Premier Punt Focus – Gameweek 23

Next up this Friday afternoon, we take time to check out the Premier Punt game as I reveal my plans for the upcoming round of fixtures.

This Week’s Games

There are two big guaranteed pots for this weekend’s matches on PremierPunt – the largest contest has a £350 pot with a £5 entry fee and it’s possible to enter three line-ups. A good entry point game is the £100 guaranteed pot which has just a £2 buy-in, whilst there’s also a £100 pot for a £10 fee.

Meanwhile, for the high-rollers there’s a £50 contest – with the winner taking all the money.

They also offer a unique single-game format for each fixture – these contests are quick to enter with no budget and only five picks are needed with at least one player from each team. This week there’s a free entry contest for the last match of the Gameweek as Chelsea travel to the Emirates. The winner takes the whole £25 pot here and three five-man selections can be entered. Arsenal have won seven of their last eight at home but it could be a tight encounter against Guus Hiddink’s side, who are unbeaten in their previous six league matches.

My Team

Everton players form the spine of my team this week, given that only Man City have scored more goals at home. The Toffees welcome a Swansea side that have shut out their opponents just once away from home all season and have failed to score in three of the last five road trips. Two assists against Chelsea were a reminder of Leighton Baines’ (6.5m) attacking threat and generous pricing makes the full-back the first pick.

Although I considered taking a punt on Gerard Deulofeu (9.2) or Kevin Mirallas (8.2), the former is classed as a forward and the latter has had limited pitch time this season, so I settle instead for Ross Barkley (10.4) here, though the afore-mentioned duo may appear in some of my other line-ups. Romelu Lukaku (12.3) completes the trio – I can’t see many teams not selecting the Belgian so it’s a big risk to go without and the 14-goal frontman is a prime candidate for the captain’s armband.

Hugo Lloris (7.1) gets the keepers’ spot. Spurs have the meanest defence in the league, conceding only 18 goals so far and travel to a Crystal Palace side that have failed to score in five outings. I double up on the Tottenham defence with Toby Alderweireld (7.6) – if it’s a tight match at Selhurst Park, the centre-back’s set-piece threat could deliver a goal. I can’t ignore Patrick Van Aanholt’s (7.6) form after the full-back has scored in three successive matches – the visit of Bournemouth provides a chance for points at both ends of the pitch.

In midfield I’ve gone for Jordan Henderson (7.0), mainly as I didn’t have space for Roberto Firmino in my front line as Liverpool travel to Norwich. The Reds’ captain looks to be approaching full fitness after starting the last two league matches and firing five attempts against United last weekend. Dele Alli (7.4) makes it a full complement of Spurs players. The youngster has netted in three of his last four road trips and offers a cheap route into the Tottenham attack as an alternative to Harry Kane. I’ve gone for a budget option to provide funds for the forwards in the shape of Jesse Lingard (5.0) – for that price tag, any points will be welcome, though the United winger has started the last two and scored against Newcastle, so could provide some good value returns.

Up front, Sergio Aguero’s (16.0) display against Palace, producing a brace and assist, confirmed that the Argentine is back to his undroppable best ahead of a trip to West Ham. The final member of my team is Wayne Rooney (12.8). The United captain has a tendency to score in patches and, with five goals in four, looks to be bang in form as Southampton visit Old Trafford.

The Bottom Line

Another successful week for myself with high-placed finishes in both the big pot (fourth) and £100 game (second) with almost £50 of winnings leaving me on just over £300. John Gordon took the top spot in the £350 guaranteed pot. A triple up of the Bournemouth defence paid off with Charlie Daniels contributing 15 points, whilst in midfield, Georgiano Wijnaldum provided a healthy 10 points and captain Sergio Aguero proved the key ingredient to a total score of 77 points.

This Week’s Stake

I place two teams into the big £350 pot as usual and also enter two line-ups into the £2 game. I’ve also put three line-ups into the free single game.

Stake – £14
Current Balance – £286

      Can see Arsenal Chelsea being another 0-0, but without the Mou factor it might be a different story - Chelsea looking porous at the back

      Probably Mert here - just. Moreno I got rid of a while ago but one of his terrible crosses may, eventually, find its mark.

    never been first o.O

    Butland - McCarthy
    Alderweireld - Bellerin - Sagna - Ward - Simpson
    De Bruyne - Ozil - Payet - Mahrez - Stanislas
    Aguero - Kane - Lukaku

    2 FT, 0.9m itb

    not sure what to do as Sanchez still needs a week IMO, thinking either Mahrez out for Barkley/Wij or maybe Sagna > Baines? want to save my 2nd FT until Sanchez is ready in case I need a double move

    thoughts? something else maybe?

      Maybe Sagna to someone less rotation prone - you have your cash ITB for later investment in your squad which is good, but you can always get more.

      I'd say Sagna to Targett and keep the money you'll receive for after this week when DGWs are announced

    Butland Hennessey
    Dawson Dier Moreno Ward Smith
    Özil Ramsey Payet Mahrez Alli
    Agüero Lukaku Giroud

    2 FT 0,3 ITB

    A) Mahrez & Ward => Barkley & Targett
    B) Ramsey & Smith => Barkley & Jagielka
    C) Ramsey & Mahrez => Barkley & Wijnaldum
    D) Ramsey & Giroud => Barkley & Kane
    E) Ramsey => Barkley and save the other transfer

      Be tempted to go E here - no need to take the double yet:
      - Ward has good fixtures coming up after this week
      - Smith is good bench fodder for 4.1
      - Mahrez could perform vs. Stoke
      - Giroud is still worthy of consideration as a striker - keep under watch but no need to shift yet. Maybe next week once Sanch is back.

    wenger, being an all or nothing manager and sanchez being an all or nothing player, i personally expect him to be in the starting line up. despite wenger's quotes, one would imagine his hubris vs an out-of-sorts chelsea will be a temptation to get one over on the blues. thoughts?

      Sanchez is fit even when he's injured (according to himself), if he's ready to be on the bench, he'll probably persuade Wenger to start him. Sanchez - Giroud - Campbell should be the front 3.

      He already got one over on Chelsea and Mou in the comminity shield. I think the match will be more about hanging on to 1st place than getting one over Chelsea.

      I think the established pattern for a big player coming back is:
      - Off the bench for 30 mins
      - Next game 60-70
      - Next game 80
      - Then full 90s

      Remember we have cup and Champions League games coming up - Cup game is key chance for Sanchez to play that 60-70.

    I have 2 FT, but I only want to use 1 this week, and I have 0.1 in the bank. The only players who I'd want to change are:

    Elliot, Hennessey.

      hmm - maybe Bellers out for someone of lower price to get some money ITB for upcoming transfers you're planning? He's not getting the BP and appears to only sporadically get the FPL points, despite playing well if you watch.

      - Cresswell is always an attacking threat in an FPL sense. I'd play him vs. City without hesitation if I had him
      - Keepers need work but you need more itb to make a difference there
      - Ake can rot as 4/5th sub
      - Stan is a good option, still, in the 5th mid budget category

        He's always been a successful pick for me. Won my ML a few years back with a Walcott goal on the last day of the season, so good memories. Just don't know what's up with him this year though.

      Much lower goal output than his stats suggest he should get. You'd think his returns would increase.

      It'll be interesting to see what Wenger does with Alexis returning. When all were fit, Wally was starting every game up front. But Giroud is in great form.

        I think Wenger is running out of patience with him. With 1 x FT remaining this week and Sanchez returning, it makes sense to stick for now and make the move next week.

    Really stuck this week. Got a terrible D, so should prob start to address taht - esp given upcoming blanks.

    Butland McCarthy*
    Moreno Bellerin Williams* Simpson Oxford*

    A) Williams -> Evans
    B) Oxford -> Targett
    C) McCarthy -> Hennessey / Elliot

    A seems sensible short term (given fixtures), but B + C likely to help more ahead of GW27

      Hey mate - thought I'd answer you since you'd been left unanswered 🙂

      Leave your keepers - no need for that headache. Keep Butters all year.

      I'd be tempted by A. Good fixtures and you can forget about that 3rd defender slot for a while - Moreno has good fixtures and Arsenal can usually pull off a cleanie with big Petr in goal.

      Hope that helps!

      Depends if you're using 1FT up or you have 2.

      IF you have 1, I'd hold - Mahrez could perform, as could Ivan.

      IF you have 2, I'd say look at Bainesy. Mahrez home vs. Stoke should be a good time for him to sort his form out

              Because of him? He's not even a starter....they lost the game against United because Klopp didn't put him on the pitch at the right time. Milner, Henderson and others wasted all the opportunities created by Firmino.

    I got 2 questions. Would you play Daniels instead of Alli,(for differential value)
    1. by buying Daniels with your FT?
    2. if you already had Daniels?

    1. Twisted Saltergater
      • 14 Years

      I bought Daniels this week. I'd start Alli ahead of him tbh.

        8 years, 3 months ago

        Actually I'm considering benching Alli while Daniels is in my team, so scrap what I just said!

        I'd save a FT and play Alli, ideally.

            Ha, I did Kolarov > Daniels as it frees up funds to do Walcott > Sanchez (either this week or next). Baines was the alternative, I was considering.

            I'd bank the FT, mate. You don't know how valuable it may be next week.

      I have Daniels - had for a while expecting the haul that I eventually got 🙂

      I'm probably going to play him for the rest of the season now, too, just because of the potential NBNC upside every fixture

      Ergo, I'd try to find a way to accommodate Alli but I'd keep Daniels in for the potential double point hauls.

        Well played 😀 I looked at Daniels 6GWs ago but never got him. I missed out on his 18 but Williams covered for it. But still, his stats look great.
        Thing is I'll absolutely have to bench Alli if I get him.

    Probably one of the toughest decisions ive had to make this season, rival 15 pts behind and has Lukaku.

    How do I fit Lukaku in? / Do i go without?

    Cresswell, Azpi, Targett, Smith, Bellerin
    Payet, Ozil, Mahrez, KDB, Ali
    Ighalo, Kun, Kane

    0.1 itb and 2FT's.

    I can only see three feasible options:

    A.) Kane -> Lukaku and pray for a Kane blank.
    B.) KDB -> Barkley and Ighalo -> Lukaku
    C.) Get in Baines and Evans/ WBA defender
    D.) Do nothing and pray?

    Thanks for your help
