Premier Punt Focus – Gameweek 23

Next up this Friday afternoon, we take time to check out the Premier Punt game as I reveal my plans for the upcoming round of fixtures.

This Week’s Games

There are two big guaranteed pots for this weekend’s matches on PremierPunt – the largest contest has a £350 pot with a £5 entry fee and it’s possible to enter three line-ups. A good entry point game is the £100 guaranteed pot which has just a £2 buy-in, whilst there’s also a £100 pot for a £10 fee.

Meanwhile, for the high-rollers there’s a £50 contest – with the winner taking all the money.

They also offer a unique single-game format for each fixture – these contests are quick to enter with no budget and only five picks are needed with at least one player from each team. This week there’s a free entry contest for the last match of the Gameweek as Chelsea travel to the Emirates. The winner takes the whole £25 pot here and three five-man selections can be entered. Arsenal have won seven of their last eight at home but it could be a tight encounter against Guus Hiddink’s side, who are unbeaten in their previous six league matches.

My Team

Everton players form the spine of my team this week, given that only Man City have scored more goals at home. The Toffees welcome a Swansea side that have shut out their opponents just once away from home all season and have failed to score in three of the last five road trips. Two assists against Chelsea were a reminder of Leighton Baines’ (6.5m) attacking threat and generous pricing makes the full-back the first pick.

Although I considered taking a punt on Gerard Deulofeu (9.2) or Kevin Mirallas (8.2), the former is classed as a forward and the latter has had limited pitch time this season, so I settle instead for Ross Barkley (10.4) here, though the afore-mentioned duo may appear in some of my other line-ups. Romelu Lukaku (12.3) completes the trio – I can’t see many teams not selecting the Belgian so it’s a big risk to go without and the 14-goal frontman is a prime candidate for the captain’s armband.

Hugo Lloris (7.1) gets the keepers’ spot. Spurs have the meanest defence in the league, conceding only 18 goals so far and travel to a Crystal Palace side that have failed to score in five outings. I double up on the Tottenham defence with Toby Alderweireld (7.6) – if it’s a tight match at Selhurst Park, the centre-back’s set-piece threat could deliver a goal. I can’t ignore Patrick Van Aanholt’s (7.6) form after the full-back has scored in three successive matches – the visit of Bournemouth provides a chance for points at both ends of the pitch.

In midfield I’ve gone for Jordan Henderson (7.0), mainly as I didn’t have space for Roberto Firmino in my front line as Liverpool travel to Norwich. The Reds’ captain looks to be approaching full fitness after starting the last two league matches and firing five attempts against United last weekend. Dele Alli (7.4) makes it a full complement of Spurs players. The youngster has netted in three of his last four road trips and offers a cheap route into the Tottenham attack as an alternative to Harry Kane. I’ve gone for a budget option to provide funds for the forwards in the shape of Jesse Lingard (5.0) – for that price tag, any points will be welcome, though the United winger has started the last two and scored against Newcastle, so could provide some good value returns.

Up front, Sergio Aguero’s (16.0) display against Palace, producing a brace and assist, confirmed that the Argentine is back to his undroppable best ahead of a trip to West Ham. The final member of my team is Wayne Rooney (12.8). The United captain has a tendency to score in patches and, with five goals in four, looks to be bang in form as Southampton visit Old Trafford.

The Bottom Line

Another successful week for myself with high-placed finishes in both the big pot (fourth) and £100 game (second) with almost £50 of winnings leaving me on just over £300. John Gordon took the top spot in the £350 guaranteed pot. A triple up of the Bournemouth defence paid off with Charlie Daniels contributing 15 points, whilst in midfield, Georgiano Wijnaldum provided a healthy 10 points and captain Sergio Aguero proved the key ingredient to a total score of 77 points.

This Week’s Stake

I place two teams into the big £350 pot as usual and also enter two line-ups into the £2 game. I’ve also put three line-ups into the free single game.

Stake – £14
Current Balance – £286

Why are people transferring out Ighalo coming into a home tie with Newcastle when he's a proven flat track bully?

Not receiving many balls because the team is tired and plays badly plus bad fixtures after Newcastle. Also, they're trying to break the template.

Form and stats. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if we flock back once we ditch the expensive attack in favour of the big price midfield (return of Sanchez, Silva, and dare I say Hazard? Ok maybe that's a step too far! )

I ditched him for aguero before Xmas, but I'll consider getting him back once I'm ready to drop Kane or Lukaku. Right now it's obvious why you'd want that front 3.

Nice differential. Unless the midfield parks the bus, the Newcastle defence is awful.

Ah nice. Who are the regulars there?

I got relegated from div 1 a coupla seasons back, during my first go. 😳 Fighting it out in div 2 now...must say, its pretty tight despite me being at the bottom end. Team went to sh*te when Payet got injured. Dropped from 1st to 15th now. Hoepfully, his return sparks my revival. 🙂

            What's your roster like?

I had a pretty good team as well but since the injury of Cazorla and Shaw , I am struggling

Still in the top half (barely at 9th) , I have Lamela , Antonio , Zouma , Bellerin as my only decent players tho 🙁

              P.S - I have 3 keepers.... 😛

Nice. You're the Balders of div 3 then, hoarding all the keepers. 🙂 I have Myhill, and he generously traded me his Rudd for my picked up Olsson recently.

Not sure if I should drop Myhill this week to grab a recently dropped Janmaat...afraid Janmaat might disappear if I don't make the move. hhmmm

Already got Dawson as well, and a back up keeper.

My team has 7 defenders atm. 😆

                P.S.
You should pick up Borthwick-Jackson this week, if he's still free...smart pick up, imo.

Oooh thanks for the top tip

I scoured through all left..somehow missed him 😳

                  7 defenders! 😮
How? Don't pick Janmaat imo , he has had 0 attack potential this year , go for Clichy/Bunn/Mirallas(?) maybe?

Sometimes people miss picks because they don't pop up under certain names?

Like Kolo Toure didn't pop up under one of his names, had to search under the other. Managed to sneak him in this week despite him starting a few already. 🙂

I have no idea! I've got:
Dawson, Pieters, Francis, Ogbonna, Koscielny, Kolo Toure and I should add Borthwick Jackson tonight.
All but Dawson & Kosc are pick ups, I believe. Needed to strengthen my defence since I missed out on a lot of the attacking picks.

Cheers 🙂 Think I'll just keep Myhill and leave out Janmaat! All those mentioned aren't available.

Anyway, best of luck with the rest of the season, in both FPL and Fantrax.

Bunn must be with Balders , eh?

Toure is a decent pick.....Demichellis might be another one (as Mangala is injured). That defence is pretty darn good....I think this a shrewd tactic in a draft league

A Pardew side in decline has a history of getting worse and worse and West Brom have some great home fixtures coming up - set piece goals and clean sheets almost guaranteed.

            ah. thank you sir

Myhill is most definitely an issue but by doing this I get myself probably the best defender in FPL and buy myself sometime to see who has a DGW and act accordingly in terms of getting a keeper and a defender for a DGW and this leaves me the option of getting some attackers

Daniels: NBNC, the new Baines - essential?

I'm playing him for the rest of the season I think after last week's 18 pointer. Potential for double point hauls regardless of fixture.

Fair enough mate - I'm just thinking though, what other defender has penalties? Yes I accept that Benik could take pens off of him, but there's so much potential upside that it makes it a bit of a boon to me, especially given how unpredictable CS' are this season.

Difficult one - depends how much Spurs coverage you have already.

If you have the template of Toby and Kane already I'd be tempted to bench Alli and play Mahrez - if Palace turn it round then you end up with 3 players potentially returning 6 points which ain't great.

Fifa 15 is a shaky installment to the (I HATE this term) franchise.

      - They didn't update the engine so we're still playing with FIFA 12/13, it's basically just the same as a XB360/PS3 game only with flashy graphics
      - Keepers are notoriously awful - imperious at corners one minute then randomly diving over the ball the next
      - Innumerable stupid penalty decisions that call into question the football knowledge of the coders - lose count of the amount of times I get the ball in the box via a slide tackle OR one of their players falls over my keeper which is doing the "dive" animation but upends one of their attackers

It's good feature and content wise, but the gameplay itself has been poor.

I would swap to PES BUT the lack of official licences is annoying.

I remember playing PES (I think it was about 06 or 07) with my housemates at uni

I fouled my mate over by the touchline. Had no issue with the foul, it was blatantly. I was getting ready to set myself up to defend the free kick, then the screen came back on and he had a penalty. None of us could believe it, it's the most bizarre thing I have ever seen

Ha my fave comment all week 🙂 so nostalgic!

I remember on that game I was playing my cousin - I lobbed the keeper from 60 yards pressing O (B on an Xbox) (that was the game where if you had a FK from the centre circle the keeper would inexplicably stand on the edge of his box everytime)

When the ball went "in", it had actually gone wide according to the animations but the net itself had moved to the right of the goal and it counted, even though the replay showed it had clearly gone 5 yards wide of goal.

          Perfect.

Roonpig.com or Firmino are your men:

      - Roonpig scores in runs, definitely a form player. Could continue vs. Saints, even if they are resurgent.
      - Firmino at a low ownership figure (quoted already) could surprise - we all love an OoP on FFS 🙂

    My team for the weekend
    Myhill
    Jagielka, Alderweireld, Simpson
    Firmino, Alli, Ozil, KDB
    Lukaku, Aguero, Kane

    Subs, Butland, Arnoutovic, Williams, Souare

My question is, who to play, Myhill or Butland, Alli or Arnoutovic?

Myhill - if he starts his fixture is much better
Alli - always performs well in easy away fixtures

Myhill - good CS potential, and if Foster plays you have Butters anyway
Alli - does well away from home (Arnie not so much (that Everton game was an anomaly imo), plus he's carrying an injury)

Just going to throw it out there... although I have Aguero, I don't get why people are tripping over themselves and taking a hammer to their teams to get him in this week. West Ham will be a difficult match but more importantly I don't think he's near the top of his game yet. Thought he looked average vs Palace, who were desperately unlucky to be 2-0 down at halftime courtesy of Hennessey fumbling a hopeless Delph potshot and a really flukey Aguero deflection. Whole first half Aguero looked quite wasteful missing half chances and dallying on the ball too long. When analysed in basic stats it shows he had touches and shots which should be encouraging but to anyone watching the match it wasn't. Second half, Palace heads dropped and as they chased it, the game got more stretched and City picked them off, by literally walking 2 goals into the net. Aguero did well for Silva's goal but by then there were enormous amounts of space for them to exploit.
So a flukey deflection, a tap in he couldn't miss, and an assist for a counter attack goal when the match was already over... not sure it warrants the hype i've been reading here actually thought he played a far better match against Everton where he obviously got no attacking returns.

If you have 2FTs swap out.

If you have 1, keep and hope he plays - otherwise sort it out next week. No need to spend a transfer on a keeper unless 100% necessary imo

Hey mate - you haven't been answered so figured I would 🙂

I'd keep Wardinho - great fixtures coming up (I'm playing Dann, so if we go down we go down together hehe)

Maybe leave it this week - DC has a history with Arsenal and could well be the difference.

You're in a similar situation to me, so maybe hold out for now and deal with it after the Cups break.

      Hope that helps!

He's still only 21 percent ownership
I rose 100k places last week to 230 k because of his points.

He was at home to CP who have let in 8 in the last 3 games

This week away to WH who have let in 4 in their last 6 games.

Snatching at one result does not mean you're wrong, but I'd be loathe to take too much from the result.
