Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 18

Vincent Kompany lasts less than 10 minutes before limping out of City’s win over Sunderland. Palace are set to be without Yannick Bolas and Connor Wickham for up to a month, West Ham have worries over both full-backs, whilst Jamie Vardy played through illness during Leicester’s loss at Liverpool. Here’s our catch up with the casualties currently worrying Premier League and Fantasy Football managers alike.

Aston Villa
Carlos Sanchez is an early doubt for Villa’s trip to Norwich tomorrow after being forced off with a foot injury during the weekend draw against West Ham.

Chelsea
Eden Hazard returned to contention with a brief 15-minute run-out at the end of Chelsea’s home draw against Watford. Guus Hiddink went on to say:

“[Eden] Hazard came back in the last week and had two training sessions and we hope he can be fully fit”.

Unconfirmed reports, however, suggest Hazard left Stamford Bridge limping after the 2-2 draw.

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew has been dealt a bitter blow in the final third after revealing that Yannick Bolasie and Connor Wickham are set to be sidelined for up to four weeks.

Patrick Bamford is a doubt to face Swansea tomorrow, whilst Pardew played down knocks to both Scott Dann and Damien Delaney:

“I didn’t have an option to substitute them, they were fine, they are a couple of warriors. They played well today, it was a very difficult game, tactically, physically, mentally. We need to rest now before our next game on Monday.”

Leicester
Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy were withdrawn during yesterday’s loss at Liverpool due to fatigue, Claudio Ranieri has confirmed. The Foxes boss also revealed that Vardy played through illness at Anfield:

“I hope we can recover. Now it is important we recover physically but more mentally. We have another big match coming up, another big challenge. Both were tired and Vardy played with a fever and I didn’t want to give him more minutes. I wanted to preserve him.”

Liverpool
Divock Origi started up front in the Reds’ win over Leicester but was subbed off before the break due to a hamstring problem, according to Jurgen Klopp:

“They spoke about a little cramp. We will see. I hope it’s not too serious. We have the next game in three days and six days the next, nine days the next – I hope he can play in one of these games.”

Daniel Sturridge has declared himself fit for the midweek trip to Sunderland, whilst Jordan Ibe is a doubt after missing out through illness yesterday.

Man City
City have concerns over Vincent Kompany yet again after he emerged from the bench against Sunderland only to limp off within 10 minutes. Post-match, Manuel Pellegrini conceded his captain has suffered a recurrence of his calf injury:

“It is not the best news for Vincent. He was ready to return – I didn’t want him to play the whole game because we have to play so many games. He worked the whole week with normality and it is difficult to see what happened. We will see tomorrow with the doctor’s report. It is the same injury – his calf.”

The Chilean also went on to issue an update on Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Leicester:

“Kun was on the bench in case we needed him in the second half. In three days, we have a difficult game at Leicester and then 10 games in January. He had a small problem so it was better for him not to take any risks. We were winning 3-0 in the first half so it was better for him to rest. He will be 100% on Tuesday. Zabaleta and Fernando worked over the last two or three days but although they are fit, they are not ready. Against Watford, both of them will be in the squad.”

Southampton
Ronald Koeman has revealed that both Graziano Pelle and Cedric Soares will remain on the sidelines with the injuries that caused both to miss last night’s home win over Arsenal:

“Both players will be out for Monday. They need more time and we have to see how long everything takes until they are back to full training. Graziano is struggling for a few weeks now with his knee. We had a plan to give him some days off doing treatment and no training.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed Sheridan Shaqiri “will be ok” after the Swiss international was withdrawn against United yesterday. Glenn Whelan (calf) is a doubt, whilst Hughes is “hopeful” on Geoff Cameron, who was subbed off with a recurrence of a hamstring problem.

Tottenham
Mousa Dembele is doubtful for Spurs’ clash with Watford, according to Mauricio Pochettino:

“It’s a knock on the same ankle but we hope it’s not a big issue. We’ll assess tomorrow and see if he is ready for Monday.”

West Ham
Slaven Bilic is sweating over the fitness of both James Tomkins and Aaron Cresswell after the full-back pair were forced off during the Hammers’ draw at Villa:

“It’s very frustrating to have both full-backs out of the game [during the course of it]. With Tomkins it’s a situation that long-term it’s nothing serious but his eye is shut and the problem is the game is in a couple of days time. Cresswell, he felt some tightness and it was a precaution [to take him off]. We have to wait until tomorrow.”

    GTG?

    Butland
    Bellerin Dawson Walker
    KDB Özil(c) Ramsey Mahrez
    Aguero Lukaku(vc) Vardy

    (Hennesey Alli Dann Simpson)

    FT: 1
    ITB: 2.3

          Yeah, tough one that...
          Dare to Vardy?
          It's also likely Bellerin may be rested, so that might fit nicely for you.

            Id rather keep Vardy and have him autoswitch for Alli if he doesnt play...

            Changed defence to:
            Hennesey
            Bellerin Dann Walker

            Subs: (Butland Alli Dawson Simpson)
            If Bellerin is rested, he's switched with Dawson
            If Vardy is rested, he's switched with Alli

            Sounds like a plan?

            KDB Özil Ramsey(c) Mahrez
            Aguero Lukaku(vc) Vardy

        As a great man once said, I have a plan. Leaving Aguero out for the next 2 but want 2 City/Arsenal mids.

        Currently have KDB, Sterling & Ozil.

        How do you like Albrighton (5th mid) to Walcott (C) whilst keeping Vardy as 1st bench cover? Then when the time is right Vardy to Aguero and Sterling to a 5th mid.

        Arsene Wenger is a master at excuses. How can you blame the referee when you are on the end of a 4-0 scoreline...
        Can't remember any other manager who has been on the end of so many big score lines as much as Wenger and kept their job!

          Wenger shouldn't be sacked. It's too knee jerk. Arsenal have some great results and then poor ones. Plus, Arsenal couldn't get a better manager.

        Out of these, who would you play?

        Goalkeepers-

        1. Butland (eve)
        2.Henessey (SWA)?

        Defenders-

        3. Bellerin (BOU)
        4. Sagna (lei)
        5. Ward (SWA
        6. Moreno (sun)
        7. Bennett (AVL)

          I have the same 2 keepers and I'm playing Hennessey.
          As for your defenders, I'd play Bellerin, Ward and Moreno

        Coutinho/Barkley --> KDB
        Vardy --> Kane

        Can only do one of them this GW. Which should I do first? (No Spurs/City coverage)

        I see a lot of people on here who are planning to captain Ramsey over Özil?
        Is it only because of his explosiveness or am I missing something?

          Explosiveness and perhaps being more nailed to some.

          Few suggestions that Mesut is due a rest at some point. Don't know if that would encompass the Bournemouth game though

        Care to help out for a second, gents?

        A) Coutinho -> Ramsey
        B) Mane -> Ramsey

        1) Vardy -> Aguero
        2) Vardy -> Ighalo

        Or two of these transfers for a hit?

          Despite his assist, I think it's time to ditch Mane. Couthinho has Sunderland. Not sure about the 2nd moves. Check my post below

          I'd keep Mane because they have decent fixtures and there's always a chance of an explosion. Coutinho has Sunderland so I'm not sure you should remove.

          Because you aren't getting Ramsey by the above reasoning, maybe get Giroud in for Vardy? DK if you have him already, though.

          If you do, then maybe Aguero out of those options... sure there isn't anything else you can do?

          Tough.

          The robot algorithm from another parish has just published and says Ozil / Ramsey / Aguero as the order

          I'm not too keen on Ozil as captain, I'm happier just carrying him. So it's between Ramsey and Aguero for me. Leaning toward Ramsey at the moment, but I've changed my mind a few times today!

        Is it time to ditch Vardy? I've now come to a point where I consider benching him. Bojan has some good fixtures and Ighalo keeps his run going.

          I'm either benching or getting rid. Was nearly invisible vs. Liverpool, looked tired, as did Mahrez.

          Not sure if I should do Vardy --> Kane or Vardy --> Aguero, though. I've been burned by Aguero before, but at the same time I'd love to be less template-y.

          Ivanovic, Pieters. Do you have Butland? If not, bench Fonte probably. Low ownership won't hurt you unless you're trying to be different and chase points.
