Games

PlayON Focus – Gameweek 3

As we’ve discussed previously, our approach to the weekly games is slightly different this year. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

Gameweek 2 was a rewarding week for strikers in PlayON, with four forwards scoring over 2000 points – with Romelu Lukaku leading the way on 2945 points. Only Riyad Mahrez scored similar, with 2360 points from midfield emphasising the importance of getting those front two spots filled with the right players each week.

Christian Benteke also notched over 2000 points but, along with Lukaku, has a tougher fixture this week as they face Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Sergio Aguero and Stoke’s Mame Diouf were the other two big scorers last weekend and could be the ones to back again ahead of trips to Everton and Norwich respectively.

For the upcoming weekend, as mentioned in the Weekly Shop article I’m predominantly including Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace assets further back in the teams with various combinations from those defences that look to have a potential clean sheet coming up. In midfield I’ve picked the likes of Juan Mata, Dimitri Payet and Yohan Cabaye, all of whom could build on decent PlayON scores last week.

The Bottom Line

A second week without results in PlayON, managing only mid-table finishes in the free entry and the £1.10 contests. I did at least win something, a wonderful £0.05 arriving back in the pot from a 28th place finish out of the 819 entries for the Monday Night freeroll.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £3.10
Winnings – £0.05
Current Pot – £82.90

This Week’s Stake

After an unfavourable start to the season, I’m focusing on low fee contests and free games as I work to build my pot back up.

Weekly – I’ve entered the maximum possible five teams for the £100 freeroll pot, which covers all ten of the rounds fixtures. I’ve also entered two teams for £1.10 apiece into the £100 guaranteed game and taken up a challenge against OptaJoe for another £1.10. I will also check near the deadline if there are any £0.27 and £0.55 games near to being filled and if so put a few teams into those.

Daily – Five entries go into each of the £25 free pot games that are available for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Total Stake: £3.30
As a PlayON Pro it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes, these games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

Strange if "you can see" that he's right footed, when the guy himself says that "these days I’m left-footed". Unless you mean you can see it on paper.

Anyway, I think he's wrong in that it has not been an advantage for his career to play on left, in particular if you look at his international career. Much more competition for LB than RB.

There's not enough two footed players around and by that I mean a player who won't mind taking a corner etc etc with either foot. Ginola was great as was Zola using either foot, Hazards not bad, Modric decent but can't think of many others who have graced the EPL who fall into that category, soon to be Pedro can use both feet but that's all I can think of......

Cazorla. Who, interestingly, also became two-footed because of an injury to his preferred foot, like Clichy.

Would be grateful for a crit of my (admittedly template-y) WC team... A Doosra-style /10 would be fantastic.

    Myhill (McCarthy)
    Kompany, Darmian, Williams (Gomez, Muniesa)
    Sanchez, Silva, Payet, Mahrez (Westwood)
    Aguero, Gomis, Diouf

    0.4 in bank

      Strong front 8.
Romero may be risking depending on the resolution of the De Gea situation, but a good pick if he keeps playing.

When you pick defenders based on a rotation, it does have its drawbacks in that if one player gets injured/ dropped it has a domino effect on your team.

    1. Daniel Exeter
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Thing is that is why you pick 5 playing defenders.

All a bit too intricate relying on rotation. All sorts of things can happen. Better to have players with good overall fix on their own right imo.

Yes but then your other player has good fix. Not just home fix that alternate with your injured guy

            1. John t penguin
              • 9 Years
              8 years, 8 months ago

but if you have three good players you are only going to have spend cheap on other two who would replace him who would probably be one of your rotation players
so we all end up with same players in the end unless everyone gets injured

    Very good defence.
Do not like mahrez + payet feels little lightweight.
Diouf not my liking but with those fixtures it may be worth it . A little to much cash in defence tho.
8.5 but I think its near what I'll want if I had used WC.

Is Depay gonna kick off now and get good returns or is he gonna stay quiet? Have no Man Utd offensive cover without him. Already have City and Swansea cover through Aguero and Gomis.

Your lack of subs in defence is a worry... Targett and Taylor both short term picks. The rest is very strong.

Cheers, agree with the defensive issue, could possibly downgrade Diouf to free up some cash to upgrade defence

Defence is shocking unless your planning to use the All Out Attack chip this GW

Would personally downgrade Hazard or Sanchez to a mid price Mid and Upgrade either Targett or Taylor

Are these odd of any use? Betting on top FPL goalscorer for the week. Could help with captain choices etc. https://www.betbright.com/football/outrights/england/fantasy-premier-league

I assume odds are based on the assumption they start, in which case 21/2 is very fair against newcastle.
