Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery – Part One

Welcome to the first of our Rate My Wildcard Team articles of the week. These will showcase the thoughts of one of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors team on their wildcard. Hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own. Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your wildcard teams and to help others with their wildcard related issues. I’ve picked the short straw to start the first discussion.

My Wildcard Team

Mignolet Robles

Bellerin Gabriel Sakho Jagielka  Ward

De Bruyne Sanchez Lingard Coutinho Payet

Mitrovic Lukaku Aguero

0.2m in the bank

Strategy

I’m currently keeping a close eye on price changes and drafting in players I’m considering as they expect to rise and ditching those set for a fall. As it stands Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez and Christian Fuchs are in my squad but some if not all of them will depart.

Above is the option I’m considering the most, going all out with  15 double players in double Gameweek 34, having three Everton and one Palace player in place for double Gameweek 33 and for double Gameweek 35 I’ve nine players with two transfers to take me to 11. I’m fine taking a hit if an injury lets me down here. I also have six players in place for double Gameweek 37 with  a view to fielding 10 to 11 with a hit that Gameweek.

My bench boost will be played in double Gameweek  34 and triple captaincy in double Gameweek 37.

Key issues

Dropping Kane

Given the high price tags of Kevin De Bruyne, Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool midfielders plus Arsenal’s key defender Hector Bellerin, as well as Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane looks unsustainable. Going without him scares me but to put him in I have to make sacrifices across my whole team. I may very well get him back in for Gameweek 35 though if he punishes me too much. However, if dropping Kane for double Gameweeks 33 and 34 I can be safe in the knowledge that no one will captain him. Shunning Kane also allows for De Bruyne, who looked sharp against Bournemouth and has a great home tie in Gameweek 33, certainly on paper more enticing than Kane’s match up with Van Gaal’s all out defence tactics.

Sanchez over Ozil

Alexis Sanchez looks not only to have won this battle but looks to be the best captaincy pick for double Gameweek 34. I’ve seen enough, he’s in my team.

Punting on Mitrovic

I’ve also seen enough of Newcastle to know that they only have one strategy – get the ball to Alexsandar Mitrovic’s head. With two home games I’m hoping (praying) he can outscore Kane. This is a very rare maverick decision for me and I’m getting scared already thinking of being without Harry.

Ignoring Manchester Utd Defenders

Having no Manchester United defender in particular worries me with two great home games. But none are nailed on except David De Gea and the over priced Chris Smalling. De Gea is an option, but requires surgery in Gameweek 35 when I have no goalies. Jesse Lingard looks to be my only Man Utd player.

Jagielka to fly the dullard flag

If I’m not going to get James Milner then Phil Jagielka is the next best thing for this dullard. Members may note though that in terms of goal attempts he may offer some surprises during the doubles.

Leaving Leicester alone

Of my soon to be ditched Leicester pair of Mahrez and Fuchs it is the defender that worries me the most. Offloading Fuchs’ almost now guaranteed clean sheets and bonus each game will be a wrench. He is also outscoring Mahrez on current form. If any single gameweekers stay he is in pole position.

    .................Mignolet Robles
    Bellerin Rojo Sakho Gabriel Delaney
    Sanchez Payet Coutinho Mahrez Lennon
    ..................KaneKunKaku

0m in the bank. Current plan has 4 Doubles GW33, 13 (BB) DGW 34, full eleven GW35 and 10 doublers in GW37 with no hits. Im not convinced by Rojo, and not dead set on keeping Mahrez but not losing value until a better options presents.

Where's your full eleven for 35? Rojo, Delaney, Payet, Lennon, Lukaku all blank don't they? What's your plan?

Robles/Rojo/Payet/Lukaku benched. 2 FT's (one from GW34 and GW35's to remove Delaney & Lennon. Which was intially easier when they were Dann & Barkley (and Sanchez was Ozil) but hey ho.

My plan is quite similar on Delaney but I can't quite get enough ££ to move to PVA for 35.

Life was much easier when Sanchez was Ozil

I'll keep this nice and short

    A) De Gea / Darlow / Darmian / Lennon - keeper for GW35, Man Utd defensive double-up, Darmian rotation risk, Lennon over Lanzini?

    B) De Gea / Darlow / Coleman / Lanzini - keeper for GW35, single Utd defensive option, dodge rotation threat with Coleman
    C) De Gea / Robles / Darmian / Lanzini - no keeper for 35 a problem

    D) De Gea / Darlow / Darmian / Lanzini - forget Everton except for Kaku and get +0.7 itb

    Thanks!

      D. Darmian likely to outscore Coleman, I have both but the latter for a sneaky goal. Lennon will be rotated.

How does this look? Would love your advice on the remaining 2 spots:

    Mignolet DDG
    Bellerin Gabriel Moreno Delaney Fuchs
    Sanchez Coutinho Payet Mahrez (+mid)
    Lukaku Aguero (+forward)

    A. KDB + Rashford, and I'll get Kane back in GW 35 for Lukaku
    B. Barkley + Martial, and I'll get Kane back in GW 35 for Lukaku/Martial

B, I would avoid Rashford with Rooney coming back and KDB's pitch time a question in that fixture congestion.

    Any holes in this?

    Darlow, Robles
    Gabriel, Sakho, Simpson, Smalling, Otamendi
    Payet, Firminho, Sanchez, Bolasie, Iwobi
    Kane, Lukaku, Kun

Two FT's in 35 gives me 12 playing players including Darlow, 11 if Iwobi dropped.

Would have 7 DGW players in 37 without hitting, probably looking toward Lanzini to replace Alli (who would himself have replaced Bolasie in 35) and probably Otamendi out for Cresswell.

I was leaning toward a later WC but I think that might have topped it. Apart from the awful GK situation which I'm well aware of (using that to create funds), what do you guys think?

What do you think? (I don't have BB so only need 11 DGWers for 34)

    DDG - Robles
    Daniels - Clichy - Bellerin - Gabriel - Sakho
    Sanchez (TC 34) - Payet - KDB - Coutinho - Lanzini
    Aguero - Lukaku - Martial

    0.1 ITB

    GW 33 = 2DGW
    GW 34 = 11DGW & Roll transfer
GW 35 = 11 playing due to: DDG to Migs & Payet to Mane (or similar)
GW 36 = Mane to Payet (just reverse previous)
GW 37 = Clichy to WH defender
I'm happy to take a hit for any injury produced issues.

Activated Wildcard with the following lineup:

    Mignolet DDG
    Simpson Bellerin Moreno Rojo Delaney
    Ozil Barkley KDB Lanzini Sanchez
    Lukaku Aguero Rashford

I do not like the uncertainty regarding Rojo, Barkley and Rashford. I consider replacing these with Darmian, Lennon and Mitrovic. Then I also have to replace Mignolet with Robles.

    What would you prefer?
    A. Keep Mignolet, Rojo, Barkley and Rashord
B Replace with Robles, Darmian, Lennon and Mitrovic and play without GK in w35.

What is the maximum number of games your players can have until DGW37
    Is is it 16(5DGWs), then 30 (15DGws , then 11for gw35 and 22 (11Dgws)?

And do I achieve that fe with:

    2Lpool (1GK)
    3Arsenal
    3Everton (1GK)
    2M.Uniteds
    1West Ham
    1Ncastle
    1ManCity
2Palace (becoming one Pool and one Sunderland in the next two weeks)?!

    Or did I miscalculate?

Are those going Robles/Darlow combo not terrified of having 0 clean sheets over the double and basically having 2 pretty bad options after GW34?

Every time I look at those two it just feels like I may end up with like 8 points total from them on a Bench Boost.

8pts from keepers is better than 2 from a SGW. Don't like Robles or Darlow but will probably end up going with them because they're playing lots and dirt cheap. For keepers, what's not to like?

Not sure if been discussed but...

LVG on Blind: "Daley Blind has played nearly all the matches so I need to give him rest. I don’t want to because he is playing very well. I shall give him two days off so then he is alright I think. He has played every match this season, more or less, and he is at the end of his strengths. I shall give him two days off this week, and then he is OK again."

    http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-news-blind-injury-11132695

LVG on Rojo: "I think Rojo has a problem with his jet lag, otherwise I cannot imagine. So I changed him, and I have seen the space on the right side and I said that to Timothy that you have to take profit of that and when a player is doing that, that is also a bit of luck for the manager but every credit is for Timothy not the manager."

Sorry just woke up so haven't commented on others. But below is my team, would be grateful for your thoughts.
I'm avoiding City, too much rotation and crap away form (I know this could kill me). I've had Aguero for far too long doing far too little. Also avoiding rubbish teams with DGW, except lukaku, and a punt on Coleman getting attacking points. Double on firmino/coutinho an easy decision for me, if fit I think they're likely to outscore everyone else. Only final decision is take a risk on Kane and go for Martial, that gives extra cash to maybe take a similar risk on Mahrez, can't think who though.

    De Gea, Mignolet
    Darmian, Bellerin, Gabriel, Coleman, Simpson
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Firmino, Payet, Mahrez
