Fantasy Football Book – Your Help Needed

Unless you’re one of the very few who follow me on Twitter, then you might not have heard that there’s going to be a Fantasy Football book.

It is, quite frankly, amazing that there isn’t one already – Fantasy grows hugely every year, with ever more players, pundits, podcasts and websites dedicated to Fantasy Premier League and a number of other games both established and new.

Penguin Random House, under the auspices of its sports imprint Yellow Jersey Press, will be the publisher and I have been handed the honour of writing it.

And it is an honour, albeit a daunting one.

The book will look at the history of the game and its future, its scope, appeal and success – particularly where Fantasy Premier League is concerned. But at its heart it will be a celebration of its players – the best and the rest, the first and the worst and everyone in between.

And that’s where you fine people come in.

I need as many stories as possible to make the book as entertaining, broad and human as it can be.

I need tales of triumph and despair, of good luck and bad, of obsession, madness and genius.

Big mini-league cash prizes for the winners, cruel and imaginative mini-league forfeits for the losers, the times that Fantasy has changed your life (maybe even saved it) for better or for worse, the range of professions (doctor, High Court judge, customer-facing adult entertainment executive) that live the Fantasy life…anything that is interesting, quirky and human is what I’m after.

So, not a lot to ask then.

But I couldn’t ask for a better community to seek help from. FFS regulars are fantastically knowledgeable, generous, smart, funny and snarky – often all at the same time. That is a great resource which needs tapping into and immortalising in print.

If you have any Fantasy stories to tell, or can think of anything I might be able to look into further, please mention it in the comments below.

You can also DM me on Twitter (@Davvawavva) and if you can be bothered to fill out a Fantasy Football questionnaire, or maybe have a story that you’d rather not talk about quite so publicly, you can email me at fantfootbook@gmail.com – anonymity can be guaranteed, if required.

Thanks for your time. I only hope I can do the game, and its players, justice.

Thoughts on this attack heavy team, for the start of the season:

    Foster (Elliot)
    Alonso, Blind, Trippier, (Mee, Mariappa)
    Eriksen, Coutinho, Herrera, Ritchie, (RLC)
    Kane, Lukaku, Rodriguez

0.5 in the bank. Looking at Rodriguez to Austin.

    Thanks in advance

If this actually happens, and it is plausible, and Aurier gets cleared to actually enter England and play there too, then that significantly undermines Valencia's appeal.

      Dear David,

Somehow I just read your article and thinks that I can contribute a part.

My overall rank was in top 200 for three times in the first four years of fantasy, also led the country league of Hong Kong while Hong Kong was ranked second in the world that year, so the biggest English newspaper called South China Morning Post has conducted a detailed interview with me. The published print-out has a long article about how I played fantasy, with a half page graphic teasing the wall street people (sort of fantasy soccer analytical skill will beat those guys, things like that)

If your book still need story and contents like this, I can try to find that hardcopy and scan it to you. (Ya I have moved a few times since then and need to take a look where do I put the newspaper cutting now).

How's the progress of the book? No matter you feel interested of my interview, do let me know the progress of your work.

      Best Regards,
      Kenneth

There are a couple of moments that stand out in fantasy football for me.

Zigic's triple gameweek...... and THAT Benait Assou Ekotto goal in the Spurs double gameweek whilst Bale and VDV did nothing. The increased stakes of double and triple gameweeks made them so much more rememberable.

The frenzy caused by Dempsey's hat trick in 2012 should definitely be included
