The Stock Check – Gameweek 10 – Sunday

A Belgian duo light up Sunday’s pair of fixtures as Romelu Lukaku grabs his customary goal against West Ham, before Eden Hazard nets for the third successive Gameweek as Chelsea see off Southampton at St Mary’s.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
There is no doubt that Chelsea’s move to 3-4-3 has handed Hazard the freedom to flourish.

Afforded licence to drift centrally when the Blues are in possession, the revived Belgian scored for the third consecutive league outing, bagging a goal and an assist in the 2-0 triumph.

After peaking at 10.3 in Gameweek 5, he has dropped to 9.8 in recent weeks, yet an explosive return to form – having notched against Leicester City and Manchester United – could now trigger a transfer scramble.

Sunday’s 14-point haul was Hazard’s highest of the season and takes him to just seven points off the top of the FPL midfield standings.

Romelu Lukaku
Second only to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho for acquisitions ahead of Gameweek 10, Lukaku was also the most-captained player by the top 100 FPL managers.

The Everton striker justified that show of faith with a goal and assist against West Ham and is now the top scoring FPL forward.

His run of consistent displays under Ronald Koeman shows no sign of abating – Lukaku has served up points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Chelsea.

Diego Costa
A superb second-half strike at St Mary’s maintained a remarkable run that has harvested FPL points in eight of Costa’s first 10 Gameweeks.

Yet again he kept out of trouble and remains on four yellows – impressively, Costa has been booked in just one of the last six league matches.

Although there’s been a recent clamour for 3-5-2 due to the number of high-scoring midfielders, the Costa, Lukaku and Sergio Aguero front line is becoming increasingly appealing for those prepared to invest big funds up top.

In saying that, Hazard is now only one point behind Costa and 0.5 cheaper.

Yannick Bolasie
After finding the net against Burnley in Gameweek 10, Bolasie is another player to shed his erratic form under Koeman.

An assist for Lukaku’s opener means he has now produced points in five of the previous seven Gameweeks.

Arguably the only guaranteed starter in the Everton attacking midfield three, his assist was the fourth of the season – already bettering last term’s tally of three while at Palace.

For those already holding Lukaku, though, Everton’s upcoming schedule – which hands them encounters with Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester United in the next four – may well deter a double-up.

Victor Moses
Handed a fourth straight start as a right wing-back by Antonio Conte, the Chelsea midfielder provided the assist for Hazard’s opener.

Moses was also amongst the goals in the Gameweek 8 win over Leicester City and seems to have cemented a regular role in the Blues’ 3-4-3 formation.

Priced at just 5.5 in FPL, the Nigerian international offered a decent goal threat throughout Sunday’s clash and, having convinced Conte of his worth, may yet emerge as a viable budget midfield option.

Cesar Azpilicueta & Marcos Alonso
It’s four clean sheets in as many matches for the Blues since the change of tactics.

Again, the Spanish defender’s suitability to the bonus points system prevailed and helped him to a pair of additional points at St Mary’s.

Impressively, Azpilicueta has been awarded bonus points in six of the first 10 Gameweeks and has collected at least one extra point on the five occasions that his side has registered a shut-out.

Sitting in 11% of FPL sides, he’s now climbed to joint-fourth in the defender rankings, level with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin on 45 points.

Even so, with John Terry looming as a factor on the bench and Kurt Zouma soon to return from injury, it’s not yet clear if Conte will keep faith with his current back-three in the mid-term. Marcos Alonso, at left wing-back, therefore appears to offer a more secure option.

Ross Barkley
Barkley nudged back onto the radar with a finely taken volley for the Toffees’ second.

Unlike his fellow midfielder Bolasie, this was Barkley’s first attacking returns since Gameweek 2, when he earned an assist away to West Brom.

Having dropped to the bench as recently as Gameweek 8, Barkley is unlikely to clamber ahead of Bolasie for those eyeing up the Everton midfield. A price tag of 7.2 to the former Eagles winger’s 6.0 means that Barkley remains peripheral in our thoughts for now.

In Decline

Phil Jagielka
The Everton skipper went into Sunday’s match as their top scoring defender, having started all nine of the opening fixtures.

Dropped to the bench as Ramiro Funes Mori came in alongside Ashley Williams, Jagielka’s absence coincided with the Toffees’ first clean sheet in six Gameweeks.

Funes Mori earned a single bonus point to return seven points and stake a claim for regular inclusion, though the upcoming schedule hardly appears conducive to clean sheets.

Winston Reid
The West Ham skipper toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth yellow card of the season.

Reid had racked up 29 points in the previous three Gameweeks but now sits out the Gameweek 11 home clash with Stoke.

With Spurs, United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the subsequent four, clean sheets may well be in short supply for Slaven Bilic’s side.

I see a lot of doubts between Stones and Morgan... (same for me)

    Anybody insight in stats?

What are the pros / cons?

Morgan has the fixtures and at home Leicester have kept it pretty tight. Stones plays for a side which can't defend unless they're playing a Tony Pulis 5-5-0 formation.

Morgan the choice for me, although there's no point making the move until after the CL games.

    Jaku/Pickford
    Stones Walker Pieters Mustafi Amat
    Walcot Mane Hazard Bolasie Capoue
    Rashford Kun Lukaku

    2 FT.

Keep both and change keeper + defender?

Really not sure how to proceed. 2FT, 1.1 itb:

    Foster Pickford
    Walker Holebas McAuley Friend Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Son Redmond Whelan
    Aguero Costa Benteke

    Any clues?

Obviously Son needs go, but I don't want Coutinho yet so near to int. break.

The Chelsea defence is much more reliable than Stoke defence. You might get lucky with Pieters, but he can blank too in every game. So the the question is wil Sanchez outscore Hazard and Alonso/Azpi?

Any concern to my team here :

      Heaton
      Kosc Holebas Smith
      Sanchez Coutinho Firmino Allen
      Aguero Costa Lukaku
      (Jakupovic Fletcher Kingsley Lenihan)

Wondering if i could upgrade my def and playing substitution strategy in defending
      A) Kosc + Kingsley -> Fuchs + Lovren
      B) Kosc + Kingsley -> Clyne + Pieters
      C) Any other ?
      D) Let it go with current team

        Morning all.

Kinda thinking I want to get rid of Mustafi ahead of next week, really hasnt worked out for me!

Thinking of doing a Saints def in, both for Hull and their awesome run of fixtures

        First xi, 0.3itb, 1ft;
        Pickford
        Mustafi Pieters Walker
        Sanchez Lallana Firmino Allen
        Costa Kun Kaku

        Would you;
        A) get big VVD for goal threat
        B) get Bertrand for assist potential
        C) hold, play Mustafi+Walker in NLD and have 2fts are internationals

Thanks guys! Obviously if there's an injury to my stoke guys tonight the plan changes...

Hey Individual, think VVD is the way to go. I have Valencia, and think VVD will be his replacement. Good goal threat and Saints are pretty solid. Lots of talk of Fuchs, but the have CL and not sure how defensive they are yet.

Hey Gideon! Hope you had a good weekend!

Yeah I do like the look of Leicester but as you say there's too many question marks. Captain Morgan is the man I'd draft in from their defence, but I think they'll be too knackered from ucl to be good in the Prem this year. VVD has good fixtures til February! Just insane.

Kinda want Austin too but I have Costa Kun Kaku front line and all have kept scoring and in Costa's case not getting booked, so I have to leave those guys for now haha

Thanks! I'm 50/50 on VVD vs. rolling FT.

Good weekend cheers. 72 with Allen and Pieters to go.

Saints do have great fixtures after they're next three, but unlikely to keep it clean against Pool and Everton. They'd be a long haul choice starting with a great fixture this weekend. If VVD gets a haul there he'll be in for a price rise over IB.

I'm trying to figure out how to get Hazard in to the team before I'm priced out. Only way to do it is drop Kos, Sterling and Valencia (who's a broken man anyway so that's an easy decision) - that would leave me with Hazard, VVD and maybe Mee or Holebas.

Nice, I'm on 75 with the same two!

That's basically it, I hate making defensive transfers on their own, has to be for the long haul. I'm very tempted to leave it and get the 2ft, though I'm very worried about missing out on Hull pts... I have Kun Costa and Kaku and would've removed one for Austin, but I can't fit him in yet as all three are firing. Ugh.

Not sure yet on a rush on Hazard mate. I'd be tempted to give it one more week and then size it up aftter internationals!

Yeah I know, but both those games are home at least. And if you check out the fixtures from that point, you can just leave him in for a long time hehe

I tend to agree with the theories that say you should treat defence as a unit, with minimal transfers in/out. Kinda looking for a "fire and forget" option to replace a broken part seemingly in Mustafi. But I'll think more this week 🙂

Looks like being a -4 this week boys:

Son + Ibra -> Haz + 9.5m forward but whom?

Also have Lallana but you can't win them all.

There are no good forwards in the 9.5 range at the moment.

If you can scrounge up some extra cash for Lukaku and if you don't have him - do it, though at this point it might be too late.

I would suggest getting Costa for Ibra (again, if you don't have him).

Might as well keep Ibra for SWA.

Hopefully he finally converts those ridiculous amounts of chances and if he does could get some cash back on him that was lost.

Worse case scenario he blanks again and you hammer that nail in the coffin the following gw.

I see a lot of people having Sanchez, Firmino and Couthino. Won't they get rested after International Breaks because of the travel? They might give you good points some weeks but is it worth the bad weeks especially after IB? Surely alternative players like Ozil, Lallana, Mane etc. would be rotated less (Although Mane does have ACON in Jan). I'm not bagging people but just curious as to what other people think of this.

Same here. It seems that all the Pool mids have their opportunity to score points. I have Lallana and Mane instead of Firm and Couthino and it has served me pretty well atm.

I don't think any of those three were rested after the IB last time so, not a big worry for me.

Can't see Sanchez getting benched again as, Arsenal looked very poor when he was last time.

Coutinho a bit of a worry but, Firmino has played every game apart from the one where he was vaguely injured (if my memory is correct). Also, Liverpool have fewer games then the other top teams so, hopefully there players should be okay fitness wise!

I'd also, like to add that I can't see Klopp resting both Coutinho and Firmino. Without them you lose a lot of creativity and secondly I don't think Liverpool have other options.

Out of interest, if both Coutinho and Firmino were dropped after the international break what do you think the Liverpool line-up would be?

            Sánchez Mané Walcott Shaqiri Fletcher

            Agüero Lukaku Deeney

Should my next move(s) look to get Hazard, Coutinho, Firmino or Costa?

Can you see a way to get one or two of these players using the fewest transfers?

Hmm, can you do Walcott out for one of the Liverpool mids? The Chelsea duo you can probably get away with not owning - Costa is on 4yc anyway, and I think if you have Sanchez, Lukaku and Kun you'll struggle to fit Haz/Diego in anyhow with your current team setup.

Maybe just get a Liverpool player in and watch n wait for the rest...

I have made 2 transfers this week so sitting on a -4 up to now. Did Heaton and Austin in for Rashford and Foster.

I still have Son in my side, who is dropping rapidly, really unsure on what 4th mid to have. Currently have Sanchez, Firmino, Coutinho, Son and Allen.

Walcott has now dropped so could get him in for 8m, not sure I want to double up on both Liverpool and Arsenal though.

Tough choice this 4th mid lark!

I have Sanchez, Wally, Cout and Lallana. I'd much rather have Firmino but I don't have great TV.

            Morning guys, very happy with how this week has gone, returns from every player so far...but I need some advice going forwards;

            Heaton - Foster
            Shaw - Stones - Holebas - Friend - Amat
            Sanchez - Firmino - Bolasie - Allen - Capoue
            Aguero - Lukaku - Costa

            2ft 0.0

Ideally I'd like to boost my defensive options, with a Spurs, Arsenal, or Saints option, but I don't see a way of freeing up enough funds without losing one of my big three forwards, who are all currently performing well, with no stand out cheaper options.

Slight concern about Bolasie, and Lukaku double up, although again they are doing well currently.

Maybe worth going Foster to Pickford (and playing Heaton every week) and doing Capoue to a 4.4m option and then using the funds to upgrade a defender next week?

I have the exact funds for Walcott + Deeney > Coutinho + Austin

            a) Do it this week (-8)

            b) Do it next week and hope for no price rise/fall (-4)

            c) Leave it

I would personally just do Deeney to Austin

Leave it for now. Reconsider next week. Walcott and Deeney could run amock for all you know.
