Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – Defensive Worries Ease for Hammers

Sam Byram and James Collins are expected to return for West Ham’s clash with Arsenal. Erik Lamela could be back for Tottenham’s showdown with United. Phil Jones and Ashley Young step up their fitness with a run-out for the Red Devils’ reserves, whilst Fabricio Coloccini could be back in the frame for Newcastle this weekend.

Hammers defenders on the mend

Slaven Bilic confirmed that James Collins and Sam Byram will be in contention for West Ham United’s home encounter against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Scout Says: With Byram back in contention and the fit-again James Tomkins afforded a bench role last week, owners of Michail Antonio will be optimistic he can now revert to a midfield berth. The ex-Nottingham Forest wide man has deputised at right-back or right wing-back in recent weeks and, having drawn successive blanks, has fallen behind Manuel Lanzini – who has netted in each of the last two – as our preferred budget Hammers midfielder. Priced at 5.5 to Lanzini’s 4.9, Antonio is owned by just 4% of FPL managers and with double Gameweeks 34 and 37 to consider, could return to our radars once again.

Lamela hopeful of weekend return

Tottenham Hotspur are optimistic that Erik Lamela will shake off a calf complaint in time for their home tie against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Scout Says: With just three goals and five assists, Lamela has been a peripheral figure on the Fantasy scene. In terms of Spurs’ midfield assets, Dele Alli edges out Christian Eriksen by way of his attractive pricing (6.2 compared to 8.6) and recent form (four assists in as many starts). Nonetheless, the Danish playmaker is also in the midst of a purple patch: aside from bagging one goal and assist in his last two outings, he ranked second among all midfielders for attempts (14) and shots on target (five) across his previous quartet of matches. Considering that the Lilywhites don’t enjoy a double Gameweek 34, though, Alli’s 32% ownership will be tempted to cash in – indeed, over 27,000 have already parted company since the weekend. Up front, Harry Kane is another matter altogether, however. Considering the forward has served up six goals, an assist and eight bonus points over his last four, it’s easy to see why many owners are having second thoughts over cashing in on Kane as we reassemble our Wildcard teams.

Defensive duo back for United

Ashley Young and Phil Jones were both handed run-outs for Manchester United’s U21 outfit for their clash against Chelsea last night, but Wayne Rooney was not passed fit to play:

The Scout Says: With Young and Jones now in the mix ahead of United’s double, the likes of Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind may well carry a greater rotation risk. The Argentinian left-back has chalked up five consecutive starts but was replaced at the break against Everton due to jet lag and lasted the distance just once in the other four ties. On a similar note, Antonio Valencia clocked pitch time in the Red Devils’ previous two match-ups, bolstering his case for starts ahead of Matteo Darmian during a congested schedule. Ultimately, Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the only sure-fire routes into a defence that charts bottom for home goals conceded (seven) this term.

Rafa hopeful on Coloccini fitness

According to Rafa Benitez, Fabricio Coloccini will return to training this week ahead of Newcastle United’s trip to Southampton on Saturday:

“So he (Coloccini) will be training (this week) and we’ll see how he feels and then we’ll decide but the good thing is that if they are coming back then at least we have that competition and that can only be good for the team.”

The Scout Says: The Magpies recorded a solitary clean sheet in their last 16 outings, giving us little reason to invest in their defence before back-to-back home clashes (SWA & MCI) in Gameweek 34. In saying that, injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot are set to afford Karl Darlow – at just 3.9 – a run of starts as Benitez attempts to stave off the threat of relegation. It’s further up the field where our main interests lie, though. Although he’s not scored for nine starts, Georginio Wijnaldum’s home bias (all nine goals at St James’ Park) renders him a left-field differential, while Aleksandar Mitrovic is the form man in the Tynesiders’ attack. Delving further into the Serbian marksman’s potential, he ranked fourth for attempts (15), third for shots inside the box (14) and joint-fourth for shots on target (six) among all forwards in their last four matches. Having started off the bench last weekend, his brace at Norwich surely puts Mitrovic in pole position to lead the line once again.

    Morning all,

I'm currently on my WC and have the following team currently:

    GW33
    Robles
    Morgan Bellerin Simpson
    Debryne Mahrez Sanchez Couthino Payet
    Aguero Lukaku (C)

    Bench: Mignolet Mitrovic Darmian Gabriel

    GW34

    Bellerin Darmian Gabriel
    Debryne Sanchez (C) Coutinho Payet
    Mitrovic Aguero Lukaku

    Bench: Robles Mahrez Simpson Morgan

    GW35

    Bellerin Simpson Morgan Gabriel
    Debryne Sanchez Couthino Mahrez
    Aguero Mitrovic

    Bench: Robles Payet Darmian Lukaku

How am I looking? Any tips?

I'll have 2 FTs to makes transfers for GW 35 and onwards. Bit worried about the GW 35 team..

    TO KDB OR NOT

Not having KDB would make my wildcard team much stronger in overall. No gametime issues, 3 dgw33 player, 14 dgw34 players and I'm able to field 11 players for gw35 without a hit.

    Robles - Darlow

    Belle - Smalling - Sakho - Simpson - Monreal / Moreno

    Sanchez - Coutinho - Payet - Lennon - Özil / Firmino

    Martial - Lukaku - Aguero

Quite a low TV, but this seems to work. Would really appreciate you pointing out flaws:

    WC now:
    Robles Darlow
    Smalling Gabriel Sakho Moreno Delaney
    Sanchez Ozil Coutinho Payet Lanzini
    Aguero Lukaku Martial

    = 3 x DGW for GW33 (captain Lukaku), 15 x DGW for GW 34 (Bench Boost)
= Take a -4 in GW35 (Delaney, Martial and Lukaku out for Azpi, Defoe & Pelle (play 4-3-3))
= Pelle back to Lukaku in GW36. have 3x Ars vs. NOR

    = GW 37 team (11 x DGW):
    Robles
    Smalling Sakho Azpi
    Coutinho Payet Lanzini Sanchez
    Defoe Lukaku [Costa/Rooney/Martial]

= lots of Ars, Liv, Mun and Sun players for good fixture in GW38. + a FT.

i am going to wait till gw37 but only because I am leading both my main leagues. gw33 for Lukakau might be the best combined fixtures. gw37 do not have great combined fixtures.

Any non Özil owner bringing him in? Surely its just matter of time when he starts bringing points

Considering if I should double up Arsenal mids. Last time when he blanked 4 times in a row he got 10,8,11 in the following three games.

I had Sanchez + Ozil last week..

Did Ozil -> KdB this week..

May reverse the transfer in GW36 though..

Özil might be better than KDB. I'm pretty worried that Pelle will rotate kdb now that Nasri is fit and ManC away form still poor.

I think he'll start after missing so much of the season already, he's in their top bracket of players alongside Silva, Kun, Kompany, Hart.. Nailed when fit.

He may be rested one of the games and get 30 minutes, but I still fancy him, two amazing home fixtures this week and GW35..

yea but Sanchez outperforms Ozil when he has Walcott or Welbeck up front.

he was really good at times the last time out but without giroud there to hold it up and arsenal playing off him, I think ozil loses a bit of value.

      Personal opinion:

In first leg against Barca, I noticed Ozil's body language changed for the worse. He's always been languid and chill, but against Barca I found it odd that he was muttering under his breath, throwing his arms up and openly blaming his teammates.

He proceeded to get a haul against United so I thought there was nothing to it. But he continued the same negative body language ever since and his performance levels has dipped statistically. Meanwhile he's also been mouthing off to the press.

Human behaviour affects football performance so personally, I'm wary of Ozil as an FPL option at this point.

Then again, all that is just my personal view.

I'd go along with this.. I think he's sick of Arsene already.. Needs to be a winner Ozil does.

Comparing to KdB whose minutes might be in doubt, he seems the better option (paired with Sanchez). But then you start thinking - why not get Iwobi instead.

Considering getting him for a hit. Not too bothered with the hit seeing that he has 4 games in 2 weeks.

But getting Jags or Robles is easier on the pocket. What's your thinking behind the Coleman pick? He looked revved up against United that's why I'm considering him.

Those runs and tackles were fantastic. Sham McCarthy and Cleverley are borderline incompetent and Barkley is a ball hogger.

Not sure he's worth a hit tbh.. I got him on my WC for this week as I had extra cash and wanted a placeholder until I wanted Sturridge in for Lukaku.. but if Everton fail this DGW33, then I'll be swapping both of them out for DGW34..

well the hit is for Bertrand > Coleman. I could get Sakho in his place to free up some cash (no WC) but why not live a little. haha. the thing that worries me is he doesn't have the stats to back it up. its a pure FPL DGW gamble.

Nothing wrong with that! tis why I went with him too! 😀

I owned him earlier in the season and he got 2 assists in 3 games for me..

Now I get him back in and he gets 2 bonus in a 1-0 loss...

Destined to work out this weekend 😎

Just weighing up options, is it worth bringing in Palace def (Ward / Delaney) over Winston Reid? I could do it a week early (this week) to maximise the double double...? but WHU have superior 34 fixtures,

I have XI for GW35 so that's not an issue

    Cech*^ - Robles**
    Smalling* - Bellerin*^ - Sakho*^ - Morgan^ - Delaney**
    Ozil*^ - Payet* - Barkley** - Mahrez^ - Alli^
    Aguero*^ - Lukaku** - Martial*

    GW33 - 4 x DGWs
    GW34 - 12 x DGWs plus BB
GW35 - Three from Smalling, Delaney, Barkley and Marial > SGW35'ers with 2 x FTs and a hit.

    What are my biggest concerns?
