The ScoutCast – Episode 180 – Whistle

Just minutes after the final whistle blew on Gameweek 21, Jonty, Andy and myself braved the airwaves to pick the bones out of our meagre midweek tallies.

Brought back down to earth by a decidedly lacklustre floodlit affair, we rouse ourselves to debate the Aguero armband, the rapidly increasing speed of the Payet bandwagon and the theories behind the stuttering United backline.

We even make our dedication to the departed David Bowie, before quickly ushering out our disappointment of the Gameweek just past by previewing the one that lies ahead.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first broadcast via our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening.

Is he a fantasy prospect though? Defensive midfielders hardly are.

Who do you guys think is the best left back in the league this season?

Any different from the question of who do you think is the best left back overall?

Really hard to say. Some full backs are exceptional players these days covering more ground than most. Some very good ones play for some of the worst teams oddly, as well as the better teams.

Sounds mad but Ben Davies has been excellent. But probably Monreal so far.

I think Luke Shaw is the best in the league (big statement I know) but he is obviously injured. Azpi is also class but his form has been poor.

Nah...He's great for this game but the reality is in terms of defending is he's avg, no more, no less. He's a midfielder playing as a defender as far as I can see.

      Monreal this season

Azpi overall, Baines is close as I think he still has something left in his tank.

The quality of fullbacks in the premierleague is quite low when compared to other top leagues.

Yeah Andy, that's the thing - at the moment you can have Kane, Lukaku, Aguero and a decent midfield and defence and no real areas you'd need to spend any extra cash saved by not getting Aguero. Even with Sanchez back and in form, I think I'll just shift KDB to him if needed. There's two midfield spots that can be used on cheaper guys like Payet, Mahrez, Alli, Arnie etc, and unless you're not playing with a cheap 5th bench warmer, it only leaves two other spots, and Ozil has one sewn up...

I've been recollecting all the songs and playing everything to death again. 69 is far too young to die but it was a wonder he got through the 70s tbh.

I'm not one for changing gravs. I believe you lose your identity on here once you go down that path.

I truly believe we will never quite see a creative force quite like Bowie. It's hard to imagine anyone doing what he did to music.

I guess it's harder to revolutionise music in quite the same way as Bowie, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Kraftwerk et al did now. People still do it, Public Enemy/Eric B & Rakim/Nas in hip hop, Radiohead have done unbelievable things in the last 20 years, people like Aphex Twin and Four Tet, but no one has really spanned as many styles and guises as Bowie. A true genius.

The ONLY positive from his death is that it has made people go through his back catalogue again. Hunky Dory, Ziggy, Aladdin Sane, Station to Station, Low, Lodger, Heroes, Scary Monsters - an incredible number of astonishing albums.

    Moreno, Darmian, VvD, Bellerin, Ward
    Özil, Mahrez, Payet, KdB, Alli
    Kane, Lukaku, Ighalo

    1FT + 1.2m ITB.

Kind of feel that there's too much tied up in defence. Not getting many returns from Moreno or Darmian.

    Any glaringly obvious changes needed?

Agree with your comments about defence, seems sensible to make some changes there.

But no need to change others either, unless you want to out Ighalo for a big hitter.

      Morning Sporting.

Worth throwing a Leicester defender in there or West Ham for a few weeks?

I'd switch Darmian for either Cresswell, Walker, azpi or Sagna.

I'd switch Moreno for either Walker, Williams, Fuchs or a cheeky punt on PvA.

Williams? I only got him for last GW and I'm already looking shot! 😆

It was a relegation battle. Was always going to be an open game. Swansea couldn't rely on a patient game.

Darmian > Cresswell? It can wait however.

Morning gents, how does Dawson -> Walker sound??

Is there a better move I'm missing here. 0.1 in the bank

    DDG
    Bellerin / Kolarov / Ward / Dawson / Moreno
    Ozil / Mahrez / KDB / Alli / Stanislas
    Aguero / Lukaku / Kane

I think that moves looks quite sound. Mid and forward lines looks quite well balanced.

    Cech
    Toby - Cresswell - VVD
    Payet - Ozil - Mahrez - KDB(vc) - Alli
    Kane(c) - Vardy

Ozil seems a bit tired lately and with CL coming back, against Barca.. they can hit a rock bottom moral and lose everything.. as usual.. anyway!
