Stock Check – Gameweek 12 – Monday

An emphatic display by West Brom urges Fantasy managers re-assess the potential of a pair of their attacking assets while basking in the comfort of a belated clean sheet. Here’s the Stock Check following Gameweek 12’s concluding fixture…

Matt Phillips
Fantasy managers started the evening lamenting the absence of Nacer Chadli through injury but, on the evidence of recent performances, Phillip’s could well supersede him as the key target in the West Brom midfield.

His goal and assist returns this evening earned him back-to-back double figure returns and took him to two goals and four assists in his last seven Premier League starts.

Priced at 5.1 to Chadli’s 6.4, the former QPR winger looks to have the advantage as a fourth/fifth midfield option. Indeed, even when fit, Chadli’s starting role now looks to be a puzzle given West Brom’s current form.

Salomon Rondon
The Venezuelan has produced a string of impressive performances without returns as the Baggies’ lone striker but, tonight’s goal and assist brought his drought to an end.

Priced at 6.5, the Baggies frontman looks an option in this form, although on Chadli’s return, he will likely relinquish spot-kick duties which dents his appeal – along with the potential offered by Phillips.

Nonetheless, with Hull City, Watford and Swansea City in his next four Gameweeks, Rondon may tempt some short-term investors seeking a differential.

The West Brom Defence
With a combined ownership of 50%, many FPL managers benefited from a first Baggies clean sheet since Gameweek 3.

That’s a surprising statistic given the emphasis on defence by Tony Pulis. Sitting back and allowing Burnley to come onto them, tonight’s approach was typical of a West Brom side who prioritise defensive stability.

Gareth McAuley remains our weapon of choice – a menacing presence at set-pieces that warrants the extra outlay for the aforementioned fixtures. But Chris Brunt demands to be monitored and, once we can be sure of his prolonged starting role, he arguably presents even greater potential for attacking returns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Best move here?

    A) Collins -> Nyom
    B) Collins & Stones -> Brunt & Pieters
    C) Collins & Stones -> Nyom & Cedric

    Bank 0.1m, 2FT

    Cech
    Clyne, Stones, Amat
    Sanchez, Firmino, Coutinho, Walcott
    Aguero, Defoe, Austin

    Pickford, Capoue, Kone, Collins

Yeah I'm toying with Cech out shortly, but 2 decent home games in the next 3 so think Collins out is the priority

Disagree. Freeing up a large chunk of funds at GK will allow you to shop in a more reasonable bracket for Collins replacement. Realistically Kone / Amat / 4.4 def not to mention Stones in there is ridiculously bad. Gotta get someone better than that i.e. more expensive and trustworthy for Collins.

Save but Collins needs to go. But for a sure starter. Nyom may lose his place and you would have him Kone and Amat to waste another FT or take a hit again.

Phillips and Capoue rotate perfectly home/away and do quite well for good/tough fixtures. Only GW 19 fixtures a bit difficult. I just need out of the Gundogan conundrum and I'd like to utilize Capoue without necessarily relying on him outright week in and week out. Both look nailed and on form. Both teams doing well and some decent fixtures in there. This seems a fix.

Anyone else considering this as a 4th and 5th mid rotation?

Any pitfalls besides spending a bit on a 5th and rotation headache?

He is hog the points, I watched the highlights, the first goal the Phillips got yesterday, Chadli when playing would be in that position, and the goal which Fletcher Scored, again Chadli would be in that position.

Even for Tottenham he used to hog points.

Are you playing a 3-5-2? If Yes,I don't think this formation will work for much longer, strategize so that you can revert to 3-4-3

there are many good replacements, but you need to first decides which players you want to let go

All the Walcott love seem to be gone. I am not too sure. He has blanked in 3 but I would now give up on him that quick - he represents really good value. The fact that their teams rank 1 and 2 on seaso ticket over next 8-10 weeks does not make the decision any easier.

For a team with Kun it is really good. You sure on Saints double up in attack? Any other option over Redmond?

I am 0.4 short of getting Siggy. If i had the cash he would be my first choice.

So little jumps out in the 6.8 or below range. I think Lanzini / Antonio could be a good punt from 17 onwards but thats a while away.

    DZ your thoughts please

Is getting a mid-striker OOP actually not that great an idea? The reason why we go for it is that it gives an extra point for every goal scored. But considering that a mid's goal is valued 6 points less in the BAPS system, that could result in a loss of Bonus points compared to a striker in same team who scored a goal. If ur guy scores and assists a lot in the game, his bonus will be guaranteed. But in teams where the output is shared between players, i think it would be a better idea to choose the striker over the OOP midfielder, if ur looking purely on the points return.
For a def playing as OOP mid, this isn't much of an issue since the 3 points gained via a CS will offset bonuses. But if its a team which doesn't keep many CS, this is valid even there

I knew someone would pick up on the Brom game. I will not pass judgment based on 1 game. I'll see if I can look further into this and find other proof. Cheers

I'd rather the extra point for a goal and chance of a CS vs less bps for a goal.

I have looked at this myself but Torresmagic makes a point which happens all too often. Your theory works more if there are not too many goals I think.

With the suspension of Allen, and Gündogan being rested, is it time to make a short-term move? With somewhat of a fixture shift taking place GW16, who are some 5th mids worth punting on for the next 3 weeks?

    My shortlist consists of:
Zaha - (swa, SOU, hul) - Last 4 games, 4 assists, 2 baps
Phillips - (hul, WAT, che) - Last 2 games, 2 goals, 2 asisst, 6 baps
Pereyra - (STO, wba, EVE) - Last 3 games, 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 baps
    Snodgrass - (WBA, mid, CRY) - Last 2 games - 1 goals, 1 assist, 3 baps

Who would you pick? Or are there any other hidden gems out there worth mentioning..

Zaha seems a tad expensive for a 5th mid, but he's really good.
      Philips as well

Guaranteed 15 points or more from 3 slots every gameweek really excited me! I would personally triple up, but I have Clyne. Difficult to ship him out, get a liv asset then. If you have the opportunity, go for it! Bound to give you returns

Decent for me in spite of the blanks from all 3 strikers.

Also, matched VS_10 as the highest margin to beat the Scout Picks by my calculations, so waiting on confirmation of that and what this means for the 100 pound prize. 😀

    Morning all.

I've got two free transfers and 0.3 ITB.

    Cech Pickford
    Lovren Morgan Holebas Pieters Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Coutinho Shaqiri Carrick
    Kun Lukaku Deeney

    A) Shaqiri & Lukaku > Snodgrass & Costa
    B) Shaqiri & Lukaku > Zaha & Kane
    C) Shaqiri & Lukaku > Siggy & Giroud
    D) Kun & Lukaku > Kane & Costa

Which one would seem to make most sense to you?

Tough one. A with Vert downgrade if you have a good defence. If you can spare 4.9, Cedric is ideal.

Are you already planning a Kun to Kane move in GW 14? If yes, and you are not captaining Kun this week then go for it. Long term Kane + Coutinho -4 >> Kun + Redmond.

          Else, Redmond to Siggy.

Hello 🙂 ... need some advice on the next step please:

    Foster
    Stones McAuley Williams Walker
    Coutinho Hazard Gundogan Firmino
    Aguero Costa

    Heaton Anichebe Amat Allen

    2.0m ITB

    ???

My thoughts are Williams needs to go, and free up some cash to replace Allen or Gundogan with Arsenal mid??

    Thanks

A few have your defensive structure and I am not convinced with:
Stones rotation, clean sheets and position.
      Williams form and fixtures.
Walker price and possible price fall.

look at Walker/ Cedric and gundo/Chadli maybe
