The Stock Check – Gameweek 33 – Sunday

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is benched for the first time this term as a pair of Man United differentials stake a claim for double Gameweek 34. Diego Costa disappoints again as the transfers out build, while Roberto Firmino’s climb up the FPL leaderboard continues.

On the Rise

Ander Herrera
With double Gameweek 34 just around the corner, the Spaniard picked the perfect time to deliver a season-high FPL haul thanks to a goal and assist in United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.

Herrera – who has started all but one of the league matches he has been available for since Gameweek 12 – also provided an assist away to Sunderland in the previous fixture, marking the first time this term he has produced consecutive returns.

With just three assists to his name prior to that Black Cats encounter, though, it’s fair to say that Herrera has been far from prolific.

Clearly, he remains a gamble but, at just 6.3 and owned by less than 1% of managers, could be worth a flutter as United prepare to face Burnley and Man City next time out.

Marcus Rashford
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic shifted to the bench, the United youngster’s pace through the middle proved the undoing of Chelsea’s defence as he bagged an early opener against the league leaders.

After failing to score since Gameweek 6, Rashford has now notched in back-to-back league outings, having also found the net against Sunderland last time out.

While it seems unlikely that Rashford will retain a central role at the expense of Ibrahimovic, it’s worth noting that he has now started four of United’s last five league fixtures ahead of the double.

Like Herrera, he would be a somewhat risky selection, yet a 6.5 price tag may appeal as a cheap third forward if you’re willing to roll the dice.

Roberto Firmino
Overlooked by the recent clamour for the services of team-mate Philippe Coutinho, Firmino climbed to fifth in the FPL midfield standings by firing the only goal of Liverpool’s 1-0 win at West Brom.

Shrugging off his manager’s suggestions of tiredness, Firmino – along with Coutinho – returned to the starting XI after being utilised off the bench at Stoke City last week.

The former Hoffenheim man has now registered points in each of his last six league outings, serving up three goals and four assists over that stretch to emerge as the Reds’ top scoring FPL asset.

There’s no doubt that the lack of a double Gameweek clearly limits Liverpool’s appeal. Yet owners who have already played their second wildcard may well decide to hold, given his form and fixtures to follow – up next, clashes against Crystal Palace, Watford, Southampton, West Ham and Middlesbrough hand Firmino the chance to maintain his most consistent run of the season.

In Decline

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
In light of his manager’s conflicting comments, there still remains some doubt as to why the veteran was named on the bench today.

In the build-up to the match, we had Ibrahimovic admitting he was tired during Thursday’s Europa League clash with Anderlecht.

After announcing his teamsheet, Mourinho then backed that up by saying Ibrahimovic was named on the bench as he was “tired, very tired”.

However, the United manager’s post-match comments put a different slant on the situation ahead of double Gameweek 34.

Mourinho indicated he had copied the same tactics used against Chelsea in a recent FA Cup fixture – a match that Ibrahimovic was suspended for. To add a further twist, he then went back on his pre-match words by saying:

“Maybe we didn’t rest. Maybe we just chose the team that we thought was the best team.”

If it was no more than tactics, that Mourinho simply looked for Rashford’s speed to trouble the Blues’ back-three, then today’s teamsheet may ultimately prove no bad news for Ibrahimovic’s owners ahead of the double, considering he was afforded just eight minutes.

Regardless, it would be remiss not to include him in this section, if only to acknowledge that this was the first time he failed to start a league match that he was available for since joining the club.

Certainly, today’s events haven’t deterred would-be investors from making the leap – Ibrahimovic is the number one transfer target ahead of United’s double, with over 23,000 new owners since yesterday.

Ahead of those two fixtures – against Burnley and Man City – it’s the Turf Moor trip that remains the potential rotation hotspot for United’s assets. While Rashford’s performance would have demonstrated that Mourinho could possibly have the option of resting Ibrahimovic before the derby clash, the fact that United are now still very much in touch with the top four perhaps reduces that risk.

Diego Costa
The out-of-sorts Chelsea striker shipped more than 121,000 FPL owners heading into Gameweek 33 – more than any player.

This afternoon’s blank against United extended Costa’s wretched run to just two goals in his last ten league appearances, as a third yellow card in five underlined his frustration and left the Spain international’s 31.5% owners with a single FPL point for their troubles.

With Harry Kane looking irresistible and double Gameweek 34 forwards on the agenda, Costa – with just three shots on target in his last four outings – is set for significant sales once again as we freshen up our three-man frontlines.

Indeed, the exodus has continued at pace since yesterday – he is again the most transferred out forward, jettisoned by a further 14,000+ former owners.

Gareth McAuley
Sold by more than 44,000 FPL managers last week, the Irishman remains subject to a major exodus due to the Baggies’ upcoming blank Gameweek 34.

The number one transferred out defender since yesterday’s deadline by some distance, McAuley – owned by over 32% – has already earned over 9,000 sales.

Clearly, there’s a growing worry that, with their safety secured, Tony Pulis’ side are already on the beach – they have managed just one clean sheet in nine and scored in only one of their previous seven.

Furthermore, McAuley’s goal threat has all but evaporated – the Irishman has failed to register a single attempt in his last seven league outings.

Granted, he did, nonetheless, play from start to finish after failing to last 60 minutes in the previous two fixtures.

Yet with a far from favourable double Gameweek 37 against Chelsea and Man City to follow, the Baggies defender could now play a peripheral part in our thinking from this point onwards.

Hard to sell Kun for Ibra on form. Sterling is an issue. You could punt on Sterling to Mkhi/Herrera/Pogba for the dgw or else just get in Son/Eriksen.

      Heaton > Valdes?
      Alonso > Bailly?
      Siggy > Townsend?
      Kun > Ibra?

Lots of options, what's your gut telling you?

I also have Sterling and he is the one I may be getting rid of this week

Really tempted to go without Ibra but his ownership and Captaincy worries me. I'm 100 points clear in ML so I might go without and maybe punt on Man U mid for a couple of weeks. Ibra has Swansea after the double which also adds to his appeal.

Valdez will be coming in for either Heaton or Jaku but Sterling needs to go. I might even have a crack at Coutinho. Some nice fixtures coming up. I just don't want to have DGW blinkers on.

If you are that far ahead let others take the risks

RE Sterling, look at City's run of fixtures from 36

I'm thinking of Sterling > Pogba for the DGW and then switching to Sane. I just wish we knew what was up with the Pep/Sterling situation as he is a great source of points when he plays.

It's hard isn't it. Last week was Sterlings last chance but he gets 90 mins and two assists. Pogba could be a bit of a laugh and will go hard v Man City.

So, Ibra or not to Ibra?

I say go Ibra, but I already have him since wildcard a couple of weeks ago. So that's easy for me. The clincher is the good home game in 35 too, against SWA he'll be a strong captaincy candidate too.

Then again, City have Boro away! Aguero could make hay!

Have to go with your gut...

im in same boat with sterling. two assists, played almost as cf some of the game, then pep. same with ibra. i have gone negredo kane kaku. i did ibra to kaku for burnley but captained kane. he could of had four goals. i think im doing sterling to townsend for dgw, maybe pogba now that you brought it up. i think ill go kaku to ibra, as i think ibra will play 2 games. i cant see ibra sitting out of too many games otherwise he would explode. im 80 points in front in ml... im doing ibra to kun after 35.

Do you still have your WC? If so can you afford Holgate -> a Boro defender? If not I think AOA makes sense given your defence. Given the fixtures, the DGW, Spurs' form and their title push, I'd rather lose Kaku than Eriksen myself, so A for me.

WC intact. Not too keen on double boro though. Holgate appears nailed on and plays West Ham so not sure on shipping him out.
Though I'll probably not want Kaku after gw 34, I'm a little hesitant on selling him before the West Ham game.

Would you suggest saving? Personally I'm not too keen on Palace attack. Don't see more than 2 goals over the 2 games for them and am fairly satisfied with my team till GW 36 WC.
Any other way of getting in Palace attack?

Best move here lads? Avoiding MID defenders as don't have a WC & their fixtures are awful after GW34.

    A) Save FT
    B) Brunt -> PVA
    C) Grant -> Hennessey

    Jaku
    Valencia, Bavies, Robertson
    Sanchez, Eriksen, Son*, Zaha
    Lukaku, Ibra, Benteke

    Grant, King*, Stones, Brunt
    Bank 0.0m, 1FT, no WC

    * yet to decide who to bench

Can't afford unless I take a -4. Would consider if I had a WC still, but as I don't I'm not sure I'd play him again after this week, so feels a bit of a waste. I'd be ok playing Hennessey in 34, 35 & 37

Probably right, but it's still a DGW and they have decent fixtures in 35 & 37, and PVA offers a considerable goal threat. Can't see much from Brunt in the run in given WBA's form and fixtures. That being said, I guess my defence is ok this week, so perhaps holding makes the most sense.

I'd save. B if pushed. Given West Brom's form, I don't see Brunt getting very many points. PvA always has a goal or two in him. Also, Palace are certainly trying to tighten things at the back.

Cheers. My thinking also re PVA and Brunt. Who would you bench this week if getting PVA? Robertson (WAT) given I have Jaku? Also, who would you bench in attack?....nightmare!

          • 8 Years

Robertson I guess. Wouldn't want double Hull defence. In attack, it's basically a coin toss between Son and King, though I might bench Son since Palace at home should be tighter than Boro away.

Why is everyone rushing to get Palace players in? Their DGW isn't exactly an easy pair of fixtures, and I'm betting that many SGW players will outscore the likes of Zaha and Benteke in GW34

And as my response above, no cleanies for their defense; pool may give up a goal or two tbf

Those who BB in 37 and still have TC available, when are u planning to use it?

Anyone tempted to TC Aguero Sanchez or Hazard in 37? Great fixture. But then I have to sacrifice BB in other week.

You could play it in GW36 if you ain't using wildcard then. If the league isn't over by 37, a Chelsea or spurs player can be TC with success in GW38 for the last match

Let's imagine that arsenal win 4-0 today with goals and assist from Sanchez. What would you do then? Wreck your team to fund Sanchez? Or pretend it didn't happen and let him be?

I still own him and cannot see them scoring 4. Maybe nick one... Maybe. And I can see it being by Özil or Giroud or some other annoying inconsistent player.

Sanchez has 4 games in 2 gameweeks from 36, MUN sou sto SUN

Question is do you bother to dump him for the next two gameweeks and get back, if on a wildcard I'd say that would be a good strategy, but again it depends who for. LEI in 34 is a good fixture too

I will keep him no matter what except if he gets injured, but that guy is a machine and shakes off a ankle injury while others are gone for months so i doubt that will happen 🙂

GW38 is the lottery round. Teams with nothing to lose/play for give squad players a game.

There's been a lot of talk about the MUN schedule in April but check out this possibility in May if they get to the semis

    04 - semi 1
    07 ars
    11 semi 2
    14 tot
    17 sot
    21 CPL
    24 - possible final
