This Much We Know – Gameweek 26

Our attentions turn to the weekend’s 10 matches now as we look for any pertinent lessons learned. Sunderland and West Ham’s playmakers produce the goods, Liverpool’s attack may need reassessing as the injuries ease, whilst Chelsea and Tottenham’s form men strengthen their differential appeal by picking up the points once again.

The cat is out of the bag with Khazri…
After earning both assists in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool, Sunderland’s new playmaker needed just two minutes in his first home start to get amongst the goals in a vital win over United. Khazri’s set-piece prowess also led to the Black Cats’ second as Big Sam’s side moved to just a single point from safety last weekend. With their momentum on the up, the 6.0-priced Tunisian already looks the catalyst as Sunderland attempt to pull off yet another great escape.

Everton’s inconsistency will prompt a Lukaku exodus…
It’s one goal in seven now for the big Belgian after the Toffees failed to find a way past a West Brom defence that rolled up to Goodison with just two clean sheets in 15. Certainly, Roberto Martinez’ men can’t be faulted for trying – they fired 33 efforts without success against the Baggies but with a blank Gameweek 27 looming large, it’s no real surprise to see that Lukaku has earned over 40,000 transfers out – almost double the number of any forward. A trip to Villa in Gameweek 28 may be tempting but the move to Jamie Vardy is becoming obvious, given the Foxes’ upcoming fixtures.

Payet’s end product is worth the wait…
The West Ham playmaker served a reminder of his Fantasy talents in a 2-2 comeback draw at Norwich. Payet’s output had been underwhelming since returning from injury – with five blanks in six prior to Carrow Road – but a 13-point haul, courtesy of a goal, assist and maximum bonus, took his average to 5.7 points per game – fourth amongst midfielders and on a par with the likes of Sergio Aguero. The cut-price Michail Antonio has offered value for money as a Hammers alternative but with Manuel Lanzini edging towards a comeback and Victor Moses also in contention, Payet remains the Hammers’ jewel in the crown.

Despite Costa’s form, it’s a case of just Willian…
A goal and assist in Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle continued the Chelsea striker’s fine recent showings. It’s seven goals and three assists in eight appearances under Guus Hiddink now for Costa, who, despite moving to just six points behind Sergio Aguero, remains in just 7% of Fantasy Premier League sides. With Aguero and Harry Kane nailed on for many, and with Jamie Vardy looking the obvious replacement for Romelu Lukaku, Costa’s propensity for picking up injuries and suspensions seems set to keep him off most Fantasy managers’ radars. Meanwhile, the 7.0-priced Willian moved to a single point behind the Hammers’ Payet after bagging his third double-figure haul since the departure of Jose Mourinho and continues to offer an excellent Blues alternative in the centre of the park.

Targett is back in the frame…
Having recovered from injury, the Southampton youngster was immediately reinstalled to the starting XI for the trip to Swansea. Despite netting the winner against West Ham, Maya Yoshida dropped back down to the bench as Targett returned to left wing-back in a 3-5-2, with Ronald Koeman preferring Ryan Bertrand in the back-three. After helping his side to a sixth straight clean sheet, the 3.9-priced Targett – who has now produced 35 points in his last four starts – looks back on the radar as a route into the league’s in-form defence.

Ranieri will sacrifice Mahrez flair…
Whilst Jamie Vardy benefitted from his role as Leicester’s new number one spot-kick taker, the Algerian’s owners were left with no more than a one-point haul after he was subbed off just before the hour-mark at the Emirates. For the second successive Gameweek, Mahrez was withdrawn early as Claudio Ranieri looked to tighten up defensively and protect a lead – this time as a result of Danny Simpson’s dismissal just minutes into the second half. As alluded to in last week’s Say What article, although Mahrez remains one of the first names on Ranieri’s team sheet, his minutes may well be somewhat restricted late on in matches depending on the circumstances in any given Gameweek.

We’re still unsure on Mertesacker….
A minor injury to Gabriel saw the German return to Arsene Wenger’s first XI for yesterday’s home clash with Leicester. Mertesacker had started 13 straight league outings before being sent off early on against Chelsea in Gameweek 24 and, in his absence, Gabriel certainly took his chance, helping the Gunners to successive clean sheets against Southampton and Bournemouth to suggest he could be a bargain buy at 4.3. One look at Arsenal’s remaining home matches (SWA, WBA, WAT, CPL, NOR, AVL) indicates that investment in their rearguard could reap reward, though for now, there still seems too much uncertainty over Laurent Koscielny’s central defensive partner to take the plunge.

Wenger’s attacking options might just be the title clincher…
Arsenal’s strength in depth paid off decisively against Leicester after subs Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck emerged from the bench to grab a goal apiece in the 2-1 comeback win. Whilst that’s good news for the Gunners’ title hopes, it merely adds to Wenger’s options in the final third – both are able to play out wide or up top and are starting to threaten Olivier Giroud’s security of starts, given that the Frenchman has netted in just one of his last seven. With Alexis Sanchez still firing blanks, the appeal of Mesut Ozil was again underlined by his last-minute assist for Welbeck’s winner – the German has played a part in 53.8% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, more than any midfielder in the top flight.

Sturridge and Coutinho could put Firmino back in his box….
With the Anfield treatment room finally emptying, the summer signing’s Fantasy potential took a turn for the worse despite a 6-0 rout over Villa. Moved away from his “false nine” berth as Jurgen Klopp shifted to 4-2-3-1 to accommodate Daniel Sturridge up top, Firmino’s single assist was overshadowed by a trio of assists from Philippe Coutinho at Villa Park. Given that he scored or assisted seven of his side’s previous 10 league goals, yesterday’s downturn in output suggests the summer signing may struggle to remain the best route into Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

Alli is distracting us from Eriksen’s appeal….
The Tottenham playmaker continues to remain under the radar as a result of Deli Alli’s far kinder price tag. At 8.5 to the youngster’s 6.0, Eriksen has been largely overlooked in what is turning out to be his most influential season at the Lane – yesterday’s winner at the Etihad helped him serve up a third double-figure haul in the last five Gameweeks. Both Alli and Eriksen have been in involved in 31% of Spurs’ goals when on the pitch, indicating that if price is no object, the Dane may well be worth the extra outlay.

Villa are barely playing for pride…
Steamrollered by Liverpool in a dire home display and with their only form player sparking a twitter storm and angering fans on the back of that 6-0 rout, Villa look down and out. With their morale on the downturn, Remi Garde’s side – who now find themselves eight points adrift of safety – are in danger of becoming whipping boys in any given Gameweek, with a trip to Stoke looking tailor-made for the Potters to take advantage.

Let's hear some Champions League fantasy teams!

      Here's mine atm.

      Sels/Oblak
      Alaba/Maxwell/Gimenez/Hector Moreno/Naldo
      Shatov/Pröpper/Willian/Di Maria/Pizzi
      Suarez/Jonas/CR7

      Thoughts?

I wouldn't pick a suspended player (Naldo). Knoche is 0.5 cheaper or you could pay 0.5 extra for Vierinha who plays oop if you want a Wolfsburg defender.

If you're picking PSV players for their price there's one even cheaper in defence.(Isimat-Mirin)

I was thinking about going with the same front 3 but now I'm not so sure when I remembered how easily Benfica lost 2 games against Zenit last season without any goals scored.

I like the doubling up on Atletico defence, but if you're so sure they will get the CS maybe pick a dead keeper, I'm pretty sure we'll need cash anywhere we can get it once lesser teams are knocked out.

          Good to know!
I've switched my frontline to CR7 - Suarez - Hulk. I can see Zenit-Benfica ending in a very high score and Zent are in excellent form.

          How's your team looking?

Well Zenit haven't played a competative match for 2 months so it's possible they won't continue that form but Benfica lost against Porto last game after many consecutive wins so I'm really confused about this game.

My team is far from finished but the players I'm picking almost 100% are:
            Gimenez, Carvajal
            Di Maria, Shatov, Kums
            CR, Suarez

The rest pretty much depends how much cash I'll have left after I pick my 3rd striker but Gaitan, Costa, Hames, Jonas, Hulk, Benzema and Messi are all being considered.

Ok so currently I got this and have 1.5 to upgrade anywhere:

          Oblak/Dead Keeper
          Gimenez/Maxwell/Alaba/Vierinha/Isimat-Mirin
          Di Maria/Willian/Pizzi/Shatov/Kums
          CR7/Hulk/Suarez

Thinking Kums -> 3.5 and upgrade Pizzi to a 6.5? Thanks in advance King!

            Sorry for the late replies.

Can't really find a good midfielder in that price range. Maybe Caligiuri but he's doubtful for tomorrow. If you could find 0.5 somewhere you'd have enough for Gaitan, shame that Aurier is such an idiot.

Otherwise it looks good, it's not bad to have Benfica cover anyway, that game is unpredictable.

                  Ended up on this:

                  Trapp/3.0
                  Alaba/Maxwell/Gimenez/Isimat-Mirin/Carvajal
                  Shatov/Gaitan/Willian/Di Maria/Kums
                  CR7/Suarez/Hulk

I like it tbh but if you could find 0.5 to do Trapp -> Oblak, I would be more than happy to make the swap

Well PSG do have the highest chance for a CS this round according to bookies altho I'd prefer a double Atletico myself.

Hi Slamdog - Looks interesting, Naldo is suspended though. I'm currently on this:

      Julio Cesar - Sels
      Vieirinha - Carvajal - Alaba - Gimenez - Isimat-Mirin
      D. Costa - Draxler - Pizzi - Kums - Niguez
      Messi - CR7 - Hulk

      Benaglio (Thoelen)
Dragovic - Eliseu - Carjvahal (Vida - Isimat)
Shatov - Costa - Modric - Rakitic (Ryazant)
      Ronaldo - Neymar - Lewandowski

My bench is basically all fillers to maximize value in my team

Let me know if you see anything you might change?

Considering Neymar > Suarez to get .5 but not sure where id spend it.. Neymar is in great form right now also.

Benaglio is injured, Modric not fantasy material, neither is Rakitic, he came from the bench last weekend. Defense doesnt look very solid and having bench depth is highly recommended in FUCL since you can make manual substitutions between matchdays.

Have my move in mind, just to check-

    Butland
    BAINES/ Azpi/ VVD
    Stanislas/ Ozil/ Sanchez/ Payet/ Mahrez
    Vardy (c)/ Kane (vc)

    McCarthy/ Targett/ Ward/ Aguero 1FT 0.2 ITB

Move is Baines to Fuches. Only question is
    A. do now (save 0.2 on rise/fall)
    B. Wait
    C any other move

Norwich are incredibly leaky and LEI are going for the title so for me Vardy is the better pick. 🙂

Testing out my half ass theory.

Silva, Sterling, even Sanchez in his current wide role are getting shots but are not scoring.

Silva Sterling and Sanchez playing behind a target man (Aguero, Giroud) tend to dribble and shoot. Such attempts have a high chance of being blocked by the covering defender. It is far more probable to score when receiving the ball in a dangerous position or having eluded the defender. Silva Sterling and Sanchez are not making such runs into the box.

After Fuchs got into the team against Norwich, he has played every game, even before Schlupp got injured. He's nailed.

Schlupp is a LB/LM/CAM (he played cam once or twice before injury I recall and played well). Simpson is RB.

My autocorrect has serious issues. Corrected RB to 'Arab'. :/

Doubt it. Schlupp would't play RB

    4. HeroHitterofHeart

Only thing Schlupp might affect is Mahrez potentially being played as cam with Albrighton on the right and Jeff on the left. Although I think this would only happen if Ranieri was to play Vardy on his own up front due to how solid they have been at the back.

      1. FPL_Guru_OM
        • 13 Years

Here is my thoughts. I think Ranieri will do next: He will definitely play Albrighton as a right back. Mahrez at left and Gray at left wing. Also, Ranieri has Dyer as a winger... He can play Dyer as a right winger and switch Mahrez to left or just play Dyer as a right winger.

1 FT - sell Silva or save? No bench is a concern but my XI is pretty solid

    Butland
    Bellerin - Azpi - Fuchs - Ward
    Ozil - Mahrez - Payet - Alli
    Vardy - Kane

    Hennessey ; Aguero - Silva - Moreno

I would be tempted to get rid of Silva if they have a blank in GW 30 too.
For Sanchez if possible, or a Coutinho or Ayew.

Any thoughts on this? - Not planning to make any changes atm, intended for GW 28.

Shows Starting 11 for GW 27 and transfers planned for GW 28.
KEY: Values shown are what the player would sell for in £millions.

    Forster £4.9
    Fonte £5.5 Alderweireld £5.6 Dann £5.8
    Alli £5.6 Sanchez £10.9 Payet £8.0 Ozil £9.3 Mahrez £6.7
    Kane £9.9 Ighalo £5.7
    Subs: Butland £5.2 Aguero £13.4 Simpson £4.1 Jagielka £5.1

    2FT. £0 in the bank.

Was originally planning to do Payet and Ighalo out for Antonio £5.5 and Vardy this GW but now decided to instead do for GW 28:
    Sanchez -> Willian (CURRENTLY £7.0)
    Ighalo -> Vardy (CURRENTLY £7.5)
If prices don't change (which I think is unlikely due to extra week FA Cup break) I will have £2.1m available for weeks after.

Feedback will be appreciated even if I were to disagree with your opinion/advice.

If I could afford him with only one 1 transfer I would but sadly I cannot 🙁 and backing Saints to keep a clean sheet which is why I am doubling up yet again this week in starting 11 with Fonte as Forster (hopefully with extra save points) instead of getting Willian this week and also hoping Sanchez will shred Man Utd's defense with no proper senior defenders available with Darmian out with dislocated shoulder.

Will we know the definite fixtures for GW 30 after the FA Cup games are played this weekend & before GW 27 kicks off ?.....or will potential FA Cup replays delay our knowledge of knowing?

I have 2FT and am waiting to decide who Vardy comes in for between Kun and Lukaku. Was all set on Lukaku to ship (and still prob will) but with 2 games between now and GW 27 for City and Kun's glass legs, I'm going to wait until the last day to do any transfers.

Happened Kun after GW 8 when he scored 5, went on international duty and got injured and I had no FT to sort it out. Not making the same mistake again.

So what did we all get out of the above article? My two peaches:

If you haven't got a STH defender, Targett looks prime meat at 3.9 right now.

Eriksen may be worth a punt - for Firmino now out of his "false 9" pozzy.

I'm actually thinking the same as I'm chasing and need to mix it up....although after last week I don't fancy Lukaku but against Villa i'd fancy anyone.

    Toby, Bellerin, Collins, Fonte
    Sanchez, Firmino*, Mahrez, Payet,
    Kane, Vardy

    Schmeichel, Stanislas, Francis, Aguero,
    1ft, 1.8m

    What would u do here?
    Firmino- Alli/Eriksen/Arnie
