DraftKings Saturday Player Picks

The third DraftKings contest of the quarter-finals hands us two matches over Saturday and Sunday evening to assemble our eight-man squads from.

Italy take on Germany in Bordeaux at 8pm this evening for a place alongside Portugal and Wales in the last four.

Despite a 2-0 win over Spain in the Round of 16, Antonio Conte’s are slight underdogs for tonight’s match. With just a single goal conceded over their four fixtures, though, it’s fair to say The Azzurri’s defensive display will be vital in keeping the Germans at bay.

Joachim Low’s unit have been even more resilient than their opponents and kept a clean sheet in every match so far. Indeed, with more shots and attempts inside the box than any side over the first four rounds of fixtures, the World Champions look in ominous form at both ends of the pitch.

Hosts France go head-to-head with Iceland in tomorrow night’s encounter in the Stade de France.

Both sides registered 2-1 comeback wins in the previous round after conceding early penalties against Republic of Ireland and England respectively.

Didier Deschamps’ side will be expected to dominate proceedings – Iceland have mustered just 28.9% possession so far in the tournament, less than any other side. The tournament favourites, France have produced more than double the number of attempts on goal (75 to 31) but the pair are level for goals scored, with six apiece, thanks to Iceland’s impressive 19.4% goal conversion rate.

Having previously put Thomas Muller forward as a candidate from tonight’s match for yesterday’s contests, here’s another set of names from that encounter, together with a trio of prime targets for Sunday’s final last eight clash.

Antoine Griezmann – France – $9400
Joint-top scorer for the tournament, the France forward benefitted from a change of position during the comeback victory over Republic of Ireland last time around. Having started that match on the right, Griezmann shifted into a central support slot and, firing eight attempts, scored both his side’s goals in the 2-1 triumph. The Atletico Madrid man looks in fine form for the clash against Iceland and could well retain his new role as Didier Deschamps’ side look to book a place in the last four.

Dimitri Payet – France – $10000
The France playmaker’s average of 7.3 minutes per cross over the first four fixtures is quicker than any player in the tournament. Number one for dead-ball duties, Payet has created 17 scoring opportunities for Les Bleus and his eye for a killer pass could prove the difference as the tournament favourites attempt to break down a stubborn Iceland rearguard.

Toni Kroos – Germany – $7400
Thanks to his role as a deep-lying playmaker in Joachim Low’s 4-2-3-1, Kroos has produced more touches and passes than any player in the tournament. Given that Germany have averaged 70.1% possession so far, we expect them to dominate this evening’s encounter against Italy in Bordeaux, with Kroos set to see plenty of the ball as The Azzurri look to sit deep and frustrate. Sitting top for crosses and joint-top for attempts on target, the Real Madrid man offers DraftKings managers an excellent all-round option for our eight-man squads this evening.

Giorgio Chiellini – Italy – $3400
The Juventus centre-half has been fundamental to a series of displays that have seen Italy concede just a single goal in their first four fixtures. Chiellini – who notched the opener in a 2-0 win over Spain last time out – sits second for interceptions and joint-top for successful tackles amongst Antonio Conte’s charges. He’s also been fouled more times than any team-mate and, at a price of $3400, looks excellent value as The Azzurri look to spring another shock and send Germany tumbling out.

Birkir Saevarsson – Iceland – $3100
Iceland’s hard-working right-back could be one to consider for the utility slot in our eight-man squads. Setting you back just $3100, Saeversson has produced twice the number of successful tackles (eight to four) as fellow full-back Ari Freyr Skulason and also betters him for interceptions, by seven to four. Considering that he’s likely to be up against Dimitri Payet on the flank, Saevarsson looks set for a busy night as the underdogs seek to extend their fairytale tournament on Sunday evening.

Spots in DraftKings contests for Saturday and Sunday’s matches are still available, including the $3 entry “Striker” with an $8k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here and play responsibly.

I think so but looks like game with very few goals so Def (c) is good option. If u have to pick between Italy front or Germany front pick the latter. Think that Italy wont keep CS.

Pepe has been MOTM against both Croatia and Poland. He performed well during the group stage as well! The goals Portugal had conceded has been caused by their wing backs, goalkeeper or deflections.

    Official Statement From BVB

Borussia Dortmund and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan (27) go their seperate ways this summer.
Following an intensive round of discussions, Borussia Dortmund accepted the Armenian international's wish to join Manchester United next season.
"Based on a completely new situation, this transfer was a difficult trade-off for us. Manchester made us a very attractive offer. Had we refused it, the player would have left us on a free transfer in 2017 and we would only have delayed the matter of a replacement for a year," explained Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Borussia Dortmund would like to wish Henrikh Mkhitaryan all the best for the upcoming season in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League.

I posted on the Frogball page but

In a terrible gameweek for both nations by my calculations Slovakia has a narrow lead over Italy. But it will come down to a coupe of selections. Italians have 3 x Muller and against a Slovakian Italian defence differential x 4.

Slovakia have 2 x Payet while Italy have 2 x Pogba

Slovakia have 3 x Greizmann while Italy have 1 x Giroud

Apart from the Italian one the other defences kind of even out.
I make it we have a 4 point lead and 3 players extra to play (bring in) of course each player you bring in costs points to do so it isn't like FPL where that is such a visible advantage.

As all of my defenders and attackers converge against each other in these later rounds, did I miss my big opportunity to wild card?

I always thought that the shift from 8 to 4 teams would be the best time, but my team didn't really need it so I held. Now I am concerned that the pool of available players is so shallow heading into the semis that most teams will look alike and the opportunity to differentiate for free has passed.

Maybe but with Poland and Belgium's elimination, we are all in a pickle! You could be one of the few to get a 15man squad out there for the SF! I think you've played it brilliantly mate.

Today evening's game will cause some hassle too, an Iceland win tomorrow and you're laughing. 🙂

Yeah, was thinking one strategy would be to go heavy on a defense from one match and an attack from the other so I could take a big gamble. Iceland - Italy would be an ideal result for me since I could get the entire azzurri backline.

Only (c) option today for me are: Draxler, Gia, Gomez, Muller, Pelle, Eder, Ozil (in that order).
    Italy won't keep CS.

Gia just because he plays mid. Captain other def is pointless cuz even if they manage to keep CS all will swap with France player tomorrow so better to pick someone with haul chance.

Gia(c)cherini clean sheet and I'll stick. Iceland are no pushovers and France attack still hasn't convinced me 100%. Can't see them scoring more than 2.

you may be right but I feel that Italy won't keep their CS plus I guarantee that a lot people with "only" CS for their player will swap for Payet/Giroud/Griezmann when they realize that it's "just" Iceland. Just saying.

remember that almost every new singing (especially from other league) is a risk as a pick in FPL. New country, new language, new place, new players, change of home etc you name it and sometimes they need some time, sometimes they even not play in first XI for some time so that's why I don't think that every new singing is essential. I know that there are some exceptions but in general it looks like I wrote.

Why? You have an abundance of talent waiting for Conte. Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Pedro.

In those positions United had Lingard, Rooney, Mata, Depay, Martial. United had to sign a RW/attacker.

It is horribly frustrating that we have to watch Man U, Man C, Liverpool etc spending big as we appear to be doing nothing, that is true. But if we confirm Batman and Kante i will be a very happy man.

Yep , I am also hoping the Nainggolan rumours disappear. I am not liking what I am seeing at the Euros (apart from 2 worldies).....Batman ( 😉 ) and Kante are solid signings.

Hate it. I love Diego. He is the best CF we have and Morata/Lukaku/Michy are not better. We should keep him.

100% agree. I rather pay 30m for Kante. And tbh there's not a lot more needed after those two, just depends on the setup Conte will employ.

If he wants to stay then i would be happy to keep, but these rumours started last year. Agreed no one up to his standard, i say play Eden off Batman.

Too much pressure on Batman in that role imo. Costa would want to stay imo. He will play under the shadow of Griezmann at Athletico.

Hmm possibly right, but he's a big kid, he would be playing the current Pelle role and would have support. It's him or Morata (if those are our signings).

The most frustrating player. I said when he 1st came that he had the ability to become probably the best player I've seen in the Chelsea blue. Inconsistency is the main issue, either god-like or utter poop. No in-between. One of those roving attacking midfield three positions could be perfect for him, or he could just totally fail. He has the work rate for a Conte team too. Last chance i say.

JT another year or so in him? i think he would still be a huge asset in a 3 as long as there is pace around him

He is the closest we have to a Bonucci atm and Conte wants him to stay. I think if he plays in the middle of the back 3 , his lack of pace can be protected.

Stones is pretty rubbish, his defending was poor last season and for what will be needed to buy he will be way overpriced.

He has the physical attributes (pace , strength , height). He needs to improve his game but how much of last season was down to Martinez? I mean even Toby is looking average under Wilmots at the Euros while he looked world class under Poche...

A great player should be able to perform under any manager imo. Unless of course he is being played wildly out of position.

Stones was barely first choice last season for Everton and wasn't just poor management, he made a lot of errors, wayward passes, poor tackles, miss-placed touches.

He is as over hyped as most English players but because he is one of the rare English ball playing defenders he is even more so over hyped.

'Stones was barely first choice last season for Everton and wasn't just poor management, he made a lot of errors, wayward passes, poor tackles, miss-placed touches.'

Fair play but I still think that under a better manager , his mistakes will drastically reduce.

I don't doubt he will improve, but the notions of 50m for him are outrageous and I think Conte could look elsewhere and find superior talent at a cheaper price, although I guess it could be argued that transfer fees are kind of redundant at this stage in football.

I just think that high of a price tag will put a lot of pressure on a young man's shoulders, look at Sterling and countless other emerging young English talent and how often people hype them up way too much only to see them fail (I don't fail in their ability but fail in what people expect of them)

Of course Toby is a great player but in fairness he did play well for Belgium apart from 2 games, one against Italy who just took them apart and one last night when he was playing alongside Denayer who was so poor and constantly out of position and Lukaku who was also awful.

But then I guess it can be said if Stones had a better partner beside him and better coverage in front, i/e Terry and Kante he could be a very good player, I just think he had a pretty poor season last season and has been too hyped and bigged up and will never live up the expectations cast upon him by the media and football fans.

                        Underrated point imo...

This is a serious problem , I agree. It has been unpleasant reading many articles taking shots at Sterling and blaming him for England's disappointment. I hope the same doesn't happen to Stones.

He isn't a great player and no one is claiming he is for starters.. very few players if any are great at 22 and certainly not CB's.. quite common for young defenders to make mistakes and a manager who understands the defensive side of the game would surely be more beneficial to one in helping to cut them out..

some people are claiming he is great though, and that will be a world class defender.

people wanted him to start at the Euros.

Tah is a great player, well very close to being one, and is only 20.

                      Varane is 22

                      Laporte, Marquinhos...

Such a *co-incidence* that Varane and Marquinhos play for a top 5 club , innit? 😉

Not saying they aren't great but players look better in better teams.

Well people that are claiming he IS great need to catch a grip... all i have said and have for some time is that he has a lot of attributes that a potentially great CB should have and with the right attitude and coaching can get there.. only my opinion.. we have different opinions on what consitutes a great player it seems and of course is only opinion but great is a term thrown about these days.. Maldini Canavarro Nesta Baresi Thuram and in the PL Terry Rio Vidic Carvalho for example were great defenders.. none of those above you mention come close at this stage of their careers and certainly not Stones i agree..

yeah you could be right, and of course a top clubs = better training facilities etc... but I still think Stones is very overpriced and Conte could get a better young defender for less money.

And as I said I would worry for Stones having such a high price tag on his shoulders and a pressure to perform, but if the manager and back room staff can help with those pressures then he may be unaffected by them.

Overpriced for sure but i guess that's just the way of the world now and ridiculous amounts are available and with young players it is seen as an investment..

yeah of course, and as mentioned at 22 no one is a great defender if you are putting the likes of who you mentioned as great, I would put them as World Class myself but that's just semantics!

I do think Stones is behind those players I mentioned, but then again those I mentioned are the best of the young defenders, maybe add that guy Rugani in there too..havnt seen much of him but heard a lot about his potential.

these boys you mention are top talents admittedly seen nothing of Tah and very little of Laporte but heard lots.. Varane on the other hand have watched closely over the last few years and imo is the closest you will get to the finished article at that age.. astounding he struggles for a place at Real right now

Tah is very good and had been linked with Liverpool (but who hasn't!) and I want more than anything for us to sign him, I think him and Gomez and Sakho could be the future of Liverpool CBs

My best opening week on FPL saw me holding Mladen Petric who I think got a brace and Michu when he joined Swansea. I was top 1k for a couple of weeks when the season started.

Petric was not a long term investment
