The ScoutCast – Episode 180 – Whistle

Just minutes after the final whistle blew on Gameweek 21, Jonty, Andy and myself braved the airwaves to pick the bones out of our meagre midweek tallies.

Brought back down to earth by a decidedly lacklustre floodlit affair, we rouse ourselves to debate the Aguero armband, the rapidly increasing speed of the Payet bandwagon and the theories behind the stuttering United backline.

We even make our dedication to the departed David Bowie, before quickly ushering out our disappointment of the Gameweek just past by previewing the one that lies ahead.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first broadcast via our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening.

Would really appreciate some ideas on this lot. Currently contemplating selling Ward for Simpson of even Davies.

    2 FTs and 0.6 ITB.

    Butland
    Bellerin - Ward - Ogbonna
    Silva - Ozil - Payet - Mahrez
    Lukaku - Kane - Aguero

    Hennessey ; Alli - Moreno - Dawson

I don't think he is nailed, but he's currently keeping Rose out of the team and doing a decent job. 4 playable defenders to cover him, I think he may be worth the punt

Also , when looking at average positions , its good to be further forward but is also important to be central as shots have higher conversion rate from central areas + in wide areas you cross the ball a lot

Kane is the more central than Alli/Lamela

I replied on last page. Position not really what matters when it comes to Dembele / Kane relationship. Its where he receives the passes to be threatening. He comes way to deep to get a pass now, while with dembele his position is the same i would say but the passes received are in the dangerous areas. Where big difference and a thing to look at.

        1. Eden Hazardous
          • 9 Years

I am not having it....it doesn't matter where he gets his passes...it matters where he shoots from.....Kane has been posting good numbers with/without Dembele

Also , Kane has played only 3 matches without Dembele in the last 10...3 matches is a very small sample size

Lastly , it does not matter having this discussion as Dembele will start this GW

Woah, go easy on your tone there mate. You sound a bit rude. 🙂

It does matter where he is getting the passes tbh. If he gets them deep, he has to dictate the play from the center, whereas if he got them further forward, one touch and he could take a shot away.

Sorry but it really gets on my nerves that Kane is being equated to Dembele....

Correlation does not equal to causation....

Also , is there any concrete evidence other than watching the games that Kane gets his passes deeper when Dembele is not playing?

I have watched the matches and Kane creats a lot of his chances by his excellent movement which is not dependent on Dembele but rather on Eriksen/Lamela

My opinion is that irrespective of Dembele/Alli/Lamela, the way Kane is playing right now is the Rooney-type where he is everywhere from DM to Striker even in a single match.

He is still getting decent chances, but for a premium striker, we want him to be receiving 4-5 good chances per match rather than 0 or 1.

I am an owner btw, and in spite of Dembele/Alli/Lamela will hold Kane through the nice run in spite of his price drops fwiw

He does drop deep. Almost where Rooney used to drop while playing behind RvP and Welbeck a lot of times.

Watching games and determining the positions through your eyes over stats has always been preferred by me and most on here. I agree I am someone who loves stats, but then again, stats could be deceiving. 😉

No one argues he doesnt drop without dembele. Who said that is wrong, i am saying he doesnt drop as much and the passes he receives are closer to goal most of the times and in more dangerous positions.

It can get on your nerves, but doesnt mean you are right. Nor me.
No one says that Kane = Dembele. The argument is that he is more threatening with him in the team. Simple argument really.

Watching games is the biggest argument? Really not sure what else would you want? Stats? Well Mignolet is the best GK in 2015 when you look at CS he kept, does it make it true? Stats can be misleading as i said numerous times.

Its still 30% of the matches. Not bad if you put it that way. Way bigger than some sample sizes in bigger case studies. Most take less than 5% to establish trends in some areas when it comes to TV shows (insert whatever here) and what not and see how people react.

Thing is Kane's position changes too much with Dembele and without Dembele. It's easy to spot that Kane gets handed the role to drop deep when he is not on field. I thught about it the same way, about sample size in the first game it happened. But then after reading a few fans' takes and watching a couple of games, the evidence is there.

          2. Prøphet

It absolutely matters where he gets the ball honestly. If he gets it deeper means he lays it off or plays it forward to Lamela or Alli for example. We work with what we have. His shots came outside of the box and not as threatening, bar that post he hit.

Well its a decent enough sample size with the improved Dembele from last season.

I do believe it affects him and they play more to him and start attacks differently, but to each its own.

I'm not impressed by neither Kun nor KdB so far but I can quickly go Kane or Lukaku -> Kun when I see him ready. I think CPL will defend for dear life this gw so maybe I get Kun for Kane in two gameweeks when he has sunderland.

Not for me, I used to do this but it only limits options going forward. Davies will get rotated and one of your defenders would go out of form or get rotated and you'll be cursing your backline.

Not sure they are a better defensive unit actually. Especially recently!

I have Walker who averages more BAP's then all of them and offers some attacking threat (1 goal, 1 assist)

Dier is pretty poor in the BAP department but does pick up goals. (3 goals, 0 assists)

Has Watford s form dipped now? And will ighalo he a little less prolific?

Does the draft league allow subs? If so you can always start him n have a replacement sub him if he starts. I could be wrong but Arsene doesn't tend to bring him in for s cameo if he doesn't start him
