Dugout Discussion – Southampton v Man City

In Gameweek 36’s penultimate head-to-head, Southampton and Manchester City cross swords at St Mary’s Stadium. Saints’ only loss in their previous seven fixtures came at the hands of the league leaders, while the Sky Blues are in the midst of a five-match unbeaten streak.

Southampton found their attacking groove in their previous quartet of outings, placing fifth for attempts (65), top for shots inside the box (46) and second for big chances (11). The fact that they also rank fourth for goals (31) and shots inside the box (174) in home fixtures highlights the challenge faced by the visitors’ backline. On the flip side, the Sky Blues will be boosted by the fact that Aston Villa scored twice against Saints last time out.

Man City will arrive at the south coast with an air of confidence, having recorded the second-most goals (10) and second-best shot-conversion rate (22.7%) across their previous four outings. At the other end of the pitch, the Sky Blues conceded the joint-fewest goals (two), third-fewest shots inside the box (22) and joint-fourth-fewest big chances (four), which suggests a sixth clean sheet in nine match-ups could be on the cards.

Can you guys rate my defence and give some opinions ? I have "DGWers", with massive risk.

    Clyne, lovren, fosumensah with two

    Bellerin/Gabriel with one.

Seems a shame to use 4 or 8 point hit on them, but they could get 1 or 2 points at best !!!

Thanks Les Blues for post on bottom of last page.

Getting rid of Clyne seems likely. Reckon lovren could get two games then ?!

Sorry but still kinda new at this and forget what happened last year. In my public head to head league I don't yet see my matchup for week 37. Does it end at 36? Got a 3 game lead heading into GW36 but of course against the highest scoring 16th place team that ever existed lol, and it's gonna come down to baps and subs...

    Alli and Mahrez out for....

12.9m to spend on two midfielder (can't be WHM)

Thinking of a few combinations that could be decided by Thursday's game

    A) Firmino/ Coutinho + 4.6m MID (Lingard/ Watson)

    B) Milner + 6.2m MID (Brady, Redmond, Lennon, Khazri)

    C) Willian + 6.0m MID (Brady, Redmond, Lennon, Khazri)

    D) Barkley + 5.9m MID (Brady, Redmond, Lennon, Khazri)

Absolutely pitiful that these players can't handle playing twice in a week. Players in the NBA are going once every other day and sometimes 2 nights in a row with travel twice the difference than that of Europe. I need to ditch all these bubble-wrap players

I think it's a new fad. Never used to see this kind of rotation when Ronaldo, Rooney, Drogba and all those guys were playing for Champions League titles.

So why can't 23 year old De Bruyne play twice in a week? Baffling. And as I type, they go down a goal. Serves em right.
