Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 12

We carry out our club-by-club scan of the treatment rooms, on the day that West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet was ruled out for up to three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton.

Elsewhere, Liverpool face an anxious wait for the full prognosis on Mamadou Sakho’s knee problem, whilst City are boosted by Sergio Aguero’s progress, as Wilfried Bony is left nursing his hamstring.

Arsenal

Santi Cazorla was replaced by Manuel Flamini at half time of the North London derby, in what initially looked like a tactical decision. Arsene Wenger revealed in his post-match press conference, however, that the Spanish playmaker was suffering from dizziness that affected his mobility:

“We suffered in the first half because Cazorla was at 30 per cent of his potential, he was dizzy. I was sitting there thinking do I take him off or not? You never know, maybe it will get better. At half-time I took him off, and in the second half we had a bit better balance. He is not sick, he was just dizzy and could not move, you could see that on the pitch. I did not really know what he had, so at half-time I took him off, I hope it is nothing bad, but it does not look like it, because he says he is alright now.”

Bournemouth

Eddie Howe confirmed that Marc Pugh – who was withdraw after 45 minutes last Gameweek – was unavailable for selection after failing to shake off a knock.

Chelsea

The Blues defender Kurt Zouma has withdrawn from duties for the France Under 21 side due to an unspecified injury earlier today.

Crystal Palace

Eagles fitness coach John Salako has issued an update on Dwight Gayle, who missed the weekend win over Liverpool due to a hamstring injury:

“Dwight works very hard and, unfortunately, I think he’s got a Grade Two tear – he’s had the scan. He could face three-to-four weeks on the sidelines now. He is young so we’ll see, it could be two weeks, it could be (up to) four.”

Everton

Tyias Browning picked up a minor knee injury in training during the week, ruling him out for England U21’s match-up against Bosnia on Thursday. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We had a warm-up game on Wednesday and he picked up an injury in his knee. It is nothing serious but we’ll have to speak with England and manage that situation. I don’t think he’ll be available for the next game, but he could be available for the game against Switzerland in Brighton.”

Fellow full-back Brendan Galloway is also being assessed ahead of England U21’s upcoming pair of matches. Earlier today, manager Gareth Southgate revealed:

“Brendan is being assessed now, he is with us. It’s a muscular injury but we don’t want to take any chances. Maybe he is okay for Thursday; maybe he is okay for Monday. We don’t know.”

Liverpool

The Merseysiders were rocked earlier this evening after scans confirmed that Mamadou Sakho is set for a period on the sidelines after limping off early during the weekend loss to Palace. Liverpool expect to discover the likely period of absence tomorrow, with the Frenchman set to see a specialist.

Jordon Ibe has withdrawn from England U21 duties against Bosnia and Switzerland with a knee injury, The youngster suffered no more than bruising, though, and is expected to be available for the Gameweek 13 trip to City.

James Milner sat out Sunday’s defeat having suffered a hamstring injury in their Europa League clash against Rubin Kazan. After the Anfield loss, Jurgen Klopp played down the severity of the injury:

“In Kazan, he had not the best moment with his muscle. But he’s an experienced player, and it was nothing serious and in this moment he can train.”

Manchester City

Wilfried Bony pulled up with a hamstring problem at Villa Park and had to be substituted at the 24-minute mark. Although Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t expect the Ivorian to play for his country during the international break, he did suggest that Bony could travel with the squad to get his injury assessed:

“It is difficult to know at this moment how serious his hamstring injury is. We will see tomorrow. I don’t know – maybe he will have to go and join up with Ivory Coast. His country must review the injury. But I don’t think he will be able to play and he will return to Manchester.”

In more positive developments for the Sky Blues, Pellegrini reported that a quartet of injured players are progressing well in their rehabilitation, with Sergio Aguero targeting a return next Gamweek against Liverpool:

“I hope that this week he [Aguero], (David) Silva, (Samir) Nasri and (Pablo) Zabaleta, will work with the physiotherapist and next Monday they will start working with the squad. We will see in the way he improves this week, but I think there is a chance he can be (back for Liverpool).”

Earlier today, Aguero took to twitter to confirm:

“Giving it my all on recovery work. There’s still more to go but getting better by the day!”

Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini missed Manchester United’s 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion and will not travel with Belgium ahead of their back-to-back friendlies, given that he sustained an injury in training.

Norwich City

Nathan Redmond was sidelined for the Canaries’ win over Swansea and has withdrawn from international duty with the England U21s, having injured his thigh in midweek.

Newcastle United

In the wake of the Magpies’ 1-0 road victory against Bournemouth, stand-in shot-stopper Rob Elliot revealed that he played against the advice of the club’s doctors. The former Charlton keeper is nursing a thigh injury but is confident that a fortnight of rest will hold him in good stead when Leicester City pay a visit next Gameweek.

“If you ask the manager, I was always playing. If you ask the doctor, then I probably wasn’t playing last week either. I was always going to play, and I didn’t know how good or bad it was going to be. It wasn’t too bad today, it was quite painful and I just had to get underneath the ball and lift it, you just don’t want to let the team down. I said to the manager, if you want me to play I will play, but just so long as I’m not going to hinder the team. I’m going to go and see the specialist and hopefully get some good news off him. Get some treatment, get some strength, get some rest. Hopefully I’ll be ready for Leicester and hopefully (we can) start showing the team that we can be, rather than the team we could be.”

Sunderland

John O’Shea is carrying a hamstring injury and will be assessed by Sunderland’s medical team to determine his availability for Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualifying play-off:

“Rob Elliot, John O’Shea, Paul McShane, Alan Judge, and Shane Long will all be assessed by their respective clubs before reporting for international duty.”

West Ham United

The Hammers have been dealt a major blow after Dimitri Payet was ruled out for around three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton on Saturday. His replacement against the Toffees, Enner Valencia, was forced off with a similar complaint and will be assessed by a specialist early next week, the club’s official website has revealed.

Best 3.9 defender? ...If there is one that is. Purely bench fodder. Someone who is unlikely to drop soon and maybe get some mins...

I'd be tempted to hold until we know more about Aguero, so potentially 2. I'm tentative to accept a "he might be back this week" - especially given Aguero's injury history - so I'd want maximum info on his recovery before I hit the WC (which would restructure your team around him I would imagine).

Say you play it this week. You either have to include him, or have the funds for him sitting in the bank. He could very easily not even start for another 2-3 games.

He might not be that good from a fantasy perspective but Lamela looks like a completely different player under Pochettino. Showed glimpses of promise last year but now he's cut out the lazy aspect of his game and really buying into the high energy game that Pochettino demands(alright he's picked up 5 yellow cards as a result but we'll let that pass).

Add that to the quality he shows on the ball, performing in big games(on Sunday & vs City earlier in the season) and he's finally beginning to pay off some of that £30m price tag. There's still room for improvement but he's floating under the radar as one of the breakout players of the year.

I am very impressed with Lamelathis season, those yellows are just a sign of his new get stuck mentality, he is improving ll the time. If it wasnt for the fixtures i would be seriously considering him as a Payet replacement

All these numbers like 476 for this fixture, 167 for this one and 29 for that one.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer just looking at it and going 'that's a decent fixture, I'll get cabaye' our 'vardy/Kane/lukaku are in form- I'll retain/buy them'

This is what I'm getting at. I love the stats for individual players like shots in box last 4 gameweeks etc. I think numbers for certain fixtures just seems a bit random. Too many discrepancies between one persons numbers and another's too.

Thoughts on coquelin? Or worry that he will hold up an arsenal place in squad? May be more prone to a yellow but bonus of the clean sheet point in more games!

      No idea at this point.

Stuck between making my benching headache even worse with Payet -> Ozil, or stinking up the team with a 4.3 midfielder.

        No one thinking Ben Watson?

Half decent chance of a cleanie and on some dead balls

        best 4.3 imo

        - points for ginger though

Tough one. I'd be happy to have lukaku all the way to week 19 minimum. Most will say get Kane in first though

You have 4 good defenders. I'd say downgrade 1 to Moreno and make Richards a 4.0

Yes, I know. I am holding too with Arsenal's good fixtures ahead. I just don't understand those who sold him, full of knee-jerkers in FPL.

    Payet > ???

    Current mids:
    Mahrez, Sanchez, Payet, KDB, Wanyama

    1 FT | 8.6 ITB
(Ozil would require a -4 as I have 3 gooners already)

Coutinho or Tadic? Other suggestions? Thanks

This, really messed up my team these 2 GWs after I had done Westwood > Sterling since GW11. Would have additional ~20pts if without those rotation headache.

Should I be looking at downgrading one of kdb, sanchez, smalling to fit lukaku in or will aguero, ighalo ,vardy be strong enough for the conceivable future?

Think about who you would downgrade and to who as well and then balance out your thoughts to in the next 4/5 weeks, will I get more points from e.g.

      A) ozil and lukaku or
      B) Sanchez and vardy

Doubt he gets banned and if he does, it doesn't affect his record as the streak is for consecutive appearances, so not appearing means he didn't fail to score.

    Need help here

    Myhill
    Rojo Souare Sagna
    Sanchez Mane Ozil KDB Mahrez
    Vardy Pelle

    McCarthy* Martial Bellerin Targett*

0.6 ITB & already done Payet out for Ozil

    A) Martial out for Lukaku -4, have exact cash
    B) No hits, wait until internationals over, means no Lukaku though as his price will be up by then.
