Stock Check – Gameweek 12 – Monday

An emphatic display by West Brom urges Fantasy managers re-assess the potential of a pair of their attacking assets while basking in the comfort of a belated clean sheet. Here’s the Stock Check following Gameweek 12’s concluding fixture…

Matt Phillips
Fantasy managers started the evening lamenting the absence of Nacer Chadli through injury but, on the evidence of recent performances, Phillip’s could well supersede him as the key target in the West Brom midfield.

His goal and assist returns this evening earned him back-to-back double figure returns and took him to two goals and four assists in his last seven Premier League starts.

Priced at 5.1 to Chadli’s 6.4, the former QPR winger looks to have the advantage as a fourth/fifth midfield option. Indeed, even when fit, Chadli’s starting role now looks to be a puzzle given West Brom’s current form.

Salomon Rondon
The Venezuelan has produced a string of impressive performances without returns as the Baggies’ lone striker but, tonight’s goal and assist brought his drought to an end.

Priced at 6.5, the Baggies frontman looks an option in this form, although on Chadli’s return, he will likely relinquish spot-kick duties which dents his appeal – along with the potential offered by Phillips.

Nonetheless, with Hull City, Watford and Swansea City in his next four Gameweeks, Rondon may tempt some short-term investors seeking a differential.

The West Brom Defence
With a combined ownership of 50%, many FPL managers benefited from a first Baggies clean sheet since Gameweek 3.

That’s a surprising statistic given the emphasis on defence by Tony Pulis. Sitting back and allowing Burnley to come onto them, tonight’s approach was typical of a West Brom side who prioritise defensive stability.

Gareth McAuley remains our weapon of choice – a menacing presence at set-pieces that warrants the extra outlay for the aforementioned fixtures. But Chris Brunt demands to be monitored and, once we can be sure of his prolonged starting role, he arguably presents even greater potential for attacking returns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Obviously you ended up with that lot due to quality forwards.

I would do Kun Ibra and Son Kdb if you can afford.
      Otherwise Kaku Austin Son Cout.

Just ideas. Maybe even takea hit.

I was going to do this exact trade but some wise poster explained that the goals scored by Fletcher & Phillips were positionally the spots where Chadli would occupy so it put me off. This means that when Chadli is back, Phillips will be pushed deeper.

Yeah Holebas does take some set pieces, I presume if Mazzarri sticks to the 3-5-2 system both Holebas and Janmaat take the two wing back spots, basically looking for the most stable option.

Yes there could be value there.

But I would be wary of who to choose at this stage. Holebas and Zuniga are fighting for one spot, and Janmaat could always be moved back to centre back (as he played against Liverpool), to accommodate Amrabat at RWB when Isaac Success is fit. Watford played more a 3-4-3 at the weekend, as opposed to a 3-5-2, which is a system tailor made for Success as a wide forward.

So, I would favour Holebas at this moment, as I feel he is far more likely to play than Zuniga. Janmaat is a good choice at this moment, but beware when Success returns

          Great reply!

          What about Prodl? Decent option?

          1. Freddie Cutecat

            7 years, 5 months ago

            He has played well recently.

But I am so wary of Watford centre backs at this moment. There are six realistic options for three spots Prodl/Cathcart/Kaboul/Britos along with Kabasele who is a Belgian international, and the aforementioned Janmaat who has played at RCB in the Azpilicueta role (so to speak).

So picking who will start could be a challenge. I think at this moment, Prodl is most nailed for a CB position.

Personally, I own Holebas- but Watford I feel is still a bit of a work in progress.

Thanks for that, so Holebas' LWB spot probably more secure. If Janmaat is moved to fit in Amrabat at RWB at any stage, Janmaat moves to CB or potentially the bench. Does sound like Holebas is the safer option.

          1. Freddie Cutecat
            • 7 Years
            7 years, 5 months ago

            Yes, those are my thoughts.

But Janmaat has already struck up an amazing relationship with Amrabat, as has been seen in the last two games- so I feel both are fairly secure at this moment. I think Janmaat has a high chance of being a favourite for Mazzarri- but my concern is that he could potentially be used as a RCB when Isaac Success returns, limiting his attacking returns.

I suppose it will depend on how attacking Mazzarri wants to be, but I feel now that Pereyra has performed well in a wide role, the 3-4-3 may be the way forward and Success could prove to be a real asset in that formation on the other side- which would mean probably either benching Amrabat (harsh at this moment as he has been one of Watford's better players), or moving Janmaat to RCB (perhaps more likely at this moment).

Just my two cents, famous last words!

      Thoughts on this plan?

      GW 13 - Save FT.
      GW 14 - Hojbjerg+Aguero+Wilson to Snodgrass+Kane+Defoe (-4)
GW 15 - Mata to Sigurdsson

      Current team
      Marshall Pickford
      Koscielny Clyne Holebas Amat McAuley
      Sanchez Firmino Mata Hazard Hojbjerg
      Aguero Wilson Austin

      Nothing in the bank. 1FT.

Solid plan. Although Mata may be one to keep over Christmas for the fixtures.

Already have Kun, but for how much longer Im not sure. Could also do Luk to Austin and that would give me a front 3 of Kun Austin Defoe.

Could do Kun to Kane in 2 weeks time

I think you need Costa. Only worry is tough next two plus 4 YC. Kane v Chelsea next is hardly easy and Giroud may not play.

        On balance I'd get Costa.

I hear ya Bojak but every part of me is saying avoid Costa but his points tally says it all really. But in saying that Kane looks like a tasty option if I was to drop Kun.

costa giroud austin good fixtures ahead which free some funds for better mids.

I'm not saying that this will happen but the last time I got rid of my third striker because he was playing Arsenal next, he went on to get three consecutive hauls (Yes Defoe I still hate you). I have Wilson myself and I'm also frustrated but have bigger fish to fry.

Not sure what to do. Had Costa since GW1 but switched him for Hazard last week and almost instantly regretted it.

      Do I ...

      A) Take my medicine and a hit and lose out on £0.5m profit to buy him back quickly and rectify my mistake.

      B) Stick with Hazard.

Obviously yellow cards and away form is a factor here.

      A. Redmond and Lukaku to Coutinho and Austin (-4),

Do you think the more hands on you are with your team the worse you can make it?

I feel like i'm buying players a week to late every time. I was playing Pickford every week then I benched him for Heaton. I bought Hazard after his blitz and then nothing. I stick with Sánchez and nothing. Bought Shaqiri then he gets injured so I switch to Allen who stops scoring and gets suspended. I convince myself Costa will get booked and hold off buying. And I benched Fletcher 😆

      Rank gone from 9k > 100k
Such a frustrating game when you try to improve your team and it's getting worse.

A question for those who were watching Everton game: How was Lukaku doing?

I plan to do Kaku --> Ibra. Have a feeling that Ibra could be a huge this gw, later maybe sell him for Costa, depending on performance.

Sold Kun for Kane so have free cash. Not from stupidity, just got aick of this seasons red arrows and need some big diferentials to make game more interesting. 🙂

      Would you do it?

P.S. Lukaku has aome dificult games on the horizon, and Saints defence is no peace of cake either.

      Thoughts?

      A) Allen to Phillips
      B) Vert to 4.9 and Rashford to Defoe -4
      C) Rashford to Anichebe
      D) Suggestion!?!

      Foster
      Dawson, Amat, Bardsley
      Sanchez, Haz, Firminio, Cout
      Aguero, Austin, Rashford

      Jak, vert, Kone, Allen
