The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 2 – Friday

Typically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensures that he crashes the Paul Pogba party, but the impact of the Frenchman’s energy at Old Trafford was there for all to see. Here’s the Stock Check after Friday’s night’s Gameweek 2 opener.

On the Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Friday’s Gameweek opener has made it almost impossible to ignore him.

While his performances have hardly been vintage, Ibrahimovic’s ability to score goals has been in evidence from the get-go and his impact devastating.

Paul Pogba’s arrival as the legs and possession winner in midfield has almost enabled the Swede to settle in the role he does best – now he can almost afford to drift in and out of the game, cropping up to provide moments of quality in the box where it matters.

Already the most transferred in tonight, it’s Hull City up next and the international break gap – multiple price rises look assured.

Luke Shaw
Just as Antonio Valencia looked to have the advantage, Shaw responded with a barnstorming display down the left. The assist for United’s penalty compounded an impressive display.
Again Pogba could be the influence here. Lining up on the left side of the double pivot, his ability to dominate possession could now see the power swing to the left side and promote Shaw as the choice full-back.

However, Valencia was just three behind Shaw in the Bonus Point System, despite his assist. We will continue to monitor but for now, Valencia remains our choice.

Paul Pogba
It was obvious that Pogba’s energy lifted United and brought the best out of those around him – it’s perhaps less obvious how the Frenchman will rate as a Fantasy asset.

He had more touches than any other player, he had more attempts on goal than any other United player but we need more time to see if that translates to returns to justify the 8.5 outlay.

In Decline

Wayne Rooney
Whilst Rooney chipped in with the assist for Ibrahimovic’s opener, when the Swede took the ball to stroke home United’s second, the skipper’s fate was sealed. The 2.5 price difference was tempting but Ibrahimovic has already made his mark, leaving Rooney playing second fiddle now and, most likely, throughout the season.

Notably, it’s also been Rooney, not the Swede who has been withdrawn in both league outings late on.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm happy with my team so far (have 2 FT and the much vaunted Ibra/Aguero duo)

    Doing well in the game.

Am I missing out by not doing transfers tonight? Planned to wait until end of GW to resolve injuries/monitor watchlist.

    Is that the wrong strategy?

      No.

What's the best way to get tickets for OT this time of year? Would it be next to impossible to get ones for this year or early next year for a PL game.

I'm a member, around two thirds of my applications are successful but I only apply for one at a time and single tickets are easier to allocate. Got knocked back today for City at home, understandable as demand is high. Forums and Twitter is always good to pick up late spares too.

    7. dribbler
      • 14 Years
      7 years, 9 months ago

      it's certainly not unfair

this is a tactical game where you try to beat other people...one very viable strategy is to pick certain players because their price allows you to switch to other, slightly cheaper, players if they flop...that was an important factor contributing towards the decision whether or not to get Ibra at the start of the season

      1. dribbler
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 9 months ago

it's entirely predictable that some of your players will do well and some will fail to score points even if they're very good fantasy players

so planning for the failure of some of your players is an important consideration

Ibra is nearly 35 but he's never been fast and I think I'm correct in saying that he scored 50 goals last season...so it was also entirely predictable that he MIGHT do well from week 1

you took a big risk not selecting him, especially since he was so heavily owned

so the problem you have now is entirely FAIR

To Zlatan Or Not to Zlatan

    For:
Imminent price rise in the coming weeks
Heavy ownership = potential large drop in rankings
Potential explosive returns (as evidenced today)
    He's on penalties

    Against:
    Potential hit needed
Restructuring the team to fit him in
    His price

Personally, I think if you need to take a hit, it's still worthwhile cos that -4 will play out over the next 36 gameweek

Price is another factor but given the fact that he's on pens and in form, it might be worth considering letting go of one of your underperforming 8.5,9.5 mids

Will rise 0.3 by next GW and whoever you have (Kane/ Vardy) might very well drop even if they score this week given Ibra has Hull next. He always punishes small teams.

It is very clear Pogba looks up to Zlatan big time. He sees him as the only player better that him in this squad. I can see them forming a partnership. Pogba will always look for Zlatan to pass to increasing his appeal over Rooney even more.

    1. goriuanx
      • 13 Years

Good point but Zlatan is a far better pick than Rooney anyway. A better player, a better goal scorer. Always has been, always will be.

Well many here argured Rooney + 2.5 > Ibra. Today is just one example this is not correct. I said it and got LOLd at every time. Ibra is the best player in the league including Kun. Kun maybe worldclass but Ibra is a legend. Only behind Messi and Ronaldo over the last 10 years. And it seems he came to PL to prove a point.

Hey fellas. Got a tough situation for you lads to help me solve, if possible please 🙂

I'd always planned to WC after GW3 for the price rises during the international break. At that point, there is no doubt I will want to bring in Redmond, however he is rising 0.1 tonight. At this point, that 0.1 might as well equate to a 0.5 rise.

    My team currently:
    Foster Jaku
    Azpi Valencia Stones Amat Paredes
    Hazard Mahrez Townsend Ramirez Leko
    Aguero Ibra Long

The only logical solution to this seems to be doing Townsend -> Long, but the issue with that is that it leaves me with double Soton attack for GW3, and missing out on a great fixture for Andros at home to Bournemouth. Can anybody else see any way to get around this?

Long to Carroll gives you two consecutive home games v Bournemouth, for Carroll and Townsend.

the 0.1 equate 0.5 is a myth, it maybe does for 1-2 weeks, then no more, if cotinho scores again he is 8.7, and soon everybody is .6 or .4

Is it worth it to do tadic to Redmond tonight?
One is going done and the other up, both tonight, no other pressing issue
Is making 0.2 worth the risk?

Done Vardy and Tadic to Redmond and Ibra. -4

Please tell me I've done correctly. My bench is a state with Souare and Watson.
    Perhaps I should wildcard?

    Forster. Jac
    Williams. Friend. Amat. Souare. Valencia.
    Hazard. Barkley. Redmond. Watson. Eriksen.
    Carroll. Aguero. Ibra

      Overall 7/10

U got rid of Aguero, U could b screwed. Also a -8 hit is borderline WC

sold Vardy and Tadic for Ibra and Redmond. couldn't wait, had to be done. Ibra will be 12.1m by GW4 if he so much as assists vs Hull

Dunno about 12.1 so soon, he's already got 47% ownership, that'll surely cap below the 60% mark. Most people will probably bring him in this week before Hull, loads of wildcards in those NTI

Does the price rise for Ibra really matter if you're never going to sell him? All making transfers today could be in big trouble if there are injuries over the weekend.

Never going to sell him? Of course you're going to sell him at some stage. I was considering doing it this week to fund Sanchez!

It also matters if he keeps scoring and you wanna get him and he's 12m by then.

He also looked very angry when being subbed off and blanked the manager so that might lead him closer to being dropped

Even if benteke starts gw3, which is doubtful as pardew said he's not match fit, he'll get 60 mind max. Wait and get him in gw if you have to.

If you had the choice of dropping Kane or Vardy for Ibra, which would you drop?

  28. Piggs Boson

    Mourinho on pen takers

"I designate 3. Paul, Wayne and Zlatan. And sometimes I like the players to have the feeling 'It's for me' But Wayne and Paul, they told themselves: 'Zlatan, you are the first. So when a penalty comes, you are the first option. If you don't want to take for some reason then we are here, but you are the man.' So between them, they made a decision "

So Rooney and Pogba conceded pens to the God of Manchester by choice.

I wonder if there has ever been a time when Zlatan has not wanted to take a penalty

Ha. It could not have ended in any other way but it's good to see that Roo will step aside for the benefit for the team.

In his youth playing for the national team Zlatan once just grabbed the ball and took it. It was Källström who were on pens.
That was not popular and no one celebrated the goal with Zlatan and afterwards he appologised.
