Dugout Discussion – France vs Iceland

The quarter-finals stage of Euro 2016 conclude this evening as France and Iceland go head-to-head in the Stade de France.

After falling behind to early spot-kicks last time out, both sides chalked up 2-1 comeback wins over Republic of Ireland and England rrspectively, though it’s fair to say that Les Bleus are firm favourites for the 8pm clash.

Bearing in mind that Iceland’s average of 28.9% possession is less than any team in the tournament, we can expect France to dominate proceedings tonight as their opponents sit back and soak up the pressure.

Didier Deschamps’ troops have registered more than double the number of attempts on goal (75 to 31) as their opponents, though the hosts have managed just 22 shots on target to the Scandinavians’ 14. Indeed, Iceland have matched France’s six goals for the tournament so far thanks to an eye-catching 19.4% conversion rate – the highest of any side in Euro 2016.

At the back, the numbers again lean towards the French. Iceland have conceded an effort every 4.8 minutes – that’s quicker than any other team – and have allowed their opponents 79 attempts on goal to France’s 30.

Despite conceding just four times, then, the underdogs face a tough task to upset the form book yet again and clinch a place in Thursday’s semi-final against Joachim Low’s World Champions.

I was really smug about having 2 french defenders and french keeper with my closest rival not having french def. That may have cost me! In the last few matches gone from about a 40 point lead at the to pof ML to a 15 point! I used my WC last round too. Eurgh.
It's all tight at the top now. Damn it France not having a clean sheet! :-/

Griezmann or Giroud? Giroud performed well last night but Griezmann's pace and skills can trouble Germany

      Both but I'd prioritize Griezmann.

Cant afford both will have to take a hit for hit. My front line would be Ronaldo Bale Griezmann in that case then

Low played a 343 formation so Draxler was the one who had to loose out. Not sure if he would continue this against France but he should play

    Off-Topic:

Which are the reliable non-official ticket website for Football Matches?

I want to watch Man United Vs Liverpool this season, but it will be tough/almost impossible to get a ticket or a decent seat with the official website.

Thoughts on this after 6 ft:

    Lloris / Hennessey
Rami, Hector, SAGNA, GUERRO(Or Cedric), TAYLOR
    Payet, Özil, Renato, KROOS, POGBA
    Bale, Giroud, RONALDO

Kinda worried about Pogba/Kroos but cant find any alternatives..

    5 France, 3 Wales, 3 Portugal, 3 Germany.

Maybe i should go Sagna -> German defender?

He's been very unlucky too, some great saves and a few shots off the woodwork, he could open the poor French defence.

          Don't buy, don't sell 🙂

I can get the following team with my 6 FT. Worth saving my WC for the final?

    BAle, Muller, Ronaldo

All you need for that final is only 11 players. Your 15 players wont be used. Plus you get 8 free transfers to field 11 players. Not a good idea to keep hold of the WC

    Lloris / Rui
    Giaccherni / Sagna / Umtiti / Boateng / Meunier
    KDB / Hazard / Payert / Renato S / Draxler
    Gomez / Griezmann / Ronaldo

    Using 6 FT can be:

    Lloris / Rui
    Guerreiro / Sagna / Rami / Boateng / Chester
    Ozil / Pogba / Payet / Renato S / Draxler
    Muller / Griezmann / Ronaldo

0.2 itb if i stick with above first thoguhts on FT's Any thoughts? No WC and leading ML by a little 15 points! (Was by 40 until this week :-()

    Neuer - Hennessy
    Hector - Guerreiro - Fonte - Rami - Sagna
    Ozil - Kroos - Payet - Sanches - RAMSEY
    Bale - Griezman - Ronaldo

    Would you:
    a) stick
    b) use wildcard to transfer Ramsey ---> Pogba
    c) take a 4pt hit for Ramsey ---> Pogba
