Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 13

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle is the most high profile of this week’s Suspension Tightrope protagonists after collecting a fifth yellow card of the campaign in yesterday’s home loss to Stoke.

The Italian will now miss next weekend’s trip to the Etihad and, although he will return in time for a plum home clash against Villa in Gameweek 15, it’s fair to say the exodus is picking up pace – over 120,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have already parted company as we scramble to bring in the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero.

Pelle earned a late caution for kicking the ball away as his barren run continued – he’s scored just once in the last five Gameweeks. Post-match, Ronaldo Koeman was unhappy over the Italian’s lack of self-restraint:

“It’s all about the frustration of the player. He was not playing well, he was not scoring and the team was not winning, but you have to control yourself always. That’s difficult, we know. But, okay, if it doesn’t happen today maybe it happens next week. It’s always a question if you are one booking from a suspension. It’s always when, when, when it happens. Okay, normally you have to control yourself. He knows. We know. We have to accept it and we will play another [number] nine next week.”

Pelle is one of six players to succumb to a one-match Tightrope ban so far. Liverpool will be devoid of Lucas’ services for their home encounter against Swansea next weekend. Swansea’s Jonjo Shelvey will also miss that Anfield encounter – handed the role in “the hole” at home to Bournemouth, the former Red bagged himself a goal and assist before earning his fifth yellow of the season.

Over at the Hawthorns, Tony Pulis has decisions to make at left-back after Chris Brunt picked up his fifth booking in the Baggies’ home win over Arsenal – the Northern Ireland international now misses next weekend’s trip to West Ham. Mark Noble will also be unavailable for that one after earning his fifth yellow in today’s loss at White Hart Lane, whilst Dele Alli will be absent as Spurs host Chelsea next weekend.

There are now 17 players on this week’s Tightrope, with Gameweek 13 handing us five new entries. Bournemouth playmaker Matt Ritchie, Leicester centre-half Robert Huth, Norwich’s Seb Bassong and Liverpool pair Emre Can and Nathaniel Clyne are the men in question.

Palace duo Wilfried Zaha and Yohan Cabaye, along with Sunderland’s Billy Jones, could yet topple of this week’s Tightrope – all three go into tomorrow’s night’s match at Slehurst Park on four yellows apiece.

In terms of newly-available players, Tottenham will welcome back Erik Lamela for next week’s trip to Stamford Bridge after the Argentine served a one-match ban at home to West Ham earlier today. West Brom will have Gareth McAuley available for their clash with the Hammers after the Irishman missed yesterday’s win over Arsenal.

Slaven Bilic’s side, meanwhile, will be without the services of James Collins once again – the Welshman serves the last of a three-match ban against the Baggies.

If I had to bet I'd say Kane will score more. All about context though - I needed rid of Pellegrini this week - didn't see much point in bringing in Vardy when I might want Aguero soon anyway.

Pellegrini did say something along the lines of not being able to play 2-3 games in a week yet due to fitness so might be a chance he doesn't start - depends how much Pellegrini wants to win the group

    de Gea, Myhill
    Richards, Williams, Bellerin, Aldeweireld, Moreno
    KDB, Sanchez, Mahrez, Barkley, Ozil
    Vardy, Pelle, Lukaku

1 FT available and 0.6 ITB

Still can't make up my mind to sell KDB or Sanchez out to bring in Kun and Kane for Vardy & Lukaku

    A) KDB, Vardy, Pelle out for Stanislas, Kane, Kun
    B) Sancez, Vardy, Pelle out for Stanislas, Kane, Kun

If I go for A, I might have only 4.3 ITB
If I go for B, I get to upgrade Williams for Bertrand. Needed a defender from the Saints tho.

Klopp loves Benteke. He's always raving about him. He picked the lineup vs City because most of them were at Melwood for the break so he had a lot of time to work with them on the gameplan. Tekkers was away during this time. I expect him to be straight back in against Bordeaux and Swansea, replacing Lallana/Milner/Coutinho (depending on injury status).

I'm a pool fan so I watch a lot of Klopp interviews 🙂 there's one with him after the City match explaining his absence from the XI. He hinted that he's a key part of the squad and will be straight back in. Firmino isn't a long term option up front. The main question will be how Sturridge fits in.

You seem quite confident it won't be Firmino that misses out. Looking at his minutes he's always the one that seems to come off around 70-75 minute mark and has only reached that number twice in the last four.

Has something changed to make you think going forward he's more nailed? Lallana seems to have been doing well recently. Not sure about Milner.

        1. Kurtinho
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 5 months ago

I'm expecting Firmino to show his worth in the coming weeks and become undroppable like Coutinho. Lallana and Milner have been doing fine, but one of them will drop out for Benteke imo as they just don't have that end product required. Then it becomes interesting once Sturridge becomes fully fit..

Yeah it'll be a strong looking bench once everyone is back fit, including Henderson. It was indeed fantastic. Similar feeling to those matches in the 12/13 season when we were demolishing the likes of Tottenham, Everton and Arsenal. The difference is that Klopp is more tactically astute so he'll be able to maintain that momentum better than Rodgers.

Think I'm going to go with:

    Kane - Lukaku - Ighalo

...then I realise Vardy's "tough fixtures" are against (swa, CHE, eve)... Can't ship him for those can I?

      Kun just has to wait..

That's my front three buddy and I'm very happy with it. Leaves a lot of flexibility for strength in other areas.

Also leaves you with a lot of watching games behind a couch by going without the current top scorer this year and last year's top scorer...

...but I suppose that "behind-the-couch" watching is inevitable these days 😛

It is inevitable. Your post highlights that! Kane in your case. Which I'm pleased about. It creates real choices and dilemmas, and therefore provides chances for diligent/well thought out managers to gain an advantage.

Is there anything to choose between em all though?

I have the three cheapest at the moment in Lukaku - Vardy - Ighalo so TECHNICALLY I'm getting great value, but Kane and Kun are just so explosive that they could ruin everything in one GW..

Personally, I wouldn't transfer any of them out.

Taking out Vardy, well, it just feels like it defies any logic at all. The guy has scored in as many consecutive games as anyone in the history of the EPL right?! That said, we always talk about being ahead of the curve.

              Reasons why you might move him on;

              1. In the last 4 games he averages 7 points. Consistent but no big hauls
              2. Fixtures stiffen up now
              3. Not on pens (bar this game, where he can go past RVN, and the crowd will most likely peer pressure Mahrez again!).

The problem is that he has a tough game this week vs United, but then he has 3 easy enough fixtures, so if he blanks this week, will he be hungry to set it straight against easier opposition?

He's a workaholic isn't he? I'd expect he'd be desperate whether there's a record on the line or not. If he needs a motivation. How about the golden boot or the Euros.

(highlighted are the ones im planning on transfering out)

KDB, Pelle -> Lanzini and Aguero.
    Or other thoughts?

Can you imagine the panic on here by the end of the week if any of the following get injured midweek? Especially those that have already ran the risk.

Sanchez / Ozil (must win game)
    KDB
    Aguero
    Kane
    Coutinho (already doubtful)

Im going to sit out the rush until Friday. Id rather pay a rise of 0.1, 0.2 than end up taking a potential -8.

City has qualified, and with Aguero injury concerns I doubt he will even start. Coutinho is doubtful and if given a chance to rest him to be sharper for EPL Klopp will do so. He would have Sturridge and Benteke at his disposal.

Can't say anything about Sanchez and Ozil though. They would most likely complete the 90 mins
