Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – Defensive Worries Ease for Hammers

Sam Byram and James Collins are expected to return for West Ham’s clash with Arsenal. Erik Lamela could be back for Tottenham’s showdown with United. Phil Jones and Ashley Young step up their fitness with a run-out for the Red Devils’ reserves, whilst Fabricio Coloccini could be back in the frame for Newcastle this weekend.

Hammers defenders on the mend

Slaven Bilic confirmed that James Collins and Sam Byram will be in contention for West Ham United’s home encounter against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Scout Says: With Byram back in contention and the fit-again James Tomkins afforded a bench role last week, owners of Michail Antonio will be optimistic he can now revert to a midfield berth. The ex-Nottingham Forest wide man has deputised at right-back or right wing-back in recent weeks and, having drawn successive blanks, has fallen behind Manuel Lanzini – who has netted in each of the last two – as our preferred budget Hammers midfielder. Priced at 5.5 to Lanzini’s 4.9, Antonio is owned by just 4% of FPL managers and with double Gameweeks 34 and 37 to consider, could return to our radars once again.

Lamela hopeful of weekend return

Tottenham Hotspur are optimistic that Erik Lamela will shake off a calf complaint in time for their home tie against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Scout Says: With just three goals and five assists, Lamela has been a peripheral figure on the Fantasy scene. In terms of Spurs’ midfield assets, Dele Alli edges out Christian Eriksen by way of his attractive pricing (6.2 compared to 8.6) and recent form (four assists in as many starts). Nonetheless, the Danish playmaker is also in the midst of a purple patch: aside from bagging one goal and assist in his last two outings, he ranked second among all midfielders for attempts (14) and shots on target (five) across his previous quartet of matches. Considering that the Lilywhites don’t enjoy a double Gameweek 34, though, Alli’s 32% ownership will be tempted to cash in – indeed, over 27,000 have already parted company since the weekend. Up front, Harry Kane is another matter altogether, however. Considering the forward has served up six goals, an assist and eight bonus points over his last four, it’s easy to see why many owners are having second thoughts over cashing in on Kane as we reassemble our Wildcard teams.

Defensive duo back for United

Ashley Young and Phil Jones were both handed run-outs for Manchester United’s U21 outfit for their clash against Chelsea last night, but Wayne Rooney was not passed fit to play:

The Scout Says: With Young and Jones now in the mix ahead of United’s double, the likes of Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind may well carry a greater rotation risk. The Argentinian left-back has chalked up five consecutive starts but was replaced at the break against Everton due to jet lag and lasted the distance just once in the other four ties. On a similar note, Antonio Valencia clocked pitch time in the Red Devils’ previous two match-ups, bolstering his case for starts ahead of Matteo Darmian during a congested schedule. Ultimately, Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the only sure-fire routes into a defence that charts bottom for home goals conceded (seven) this term.

Rafa hopeful on Coloccini fitness

According to Rafa Benitez, Fabricio Coloccini will return to training this week ahead of Newcastle United’s trip to Southampton on Saturday:

“So he (Coloccini) will be training (this week) and we’ll see how he feels and then we’ll decide but the good thing is that if they are coming back then at least we have that competition and that can only be good for the team.”

The Scout Says: The Magpies recorded a solitary clean sheet in their last 16 outings, giving us little reason to invest in their defence before back-to-back home clashes (SWA & MCI) in Gameweek 34. In saying that, injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot are set to afford Karl Darlow – at just 3.9 – a run of starts as Benitez attempts to stave off the threat of relegation. It’s further up the field where our main interests lie, though. Although he’s not scored for nine starts, Georginio Wijnaldum’s home bias (all nine goals at St James’ Park) renders him a left-field differential, while Aleksandar Mitrovic is the form man in the Tynesiders’ attack. Delving further into the Serbian marksman’s potential, he ranked fourth for attempts (15), third for shots inside the box (14) and joint-fourth for shots on target (six) among all forwards in their last four matches. Having started off the bench last weekend, his brace at Norwich surely puts Mitrovic in pole position to lead the line once again.

Can we have a serious discussion about Iwobi?

The guy is 4.5m and banging goals in. Stats are great, far better than Ozil's. I suppose the issue is his gametime. Will he continue to play?

Who is his competition? Walcott & Campbell? Both pretty woefully out of form. Ramsey returns soon, but playing out wide isn't his natural position.

Is Iwobi worth the punt? Could be a huge reward for a 4.5m risk. Of course, he would be taking up a precious 3rd Arsenal spot however. It's him or Gabriel for me. Who wins?

Gabriel Iwobi Sanchez might do the trick.

Seriously tho.. Iwobi is in great form and a great talent but Campbell isn't out of form and will start one of the games

4.5 m for a playing DGW'er attacker , and plays for Ars to boot.
I don't understand all the caution over him.
If he gets 90mins in total, thats more than ample for a guy who enables so much more in your team

The risk with young players is that the manager may see fit to take him out every two or three games. Iwobi looks the part but with Arsenals' options I doubt he'll start both games in the double week. Remember there's also a possibility of Giroud coming in up front and Welbeck also moving wide so it's not just Walcott and Campbell he's competing with.

Biggest problem isn't that he might play only 100-129 minutes in GW34, but that he may just have a cameo in GW35 with people thinking they've got a full 11. And then there's the problem of removing him, only Lingard fits the bill.

I think I'm so close to my final WC team. Ditching Kane for Martial is the toughest thing I have to do.

    Robles Darlow

Have you got a plan to get Kane back in for GW35? I'm thinking of downgrading Smalling for extra £ and then do something like Gabriel, Lennon, Martial > ?, Iwobi, Kane.

Pretty much anyone hoping to get 13-15 DGW players for GW34 will have to sell 1 or 2 players with DGW37 to field 11 GW35 players.

There are two types of WC team. Those remaining loyal to Harry Kane and those ditching.

As always, there are arguments for both cases and none of us can predict the future.

Of course, he is on fire and scoring plenty of points so ideally we’d all like to keep him. If I didn’t have the bench boost chip left, he definitely wouldn’t be going anywhere. For what it’s worth, I think Spurs will beat United and Stoke as well, but they could be tight.

I think there are more reasons for selling if you have the BB or triple armband chip remaining.
    - It is what you can do with the extra cash that adds to your squad.
    - With the DGWs, you wouldn’t be giving him the armband in GW33 or 34 anyway.
    - You can make plans to get him back in GW35 for WBA at home for no hits if you roll your transfer in GW34.
    - Would you be more frustrated if he got points when your DGW replacements didn’t, or if Kane got 4pts in two games and Martial/Rashford/Mitrovic were well into double figures? (along with other players the extra cash allowed you to purchase). I know which would annoy me more.
    - It’s DGW season, this is what we kept the chips for!

Now, there is also a considerable case for selling Mahrez, given Leicester are grinding out the one nils! But I have probably ranted long enough on the boy Harry!

This. I've got rid of Kane.

Kane hat-trick and brace incoming plus 4 pointers for Martial and mitrovic

I know the general consensus is that Sir Leighton Baines is not worth it any more but has he really dropped to the level that nobody on here considers him with 2 DGWs in a row?

I'm at home for 3 weeks after surgery and my wife challenged me to complete the tasks I had started and never finished.

After unwrapping David Silva, Wesley Sniejder and the Algerian team photo my 2010 World Cup Panini Album is complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure it was what she meant but I feel great now, 17 more days to kill

Haha. I'll sell him to you_ He's 3,9. Nothing else but a DGW speaks for him.

I'm looking for a midfielder costing less than 5.6 who's pretty certain to play, has a double and no blank 35...

I currently have Sissoko in there. I know he's unfashionable but worth a punt? If not, any other suggestions?

Milner is about 1m too much! Iwobi is such an interesting punt. I just can't convince myself that he's going to get enough game time and surprisingly there aren't that many good upgrades I can afford with the extra cash.

        How's your team looking mate?

I would like to get people's thoughts on this since people are saying Mitrovic is not nailed

Benitez had began the match with Mitrovic as sub and started the game with Papiss Cisse in attack. When asked if he regretted his decision Benitez said: “Not really, he came late after the international break. We have players flying around the world and players training with you. When we were 1-0 down we had to play everyone in attack. “The substitutions worked well but you have to decide before the game who is in form or who has done well in training during the whole week.
“You need to see who can help.” Now Benitez hopes that Mitrovic can lead the charge to safety and believes he will go into the last seven games with his confidence boosted.
He said: “It happened like this but it was good for Mitrovic because he scored two and it can be good for his confidence and the rest of the season if he keeps scoring goals

Oh you asked for thoughts....was a little worried when Cisse started but the fact he came on and scored two amkes me think he's still going to be nailed.

Your post helps with that too. Think he's the main man.

Fortunate brace. One goal was a severe deflection off Bennett and the other a pen gifted by O'Neil's handball.
He's mediocre at best. No pace and just looks passionate - that's it

I just can't seem to make a WC33 team I'm happy with without Mitrovic in it.

All things being equal, I would rather have Martial -- but he's 1.4 more expensive
      and doesn't play in GW35.
