The ScoutCast – Episode 182 – Hollow

So I did it. After a couple of weeks attempting to resist Sergio Aguero and, despite meticulously constructing a convincing case to avoid him, I went back on my word.

Recovering from the dramatic climb-down, I felt rather hollow heading into this ScoutCast, with Jonty, Andy and Luke all too keen to watch on while I tucked into humble pie.

Not surprisingly, I spend a good part of this episode justifying the back tracking, before I join my co-hosts in offering views on another bout of community questions. We discuss the Lukaku exit plans, Ozil vs Sanchez and contemplate options between the sticks with Jack Butland losing his shine.

Then we move on to the Gameweek preview, as I desperately try to find some joy in pondering which mid-price defender to sign heading into Saturday’s deadline. Sigh.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first aired live on Wednesday evening via our YouTube channel.

You can view the full version via the larger player below, or soak up the more refined audio version via this link or the smaller player.

Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel for updates on new episodes.

NB: apologies in advance for Luke’s sound quality. We discovered a technical problem after the recording was completed. If you’re struggling to decipher what he’s saying, just imagine him agreeing with everything I say.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Firmino probably will outscore Payet this week but I don't think it's a good move in the long run. Norwich and Sunderland coming up next for Dimitri.

    Quiz:

I have the 16th most touches in the box over the last 8 gameweeks. I play for a team in the top end of the bottom half. You would be surprised at the reveal.

Excile to China to continue? Bids for Lavezzi, Gabi, Tiago and Fernando Torres on table.

Sure, these guys are all past their peak. I'd still be surprised if Atletico sold Gabi, who's very important for them. Tiago maybe, but I'd still rather expect them to need him for competing on two fronts. On Lavezzi and Torres there's understood to be the club's agreement.

🙄 Your point was that they can dump their _unwanted_ players in China. Teixeira is the most valuable and wanted asset of Shaktar. Unwanted players would be rather these Chelsea and PSG dropouts (although Ramires and Lavezzi certainly are not _unwanted_), but PSG and Chelsea are definitely no selling clubs. So, your point was pretty much opposite to the Teixeira sale.

If China becomes a quality and popular league, and that's a massive if, we're talking at least 10 years from now. Buying a handful of players for twice what normal clubs would pay does not make you relevant, it actually stamps your irrelevance.

Doubtful globally. The league runs off schedule from all major leagues and they can't compete in the CL.

The Asian markets may soon be more appealing than the European ones. After that, it's up to Americans to decide which they find more interesting. May be their own by that time.

Unlikely for top players IMO..just those seeking big salaries over big trophies.

Once the Chinese clubs start to beat the Europeans in the World Club Cup, that league trophy may seem bigger than the CL one. At least for South americans, if not for Europeans. But if European NT's stop winning the World Cups then soon the European football will mostly be of interest for Europeans only.

Well, I'm not saying this will happen any time soon, but my point is that thinking more globally, the things may even up pretty fast, in 10-15 years time, and then it's only from the rather marginal European perspective that the Asian competitions are marginal or uninteresting. Players choose City and PSG over Nottingham and Reims despite the greater history of the latter two. Why do you think they would be so interested in playing for a little money, in unsuccessful leagues that only have their history? You don't see Neymar and Ronaldo looking for a transfer to Hungary or Austria either, not even to the Netherlands that used to be a big league very recently.

They already have massive home markets. All it takes is to the Chinese to start to prefer the Chinese leagues to PL, and soon the PL's revenue plunge and China's sky rocket.

While that may be possible, it doesn't mean the actual top players will go there. Europe has prestige, you can't just buy it. They've bought players that big clubs didn't necessarily want (at least definitely not at the eventual prices).

See above. That prestige will mean little when money and the South Americans go. And you don't take into account that in future, a large part of the best players will come from Africa and Asia, and they may give no special prestige to Europe if it doesn't have that at the very moment when they start their professional careers.

They wouldn't probably still pay that much money for Lavezzi whose contract is running out. But yeah, I kind of agree on that one, and apparently the club is willing to let him go, although it is clear that the manager and the other players want him to stay as he's very much liked player there and a useful guy as a sub even.

I think Europeans are still very keen to stay in Europe, primarily, even if silly money was offered.

But, Torres, Gabi and Tiago are Europeans.

Balotelli. Now that's an idea. Would he actually be good enough for that league? Maybe for a season or two still.

Balotelli is still a great player, bar his personal lifestyle.
I think he still have something and that move might be just great.
Given the space, he can still score loads of goals and I don't think the Chinese are as physical as EPL and SerieA

Balo has never been a great player. But sure he has enough talent to be a just good player if he understood that he's not of the star quality and should not try too much by himself as he doesn't have the skill to do it.

I'm giving him the next two games then he's out. I hope he gets dropped personally being weak defensively. Both Leicester fiat's came from his side.

    Would anyone play AOA with

    Mahrez Alli Payet Firminho Ozil

    or

Play Simpson for Mahrez/Ozil and keep AOA for another day.

      No, would bench Alli..
Home stats are not great and more so he is doubtful, may not complete 90min

I am looking to bring in Ivanovic, for a hit possibly. I just need some CHE in my life 😀

Options to replace are Alder / Delaney , it seems logical to replace Delaney, but very nice fixtures coming up.
Also, i would play Ivanovic over Cresswell this GW.

    Thoughts?

It's between Mahrez or Payet. Maybe Payet as Southampton look very strong recently.

Probably Mahrez. I'd fancy Vardy to get something at ManC more than Mahrez. But it might go horribly wrong - most of us have a nasty Mahrez benching story in our recent history.

Yeah I know. It's a worry. But Vardy is on pens now. So might be worth benching Mahrez.

I am benching Mahrez. Alli wouldn't be a bad shout though. Home match. Watford are not the easiest defence to score against. And Alli does well against stubborn defences I think.

Wait what? *goes back to the drawing board.

For people considering 2 week punts before getting Vardy in GW27. Keep in mind you'll need all your FT's and more to field 11 com GW30, so that planned FT for Vardy effectively means a -4. Which is not worth it should Vardy score one against either Man City or Arsenal.

    1. Pasqualinho
      • 14 Years
      8 years, 3 months ago

It's true. But if Gru (e.g.) gets 10+ points then that -4 doesn't look so bad. I have gone for Vardy but it seems like it's more of a defensive option for us managers.

It's a big if though , punting on big hauls like that..

Trade lukaku to vardy now with evertons blanks coming up and then when everton have a dgw trade back vardy to lukaku?

      Yeah that's the rough idea

Makes sure you can put in a team out for the blanks in 27 (and 30), then load up on the dgw players later on

Thought the same last GW but stuck to Kun..
Cost me some points + a loss in my H2H, since my opponent captained Kane.
