Captain Sensible – Gameweek 13

Our sixth members’ article of the international break sees us turn our attentions to the main captaincy contenders for the weekend ahead. We take a three-part approach that includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With a 34% share of the vote, Romelu Lukaku is the stand-out captaincy pick ahead of Everton’s home tie against Aston Villa. Profiting from their agreeable schedule, the 8.6-priced Belgian notched two goals and as many assists in the last two Gameweeks, elevating him to joint-second (seven goals) in the league-wide scoring charts. The fact that Villa shipped 13 goals in their previous five road clashes provides further incentive to hand Lukaku the armband.

Jamie Vardy (14%) can equal a Premier League record when Leicester City make the trip to Newcastle, as he attempts to net for the tenth successive start. Whilst there’s no disputing Vardy’s points potential, there are still major doubts over his availability, with Claudio Ranieri remaining uncertain over his star striker’s fitness in yesterday’s press conference. Staying within the Leicester camp, Riyad Mahrez claims a surprisingly low 3% backing for the St James’ Park clash.

Dispelling his slow start to the campaign, Harry Kane (9%) boasts five goals in his last three starts. Spurs’ premier frontman has developed a knack for scoring in derbies, so he’ll fancy his chances at home to a West Ham United rearguard that’s failed to register a shut-out in their previous seven match-ups.

Alexis Sanchez lies just outside the top three with a 6% backing. The Fantasy Premier League’s most expensive (11.6) midfielder has drawn three consecutive blanks but will be encouraged by the fact that West Bromwich Albion rank top for goals conceded at home (12). Mesut Ozil (4%) scoops a more modest share of the vote, despite chalking up eight assists in his previous six starts.

Despite doubts over his minutes, Sergio Aguero has been backed by 4% of voters for City’s clash with Liverpool tomorrow evening. With just one assist to his name in three outings, Kevin De Bruyne (2%) narrowly sneaks into the top 10.

Eden Hazard and Odion Ighalo (2%) matched each other stride for stride in our Captain Poll. The former has no form to speak of (one goal and two assists across 11 starts) but could punish a Norwich City defence that’s failed to keep a clean sheet on their travels. Meanwhile, the latter has been directly involved (five goals and two assists) in all of Watford’s last seven goals, underlining his value as a budget forward.

Williams - higher chance of CS. I think Liverpool will certainly score and all bookies favoring a City win with both sides to score but a Swansea to nil win.

Really gutted by the Payet drop and Deulofeu rise last night, checked fplstatistics but looked like nothing was happening..

Now I have the exact funds for Pelle -> Aguero but no need to do it for a -4 tonight right? Or could either one of them change in price do you guys reckon?

not sure when you checked... Payet was -100% 2 hours before the price change, and deulofeu was rising so fast, so he could hit the target

    Current team is
    DDG-Rudd
    Bellerin-Cedric-Dawson-Huth-Saylor
    Sanchez-KDB-Mahrez-Ayew-Fletcher
    Pelle-Lukaku- Vardy
    4.1 ITB ,1FT

Can either do Sanchez and Pelle > Ozil and Aguero or wildcard to something similar to this:
    DDG-4.0
    Bellerin-Moreno-VVD-Dier-S.Taylor
    Ozil-Silva-Mane-Mahrez-Fletcher

Agreed. I'll see what options I can get away with for -4, if it doesn't look great I'll use the WC. I only have 5/6 GW's left to use it anyway...

Hazard is a nice diff this GW. If he produces you will only regret it. I'd say no, team's good. Would get Lukaku for Pelle and perhaps Kolarov to Bellerin.

I might stick it out for another GW. I'm so desperate to get Aguero back in though!

I'd say your defense is fine. However, no one likes Hazard hogging their cash but I'm a loyalist and i'm holding out hope for the coming gameweeks. It's a bit of an issue having Hazard if you've got Sanchez though, that's a lot of money.

I would actually be ok with that team for another week except for maybe Ayew to Delefeou so you have Everton coverage. Would be nice to find a decent upgrade for Deeney then as well if possible, or just change him to Ighalo or.... Wickham?

      1. Essrick
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 5 months ago

I think I'd only get rid of Hazard on my WC. Sanchez will come good very soon, I'm 100% sure of it.

Yes Ayew doesn't excite me anymore and Deeney never has! Might do them two to Deulofeu and Ighalo...

I'm unsure on Aguero starting, Sanchez's minutes, and Vardy's hip.

So I might take a punt on Sterling (c) as I don't have Lukaku and Kane.

Been on good form and a certain starter as City are through in Europe which is what is giving me doubts about Sanchez even though WBA have trouble dealing with pacey wingers...

Aguero is back. KdB assist spike inc.
Plus all the teams are going to be very afraid of Agruero, which will create more room for Kevin to score himself.

Basically, number of transfers out before a drop increase as you go yellow to orange to red. Removal of red flag gives you 8 day price protection. Removal of orange or yellow flag resets transfers to 0%

Not at all mate. That's reserved for straight red flag to blank flag and new PL entries. Card suspensions are excluded for this rule. Kun has been orange for some time.

Thinking of replacing Sanchez with Ozil. Not sure of Sanchez's fitness and if he'll start.

Who else is their? Until Arsenal have a fully fit squad, Sanchez won't get rested
