Games

PlayON Focus – Gameweek 3

As we’ve discussed previously, our approach to the weekly games is slightly different this year. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

Gameweek 2 was a rewarding week for strikers in PlayON, with four forwards scoring over 2000 points – with Romelu Lukaku leading the way on 2945 points. Only Riyad Mahrez scored similar, with 2360 points from midfield emphasising the importance of getting those front two spots filled with the right players each week.

Christian Benteke also notched over 2000 points but, along with Lukaku, has a tougher fixture this week as they face Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Sergio Aguero and Stoke’s Mame Diouf were the other two big scorers last weekend and could be the ones to back again ahead of trips to Everton and Norwich respectively.

For the upcoming weekend, as mentioned in the Weekly Shop article I’m predominantly including Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace assets further back in the teams with various combinations from those defences that look to have a potential clean sheet coming up. In midfield I’ve picked the likes of Juan Mata, Dimitri Payet and Yohan Cabaye, all of whom could build on decent PlayON scores last week.

The Bottom Line

A second week without results in PlayON, managing only mid-table finishes in the free entry and the £1.10 contests. I did at least win something, a wonderful £0.05 arriving back in the pot from a 28th place finish out of the 819 entries for the Monday Night freeroll.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £3.10
Winnings – £0.05
Current Pot – £82.90

This Week’s Stake

After an unfavourable start to the season, I’m focusing on low fee contests and free games as I work to build my pot back up.

Weekly – I’ve entered the maximum possible five teams for the £100 freeroll pot, which covers all ten of the rounds fixtures. I’ve also entered two teams for £1.10 apiece into the £100 guaranteed game and taken up a challenge against OptaJoe for another £1.10. I will also check near the deadline if there are any £0.27 and £0.55 games near to being filled and if so put a few teams into those.

Daily – Five entries go into each of the £25 free pot games that are available for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Total Stake: £3.30
As a PlayON Pro it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes, these games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

    Neville on Toure:

There could be a situation brewing, too, for City and Yaya Youre. In the Chelsea game Toure was wilting after about 65 minutes. He has a vital role now at City. If he plays every Wednesday, every Saturday – and Manuel Pellegrini feels he has to pick him – it will be to the team’s detriment. It will cost them points. He has to be used in a clever manner, so his performances hit 100%, which is better than three at 75%. Once you get past 32 or 33 that becomes the choice.

As a United fan, I have to say it's very good news that they seem to be leaving the CM problem they have unattended and KDB will probably spell the end of their summer shopping.

Agree with this. Toure should be used sparingly. For the easier fixtures play Delph and Fernandinho. Delph plays the role Fernandinho currently does and Fernandinho plays a little more attacking like Toure does now. Delph will prove an important piece of the puzzle.

Ignoring United, play your City defender every week then rotate - Stoke, Bournemouth, Villa and Swanea:

    GW3 - Norwich (a), Sunderland (a)
    GW4 - WBA (h), Sunderland (h)
    GW5 - Watford (a), Norwich (a)
    GW6 - Leicester (h), WBA (h)
    GW7 - Bournemouth (h), Stoke (a)
    GW8 - Stoke (h), Watford (h)
    GW9 - Swansea (a), Stoke (h)
    GW10 - Watford (h), Swansea (h)
    GW11 - Newcastle (a), Southampton (a)
    GW12 - Norwich (a), Newcastle (a)
    GW13 - Bournemouth (h), Swansea (a)
    GW14 - Watford (h), Everton (h)
    GW15 - Southampton (a), Leicester (h)

Looks decent enough. Can go Williams, Francis, Richards, Muniesa (18.5) or if you want some potential attacking returns - Williams, Johnson, Francis, Amavi (19.5m)

think this would work better if you swap the Swansea for whu
you only have swan playing sun (A) watf(A) for first 6 weeks
could then transfer whu defender to Swansea when their fixtures improve

I can't see Newcastle's makeshift defence handling him. Rooney's still looking off, so Depay's their main attacking threat. I expect he'll have at least 5 shots this weekend, and I'd bank on him getting at least one of those in.

Aguero's still under 25% ownership, playing away at Everton, who I think will keep things very tight. He's always likely to score, but I imagine he'll be captained by at most 15%. If he does well, it still benefits me. Too early to be ruled by fear - I think Depay is my likeliest scorer this weekend, so I'm going for it!

    Myhill - McCarthy

    Darmian - Kolarov - Gomez - Muniesa - Francis

    Sanchez - Silva - Depay - Mahrez - Westwood

    Aguero - Gomis - Vardy

1.Extremely tempted by Eriksen over Depay, as a slight differential and BAPS whore.

    2. Suggested improvements most welcome.

Question about defensive rotation. Whenever I did a rotation of 3 cheap def for 1 spot, I would pretty scrupulously follow the fixtures and generally get around 3.5-4.0 PPG over the long haul.

This season I started with a 4 cheap def for 2 spots rotation, and I am wondering how closely I should stick to the fixtures or how much I should start playing around with form as a measure as well.

I am on Ward Coates Richards Morgan, and am considering playing Richards over Coates? The only way I have ever thought a rotation can work is if I stay consistent with my decisionmaking, but Sunderland seem awful so one of the best fixtures Coates can have during these six weeks might be one that I skip.

Anyone here considering Chelsea or Arsenal defender?

    Considering something like Azpi/Kos - Kolarov - Darmian - Gomez - Richards.

Bottom heavy until its clear which cheap defs are worth investing is my strategy.

              Silva, Sanchez, Depay, Mahrez, 4.5
              Aguero, Sakho, Gomis

See above considering Depay & Sakho or Payet & Diouf.

Might switch later. I'm expecting Sakho to outscore Diouf but latter one might be better in long run.

Well Depay has form - he showed that mid-week. He is now playing in his preferred position on the left and they have Newcastle at home who have a make shift right back.

Also, payet is more about assists than a goals. West Ham just took the hit of losing zarate, plus they had how many shots on target vs Leicester? (their first one was the goal @ 55mins)

Wouldn't say Sagna has no chance for attacking return this weekend. Galloway will start for Everton, he has no experience and Sagna could profit there.
