out of the blocks like three flabby Dads at their kids’ Sports Day, Granville, Jonty and myself are in a sheepish mood for the first ScoutCast of the season.

We do our upmost to rouse some enthusiasm for the events of Gameweek 1, buoyed by tales from you, the community and your latest round of finely honed questions, drilling down into the current big dilemmas.

Chelsea and Arsenal’s stuttering start, the strategy surrounding Aguero and Sanchez, plus the top targets ahead of Friday’s 6.45 deadline provide plenty to distract me from the fact that I’d been robbed of a David Silva goal just minutes before coming on air.

This ScoutCast was recorded on Monday evening and went out live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to our channel to get updates on the next cast if you want to drop in live.

You can relieve the Google Hangout version, warts and all, via the larger movie player below. Or, if you’d prefer the low-fat edited audio version, you’ll need this link or the smaller player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I was hoping Walcott dropped, i dont want to have to make a really early transfer after the deadline, before he has even played. Will probably just let him fall tomorrow and keep him a bit longer anyway

yeah,i'll cop the drop. We need more data to decide who comes in so have to wait the gw out.

sounds defeatist. holding onto a player losing value can't be the best move.

it can when they have explove potential. there have been countless occassions when the masses have been selling a player only for him to produce a haul that weekend

That happened to me last season with Jovetic. Kept him GW2, scored a brace, then dropped him 😉

I was thinking the same. A 0.1 drop doesn't effect my short term plans, just a bit of a pain.

Had a horrible GW1, only netting 26 points, so I've done a little chopping and changing, what do you guys think of this?

    Romero
    Skrtel - Clyne - Darmian
    Sterling - Sánchez - Mané - Fábregas
    Sakho - Gomis - Pellé

    Schmeichel - Oxford - Cédric - Cabaye

I'm thinking of giving captaincy to Gomis too, since I totally agree with the cast crew about the mix-match of his heading threat and Newcastle's poor aerial defence being sometime we should be looking to exploit.

£2.0m ITB.... Sterling -> Payet ? If I do it, it will leave me with 3.5ITB

    Ruddy - Rudd
    Mert - Cedric - Huth - Coates - Francis
    Hazard - Cazorla - Sterling - Mane - Westwood
    Rooney - Pelle - Wilson

If you need to make another mil or so to get Aguero in, perhaps downgrade Caz to Payet or Ayew. The. upgrade Rooney to Aguero next week? But nothing pressing you can wait till next week with two fts up your sleeve

assuming no injuries, which will get the higher points for the season??

    A. Courtois - McCarthy - Mert

    B. Schmeichel - Butland - Azpi

    1. FrostySphincter
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 8 months ago

It'll be close, but I'm thinking B, since you'll I thinking Schmeichel will be about equal with Mert, Butland will about equal McCarthy, and Courtois will get the you same clean sheet points as azpi, but without the occasional goal/assist which I'd imagine will return more than the few saves Courtois has to stop most games.
There's not much in it for me though.

Selling him as soon as deadline passes I think. It's bit of a risk but since I've made up my mind to sell him after this GW, I'd prefer to save that 0.1 which at this stage could turn to be valuable.

Need to pick a 4.5 mid before seeing this weeks matches. Have narrowed it to these:

Mutch: Will he keep that position in the hole?
King: Don't know much about him tbh
Surman: Seems like a good steady pick
Westwood: Nice attacking pick, is he nailed? Also at risk of casuals dropping him after getting him this past week
Obertan: Exact same situation as Westwood, will he be nailed on?

    1. Miami Monkey
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 8 months ago

I think Leicester are buying another mid. So remove King. Looking at CP's team, no way Mutch is nailed at all.

Narrows it to the other 3.

    2. Clintymints
      • 14 Years

Westwood just got a new contract and I'd opt for him

Speroni not as nailed as everyone thinks according to pardew's words. Good omens 4.0 keeper option:

ALAN Pardew has revealed how frustrated Julian Speroni is following his finger injury sustained three weeks ago.

The goalkeeper has been ruled out of action for another two weeks at the very least, and then he has a big job on his hands to overcome Alex McCarthy and Wayne Hennessey.

"Unfortunately for Julian, it's very frustrating," said Pardew.

"We're talking about a Crystal Palace legend. He hasn't had a chance to fight for the starting position since he's had the injury.

"He is very frustrated in the nicest possible way, because we know he's a real gent.

"He has supported Alex McCarthy and Wayne Hennessey, but he's not training."

It's not a matter of if but when as to our changing of the guard between the sticks. McCarthy could keep his place for the season, I think. We'll see.

Question, those who stuck with Walcott... Are you gona sell before he inevitably drops tomorrow before he even plays, or after the deadline?

Even if he drops, if he scores, the casual bandwagon will get him backup to 9.0. If he blanks, we were all wrong anyway. Better to wait it out.
